  1. Hello Dexeo
  2.
  3. I'm René and I will be reviewing your plot today. I am kinda harsh and strict on builds, and as I briefly mentioned ingame, your plot is not really special in any way. You have a mediocre tree in the middle, at best, with flat terrain around it. Generally you need more, and better structured organics, better plot/terrain elevation (and not to mention terrain in general lol). Your structures are to simple too and need work.
  4.
  5. I would strongly suggest that you do /plot clear though, and start from scratch. Not only will it be easier to start from scratch and follow some basic guidelines, it'll also be far quicker then fixing up what you currently have.
  6.
  7. I'll be talking about different elements of a build to explain what we're going to do! Elements will be Terrain, Structure and Organics. Lets start with Terrain!
  8.
  9. Terrain:
  10. Your terrain is kind of flat and non existant. A easy way to do cliffy terrain is by doing a cliffy settup. That can easely be achieved by doing a outline, then curving it all outwards or inwards and adding grass on top. I will be doing a test to show you with a few screenshots, that i hope you'll understand from:
  11.
  12. Step 1: First thing you will want to do is make a basic outline for your terrain in the air. This defines your height for the current cliff/terrain part:
  13. http://gyazo.com/f45e1550d8c32b332fd12b7a9f31e473
  14. As you can see on the screenshot, i just outlined the cliff shape with a line of stone.
  15.
  16. Step 2: Lets say you want to curve your cliff inwards. You do this by adding sections of 1-5 stone blocks going down, then moving second layer 1 in. I will show you with wool colours what different layers are. White wool is the first layer, which continues on your outline, orange wool is what goes behind the outline layer, and magenta wool is what goes behind the second layer (orange wool). This is what it would look like:

  18. If it was all stone, it would look like this:
  19. http://gyazo.com/2c46b308ec09af41faa3e9db644ef5ae
  20.
  21. Step 3: Now that you have your basic cliff, you would add grass bits on top. You do that by adding grass lines on top of the outline, and a few "splatter" blocks here and there to break it up. Grass outline will be done with Light Blue Wool, and Splatter blocks will be done with Yellow Wool. Here's how that would look:
  22. http://gyazo.com/ae095a7acee6abd3d738117c0943bfc2
  23. Now if we change that to grass, it would look like this:
  24. http://gyazo.com/37fafccb5476c56f7cf3412b90788c35
  25. As you can see, on top of it i added a little extra "platforms" for grass, that is basic elevation. Ill add basic elevation to the bottom aswell, and that would look like this:
  26. http://gyazo.com/e926f74fd0a8b69013f0d3f7afa51fe6
  27.
  28. This covers the very basics for terrain! That being said, this is basics. Define your shapes and get a visual idea of what you wish to create. If you can do that, you can use these techniques for a lot. This terrain was done in a min, so it isnt the best, but should serve to give you an idea.
  29.
  30. For the next part, lets move on to structures.
  31.
  32. Structure:
  33. Everything about your structure wasnt to great. It was to tall, to undetailed, had no depth or anything. I will show you how to do a very basic and simple house layout to show you a few elements of structure that you can get ideas from.
  34.
  35. Step 1: Start by defining your outline and picking your style. I will use a stupidly simple style for showcasing, as its quicker to do so this wont take several hours of showing, plus itll be easier to see what im doing from images.
  36. Here's what an outline would look like:
  37. http://gyazo.com/6398e6b420b545e49f8478aaa76647ae
  38. As you can see, this was really simple and basic, nothing to hard there. (This probably wont work for a larger structure exactly like this, keep in mind its purely for learning purposes)
  39.
  40. Step 2: This is where you start defining you structure. You do this by adding in detail and depth. I can only do so much with the scale of this structure, so i wont over do it. Fill in basic materials, then move on from there. Heres a example screenshot:
  41. http://gyazo.com/c72b8244f40307ecc2f5f1cabea4bc65
  42.
  43. Step 3: Next thing you want to do, is start adding detail to define shapes. You do that by adding in various other materials and what not to add depth and detail. Getting an idea for a palette (Your materials used for this project), is a good idea. Make sure they follow the same colour schemes and don't stand out to much.
  44. Adding some basic detailing could look like this:
  45. http://gyazo.com/8f1e56aa788defd144bfba679587fa97 - Take in note that this is very limited and quite shit. It's done on a small scale and probably underdetailed. I usually build on scales thats A LOT bigger. Here's a picture of another project I'm working on, where same ideas are used, but on a larger scale:
  46. http://gyazo.com/70dbafb87f13c41dbe7cccfbb57b4abf
  47.
  48. Step 4: Last thing you want to do with your structure, is add a roof. If you're doing a medieval style, which is probably good to start with if youre new at building, I would add a stone outline and a plank roof. That would look like this:
  49. http://gyazo.com/e10fd6b0cf4394819bca9ed3bd063b29
  50.
  51. Now, this roof is pretty basic again, and the structure is aswell in general. Keep in mind this is for teaching purposes.
  52.
  53. Last step we will be covering, is Organics, Trees in this case. Ill show how to make a really basic one.
  54.
  55. Organical Trees:
  56.
  57. Step 1: Define your tree outline. I will be using white wool for the main trunk, and orange wool for branches.
  58. Your basic tree outline + branches/trunk could look like this:
  59. http://gyazo.com/8ba27463515e813b1ddc48ecb8919ab6 - This is your basic tree trunk
  60. http://gyazo.com/29449fa2d813fa6b0b56ebba94d40a8f - This is your basic tree with branches
  61. http://gyazo.com/dd04226fee4e8c10edc5e16e3ac15973 - This is your basic tree with actual logs
  62.
  63. Step 2: Defining where your leafs go.
  64. Doing that is relatively easy, you would make a circle shape around the branches you want to be "connected". That would look something like this:
  65. http://gyazo.com/d8b23a1ea6ba1b2e1675b256b37faee5
  66.
  67. Step 3: Adding in more leafs and finishing your tree. This part is the easiest. You fill up the circle with leafs and make a circle shape on top. Itll look somewhat like this:
  68. http://gyazo.com/c7354be3d96337eb958d8380cd18fdcc
  69. You do the same under the leaf crown to add shape and fill under it. Itll look like this:
  70. http://gyazo.com/69419400c89a6c15b84086faa4b8c88e
  71.
  72. And that is basically it. For trees its important that you define your shape and idea before starting. It's hard to just purely yolo them without some kind of idea.
  73.
  74. I hope these things will help you a bit. Keep in mind the easiest way to get good at building, is by using other builds as inspiration. Learn by seeing what others do and try to pick up on that.
  75.
  76. Kind regards, René
