A hiding place
The golden idol smiled beatifically at me, even as I twisted its feet. As I had thought, they unscrewed from its body; inside, I found a sheaf of papers. I examined them. Plans for the Silver Tree, by the looks of them, but annotated in the language of the Mongols. William could not have written these. Did someone write them at his direction? Or were they someone else's entirely?
