- birthplace: Vladivostok, Russia
- hometown: Vladivostok, Russia - Oga, Japan
- nationality: Russian-Japanese
- ethnicity: Asian (idk how Russians identify themselves so I just put Asian)
- background:
- Keita Plisetsky was born in Vladivostok and left stranded in the hospital when his mother decided she didn't want him. Luckily for him, two doctors, a married couple, there at the hospital decided to adopt him since the wife was unable to bear children. He was raised there by the Russian man and Japanese woman in Vladivostok until he was 6 years old when the family moved to Oga, Japan to be closer to his adoptive mother's parents. He lived a simple, happy childhood with his doting parents and his grandparents, who secretly disliked him greatly for not being his parents' child by blood. When Keita was 13 and preparing to enter middle school, tragedy struck. His parents both died in a plane crash on their way home from visiting Russia for business, leaving him in the care of his adoptive grandparents. Again, neither grandparent liked him. Deciding they didn't want him around, they signed him up and sent him off for the COSMOS program when he was 15, a year before he was to begin high school.
- Although Keita was upset his grandparents hated him enough to send him off to a completely different country, he was grateful they'd done so. It showed they actually paid some amount of attention to what he said. He'd shown interest in joining the program after his friend came rushing into his class one day gushing about the ad he had seen during his visit to Tokyo. Keita instantly fell in love with the idea of the COSMOS program. He was determined to convince his grandparents to let him go.
- (This is short and sucky but I'm pretty sure I covered what you asked for...I hope >.<)
- personality:
- If anyone could describe Keita Plisetsky in one word, they'd instantly say unfriendly. They say this because Keita is a relatively quiet boy who doesn't mind being alone. He feels more at home among books than among people, which clearly shows how much of a book nerd he is. He was most known in school for his wide vocabulary and short temper that could make you feel like the stupidest person alive if you decided to start a petty argument with him. Truthfully, Keita is a very friendly person and will gladly talk to anyone as long as they approach in the least annoying way possible. Despite being a generally friendly boy, he is unbelievably shy and really hates when he's the center of attention. Although shy, he turns into a completely different person whenever he's talking about something he's passionate about, energetic and expressive, full of smiles and giggles and bright eyes. When someone is daring enough to start an argument with him, it takes everything in his power to not shrivel up on the spot and hide from all of the witnessing eyes. He comes off as a placid, non-confrontational type of person but, in reality, he has a temper beneath his chin that can be so scarily calm that even his parents had learned not to piss him off.
- Keita, despite his bad temper and reserved ways, is naturally a parental person and will literally baby anyone who gives him the chance to. He is protective of his loved ones and will gladly give you a bruised eye or bloody nose if you mess with them. He has always been academically advanced and even graduated at the top of his class in middle school. He is philosophical and understanding, looking into every situation before coming to any conclusions which often causes his loved ones to flock to him for advice or comfort. Keita is anything but a simple boy but he believes otherwise, preferring to think of himself as a normal human being with a love for simplicity and cats. He is attractive in the most subtle of ways, which adds to the mystery that strangers crave to uncover. He's passionate about what he loves and, when he speaks, he makes you want to listen to his angelic voice forever, no matter how boring you think the current topic of interest is.
- (I stated it in his background but he joined the COSMOS program when he was 15 and about to start high school.)

- cadet life:
- Keita wasn't a particularly popular figure among the other cadets given he never bothered to interact with him and preferred to keep to himself. Many avoided him because of his tall stature and broadening shoulders brought on by a wonderful thing called puberty. Not to mention, he definitely did not look similar to them. His social life wasn't all that great although he did manage to speak with at least one or two other cadets before they could shrink away in fear of the Russian teenager and misjudge him. He went to high school during his cadet days and graduated at the top of his class, just as he'd done in middle school. During high school, he still didn't interact with many people primarily because of the language barrier. He only knew Russian and Japanese at the time so adjusting to and learning a new language was a big part of why he didn't speak much with other people. As soon as Keita arrived in Korea, he cut all ties to his only remaining family, his grandparents, before they could beat him to it. He knew they'd do so, so he figured he'd save them the hassle and do it for them. He wanted nothing to do with the two people who'd made his life a whirlpool of insults and insecurity. He believes they would've made it worse if they hadn't have sent him to the COSMOS program. Little did he know, they had tried contacting him given he was the only they had left of their daughter.

- why did they join the COSMOS program?:
- Keita joined the program because of two reasons. One, he loved the concept of the program. He heard about it and he had instantly wanted to be apart of it. At first, it was one of those silly childhood dreams. Two, it was a surefire way to quickly and efficiently put distance between him and his grandparents. Sure, at first this reason wasn't even a thought since his parents were alive when he first heard of it. But, when they died, he immediately began looking for ways to get away from his grandparents and the COSMOS program never failed to be his first choice.

- how did they react when they were told of the COSMOS launch?:
- Keita didn't know how to react. He didn't know if he was excited or appalled, surprised or indifferent. I guess you could he didn't react much on the outside but, on the inside, was a whirlpool of emotions towards the news.
- ⁘ CALL OF VALOR ⁘
- when they crashed landed on their new environment, what did they first do?:
- When Keita first 'landed' in the deep sea, he was instantly panicking as the capsule (?) he was in began caving in due to the water pressure. With whatever calmness he had, he managed to take a deep breath of what oxygen was left before he was surrounded by thousands of pounds of water pressure. To his extreme luck and relief, he managed to find a surviving oxygen tank and mask, wasting no time in adorning it and taking shallow breaths in a desperate attempt to keep his lungs from collapsing under the water pressure. This mask, covering his eyes as well, allowed him to get a perfect view of the black nothingness surrounding him. Keita, having been 'prepared' for situations similar to this and having vast knowledge on the sea itself, knew he wouldn't survive long if he didn't find a source of air. That began his blind search for a cave that could possibly hold air bubbles.
- were there other life forms?:
- Yes, there were. Things ranging from lantern fish and goblin sharks to colossal squids and giant, snake-like creatures.
- discoveries they made?:
- - He discovered that the Megalodon was indeed still in existence (and that it was scary as hell).
- - He discovered a giant, snake-like creature. To him, it resembled those long Chinese dragons so he called them Drameya, a combination of two Russian words, дракон змея (drakon zmeya), meaning dragon snake. He found that they weren't hostile, at least not towards him, and all lived in one big group, or, as he called it, tribe. He was often accompanied by one or more of these giant creatures. He believes them to be around 30 to 40 feet in length and about 4 or 5 feet in width with long, razor sharp teeth that are only visible when they open their mouths. They all vary in numerous colors and markings. Some are shades of dark red and purple, others are greys and yellows. Some have just spots or just stripes, others have a combination of the two or random markings. They're all, as he noted, very intelligent and their eyes somehow portray that.
- - He discovered another species, a large, "armored" fish. Because of it's heavy, solid form, he called it Nayaba, a combination of two Russian words, бронированная рыба (bronirovannaya ryba), meaning armored fish. He learned very quickly that this fish was carnivorous, aggressive, and difficult to kill. The Nayaba's "armor" is pure, solid bone under its scaly flesh. Although it's dangerous to encounter it, it is actually quite uncoordinated in the high pressure conditions given how heavy it is. Though uncoordinated, it's extremely fast and intelligent. There are many of them but they only roam alone, never in groups because of how aggressive they are. He believes they're about 4 or 5 feet in length and 1 or 2 feet in width with 3 rows of razor sharp teeth lining the top and bottom of it's mouth. This species only comes in one color: a deep, green-ish color.
- - He discovered that there was more aquatic plant life than previously believed. This also led to his discovery that all, except two, were edible and held extraordinary healing capabilities (i couldn't remember this word and my brain hurts now).
- life in their new environment: (buckle up ur seatbelt bc this shit is awful)
- Keita's life in the deep sea was harsh and unforgiving. He spent the first 5 to 10 years adapting to the environment and struggling to survive. He used every ounce of knowledge he'd obtained in his classes/courses to get through every moment. At first, he spent most of his time in whatever unoccupied cave he could find. In most, if not all, of these caves were the air pockets he used to survive until he formed gills. While in the caves, he forced his vision to make out objects that surrounded him. His days of blindness brought on many problems, the most prominent being he often ran into jagged cave walls and often ended up with scratches and bruises, some of which turned into scars that were later joined with many more from his escapades outside of the caves. He stuck to the caves until his vision adapted to the darkness and his eyes adapted to the saltwater, only feeding on small fish and non-poisonous algae. Being smart about the situation, he was sure to save what he found to eat and ration it, unsure of how long he may go without finding fresh food.
- The first time Keita ventured out from the cave he resided in, he nearly got himself killed within minutes. This was around the time his vision adapted to the pitch blackness though long after he'd grown gills. The first few minutes were okay to say the least. He hadn't seen any sign of life let alone movement. That thought was swept away when, moments later, he was being rammed into by an incredibly strong, unknown force, the creature he later named Nayaba. If he were on land, the air would have been knocked out of him but since he was deep in the ocean, he simply seized up in pain, momentarily forgetting how to function. When he'd open his eyes moments later after the worse of the pain faded, he had to move out of the way of the predator quickly as it came charging towards him again. His swimming skills weren't as developed yet so he struggled to get away, eventually ducking into "his" cave again and hiding in a branched off tunnel that wouldn't fit the large carnivore. Although his first encounter out of the cave wasn't pleasant, he still made plans to venture out again, of course after the aching pain and bruise faded.
- The second time Keita left the cave he was much more prepared. Figuring he'd need something to protect himself after encountering the Nayaba, he made his own weapon, a simple dagger made out of bone he'd snatched up from the ocean floor. He was sure to carry it with him wherever he went and his second journey was much more pleasant and a lot less action-packed. He just used that time to explore and become more familiar with his surroundings. Years passed by uneventfully, unless you count going out everyday to explore, gather supplies and food, and avoid any potentially harmful creatures as exciting.
- After spending around 30 to 35 years in the dark depths, Keita was more than well-off. His swimming speed improved tremendously and he barely noticed the water pressure anymore. Because he swam under such high pressure, he, by default, gained a lot of muscle. He had, of course, made more weapons, including two spears and two more daggers. His skin had thickened and his heartbeat had slowed to adjust to the freezing temperature. He'd also developed the ability to manipulate water. He had no clue how this happened or how it was possible but he discovered this one day upon another encounter with another Nayaba. When the sharp-toothed predator charged him, he instinctively held his hand out to "steady" and aim his spear but he was shocked to find what seemed like sonic waves emitting from his hands. The waves pushed back the Nayaba and sent it tumbling away in a disoriented state. Once Keita discovered this, he continued practicing the ability he'd somehow gained from being underwater and it wasn't long before it became his primary defense and entertainment.
- It was another year or two when Keita discovered the giant snake-like creatures that lurked in the deep. When he first saw one, he thought he'd earn a similar treatment he'd received from the Nayaba. To his surprise, and relief, the creature only approached him slowly and nudged its nose against him curiously, watching him with intelligent and curious eyes. It wasn't long before it followed him around almost like a puppy and even led him straight to a large, open-mouthed cave where the rest of it's species resided. He decided to name them Drameya, eventually giving each individual names depending on their markings and color to distinguish one from another. He spent most, if not all, of his time with these gentle creatures, observing and learning more about them. From what he observed, he found that although the tribe, as he called the group, was docile and welcoming towards him, they were fierce and terrifying towards anything that got too close. Being with this tribe of snake-like creatures made it much easier for him to survive. He didn't have to scavenge as much for food and wasn't constantly glancing over his shoulder since one or more of the Drameya were accompanying him.
- Years later, Keita was attacked by another deep sea dweller. The unexpected attack was brought on by one of the smaller sharks living in the darkness. The wound, being more severe than others he'd suffered from, demanded to be treated. By luck, he'd been near an area that was alive with plant life, to his surprise. He recognized a few of the aquatic plants as some he'd learned about during his days on land. Deciding to test his luck, he grabbed a few, along with some unknown ones, and crushed them up with a rock. He applied the crushed mixture on the wound on his side and covered it with seaweed floating around. Another surprise to him, the bleeding stopped quickly and the wound was healed in a matter of days. Realizing the aquatic plants, both known and unknown, held extraordinary healing capabilities, he began spending more days there, testing each plant and combination on small fish to see how each affected living things. He learned that two of the plants were deadly when used alone but worked as a harmless coagulant when combined with one or more of the safe plants.
- adaptations:
- - Gills formed both on the sides of his neck and on either side of where his lungs are located to help him breath properly. He still has functioning lungs and is perfectly capable of breathing normally on land.
- - The pupils in his eyes have become much like cat's, or just like any nocturnal animals, to be able to help him see in the pitch blackness. In the dark, his pupils are dilated to help him see. If he were on land in the light or in lighter water, his pupils would be slitted. His eyes also became a much lighter color than their original brown, turning into a more blue-ish white color. At a distance, anyone could mistake this lightened eye color for blindness but upon closer look, his black, slitted pupils are more obvious and his captivating, calculating eyes are definitely seeing.
- - He grew a nictitating membrane, basically a transparent third eyelid, that allows him to keep his eyes open and protects them from the salt water. Ever seen those shows and the crocodile/alligator blinks and the first eyelid blinks normally but then another goes sideways? Well, that's a nictitating membrane. I don't know how to describe it.
- - His skin adapted to be thick and resistant to the freezing temperatures and whatever dangers he encountered. It'd be very difficult to draw blood from him, let alone stick a needle in him, given the thickness of his skin is near impossible to pierce with a needle since it evolved as a form of protection against predators of the deep.
- - His heartbeat is extremely slow, another adaptation against the freezing temperature. If he were on land, it'd be impossible to pick up his heartbeat by just pressing your fingers to a vein and looking for a pulse.
- - He can go long periods of time without eating or sleeping. He formed extra glands (idk what they're called) that allow him to run off of saved energy (?) so he doesn't have to eat or sleep as often. This is because food is scarce and sleeping can be dangerous unless he's in a semi-safe place.
- abilities:
- - He swims very quickly. If he swims quickly in high water pressure, he's basically The Flash of the swimming world in low water pressure.
- - He developed the ability to use echolocation. He began using this when he couldn't see but he continued using it since it was better than hearing no sound at all. Plus, it was an efficient way to find food or detect predators. This is also how he was able to somewhat communicate with the Drameya, through the clicks and calls of echolocation.
- - Although his skin is thick and tough, it's actually quite soft to the touch unless he is uncomfortable around someone. Whenever he feels threatened, his skin hardens and tenses and feels like porcelain.
- - He can see in the dark thanks to his eyes that evolved for the darkness.
- - He is able to manipulate water (#waterbender #avatar4lyfe).
- aftermath:
- Keita, upon returning to land, had an extremely hard time readapting. He found it strange to feel freshwater again given it's much lighter than saltwater. He also had trouble adjusting to having to breath. Underwater, he didn't even have to take a breath since the water just flowed in and out of his gills with no troubles, not having to give thought about it. On land, he has to remember to breath since at times, if he forgets, he just stops breathing for a moment before his lungs scream for air and he realizes (dude this would be some funny shit to see). He absolutely cannot take a shower. The rushing water sends him into a panic attack given it resembles the sound he heard when the capsule caved in with water his first moment in the deep sea. In the dark depths, there was no rushing water and it was just calm and soundless. If running water is silent, he's okay with hearing it and even holding his hands absentmindedly under it just to feel it washing over his skin. He's fine taking baths but hearing any form of rushing water makes him anxious. Hell, hearing loud noises makes this tall man anxious since, as stated, it was dead silent in the deep sea.
- Keita's first few days out of water, he always carried a water bottle with him, actually, he still does. When alone, he'd use his ability and manipulate it in his palm and over his arm. He did this because he felt the constant need to just go back to his newfound home in the deep sea. He'd always try and be close to water in anyway and anywhere, of course unless it was running with a rushing sound. Out on land, another complication he experienced was communication. His immediate reaction on shore was to use his echolocation and sense for anything threatening. When being talked to, he'd impulsively reply in a series of clicks before realizing he needed to reply with actual words.
- Another struggle Keita encountered was nightmares. These nightmares stemmed from not just his struggling in the deep sea but from the awful treatment he experienced as a cadet. It was often he'd wake himself up with a cry out for help or in the pain he'd felt during that time. Then again, as stated, he doesn't sleep much anyways but this only gives him more reason to not sleep.
- ⁙ BECOME ETHEREAL ⁙
- personality: (his personality didn't change that much but it still changed a lot so here goes)
- Keita's personality changed very little but also drastically all the same. Take his temper and multiply it by ten. He is an always lit fuse and can be set off by the smallest of things. He can be very insensitive and blunt, speaking his mind no matter the consequence. He is very reserved and cold, always sporting a blank face and glaring eyes. He carries himself with confidence and the utmost surety in the fact that he is more physically and mentally advanced than most of the people surrounding him. His intelligence, of course, didn't fade nor decrease during his years in the deep sea and, instead, expanded to unimaginable lengths. Although his cold traits intimidate and keep away other people, he still holds the same compassionate persona he had as a cadet. He doesn't completely turn a blind eye to someone else's struggles and will step in and help when he deems it necessary. He easily becomes protective over the people he warms up to and has a low tolerance level for anyone bad-mouthing them. Hell, he has a low tolerance level for any shape or form of disrespect or complaining. At first, he seems like he's by no means easily amused given he doesn't even grin or let his blank face falter when someone does or says something funny. But, when he warms up to someone, he'll crack a grin or small chuckle whenever they're being silly.
- Keita, despite his tough exterior, is actually an insecure, anxious, and, surprisingly, shy, person, traits that are somehow still present from his cadet life. He knows his looks, or rather, his evolved features, are different and considered strange. That fact alone makes him very nervous and insecure about his ability to cope as well on land as he does in the sea. His calculating eyes are always snapping towards every small noise and he almost always is making his clicking echolocation sounds to find out what it was. He's always very cautious about new people, places, and things. He's shy in the way he doesn't know how to handle interacting with other people who are actually trying to be nice to him. A blush blooms across his cheeks and he struggles to fight away a stutter. He didn't interact much with others before his deep sea life and he sure as hell didn't interact with humans during his deep sea life. He becomes a blushing, stuttering mess whenever he receives anything close to a compliment and resorts to just averting his gaze and pretending he isn't bashful.
- To summarize, Keita looks scary and acts scary until you say something nice/complimenting towards him and then he turns into a precious cinnamon bun.
- how do they react coming back to Earth?:
- Keita hadn't willingly gone back to the surface. During, what he called, his daily patrol of the area he and the Drameya lived in, he discovered mangled pieces of a fishing net. Growing curious and suspicious, he decided to swim closer to the surface. That's when Keita knew, he fucked up. He'd been exploring the brightened area and scanning for any signs of where the net came from. His mere moments of unawareness cost him his freedom and he was suddenly scooped in a black fabric that served as a net. He realized he had walked, well, swam, right into their trap. He was brought to the surface and on a boat but he was immediately sedated, of course with an anesthetic gas because, y'know, no needles, before he could get a look at his surroundings.
- When Keita awoke in a tank of water in an unfamiliar place, he was immediately pissed off. He took it upon himself to climb out and destroy whatever else was in the room he'd been in. This man was furious. This, of course, attracted the attention of others and he was soon surrounded by unknown people who all tried normal methods of calming him down, not wanting to have to attempt to sedate him again. Surprisingly, or not so surprisingly, it wasn't one of the staff members who ended up getting Keita to calm down, it was another cadet (maybe) who managed to talk sense into him. Although he calmed down, he was still immensely pissed off and glared at any staff member who even so much as looked his way.
- will they go against COSMOS or side with them?:
- Oh, you bet your ass he's going against them.
- will they keep their discoveries secret or not?:
- Keita will for sure keep his discoveries a secret. He might tell someone he grew close to and knows without a doubt that he can trust them.
- who are they closet to?: Mercury or Uranus
- [NOTE - I think he'd be closest to Mercury and/or Uranus because he can relate to them in a sense. Mercury because of the punching thing mentioned in the slot and the fact that it shows he/she hates COSMOS just as much as Keita does. But I think he'd be closer/closest to Uranus because he, once upon a time, drowned himself in books and knowledge and, according to the slot description, so did Uranus. IDK, I just feel like they'd be the closest.]
- who do they dislike the most?: Jupiter or Mars
- [NOTE - Again, according to slot descriptions, these two were more...onboard/involved with COSMOS launch? He'd dislike them the most because of that.]
- habits:
- - Whenever he walks into anywhere, he makes clicking noises, aka uses echolocation. He'll also forget that someone is actually speaking to him and will respond with echolocation, clicks and calls, before realizing they were just staring at him strangely.
- - When he's happy about something and/or comfortable and content around someone, he makes soft little clicking sounds that are really cute and lowkey sound like purring if you don't listen closely.
- - Whenever someone, specifically staff members and other people he doesn't like, get to close to him, he tenses up and his skin does that thing where it feels like porcelain.
- - He always carries around a water bottle and, whenever staff members aren't nearby, will take off the cap and casually manipulate and play with the water.
- - When he's spaced out (hah puns) or thinking deeply (lol more puns), he traces circles on any nearby object, whether it be the arm of a chair or somebody's leg (wink wonk).
- - Whenever he's angry and is actually making an effort not to beat the shit out of someone, he paces and mumbles cuss words under his breath in Russian.
- - When he feels shy or flustered, he slightly tugs at the end of his shirt and/or sticks his hands in his pockets.
- hobbies:
- - He loves to read. To his relief, he stills finds enjoyment in this same hobby he partook in during and before his cadet days.
- - He likes to watch marine documentaries and point out everything that's false.
- - He enjoys arts and crafts. He discovered he had an unknown drawing talent and that he is actually good at making origami figures. It's often he is sketching scenes from his life in the deep sea and drawing out what the Drameya and Nayaba looked like.
- suggested scenes: (fuck)
- - Someone asking if he was a mermaid because he lived in the sea and has gills. He gets all confused and just sorda 'keita.exe has stopped working' because he just doesn't know how to answer. He ends up asking one of the other cadets and is actually slightly offended when said cadet explains because he'd technically be a merman.
- - He's told to take a shower and someone was preparing it for him (?). The sound of rushing water makes him freeze up and he starts having a panic attack. Given he's never had a panic attack before, he just starts freaking out even more because he gets the sudden sensation of drowning and is just trying to get away from the noise. One of the cadets is trying to calm him down because he's just gasping for breath and shaking and crying and the poor baby is a mess. This cadet that ends up getting him to relax and breathe could be the one he becomes close to and trusts. Because they helped him when he had his panic attack, he's always just silently observing them and helping them whenever they need help to show his gratitude since he isn't a very vocal person.
- - I don't know, uh....Someone drops something or there's a storm and the loud noise scares him so he just hides behind and/or sticks by the cadet he's closest to for comfort.
- ❭ STORM CALL ❬
- anything you'd like to add:
- Fun Facts
- - looks like he can kill you and can actually kill you but he is also a darling cinnamon bun
- - It's not like he doesn't talk or communicate with anybody, he just only butts in with blunt, slightly sarcastic comments until he's comfortable with the person/people. When he's more comfortable with them, he'll be significantly nicer but still a sarcastic muffin.
- - bro, he's fucking smart and observant, he's basically a human lie detector.
- - He is lowkey still parental and secretly worries for the other cadets who have it worse than him.
- message to author: aye fam, sorry this took for fucking ever. I really love the concept of this apply fic and I'm hella excited for it! I feel like there's some areas I kind of lacked with this form so, like, I'm sorry for the trash you read. :')
