CHIYO is a firey person, with a quick temper and vocabulary to match. Her experience in the air force has lead her to be quite a ferocious person, in the face of both adversity and other people. She poses an intimidating figure and she's not one to get on the bad side of, for fear of your life and eardrums. However, her short temper only really comes into effect if you piss her off or get on her bad side, which, with her relative indifference to most minor situations, isn't too likely. However, she's still a fiery and stubborn person who is not one to mess with.

Courageous and big-hearted, CHIYO is a strong-willed person, with a nonchalance towards problems and a constant loyalty to those she loves and cares about; despite that all she believes in 'a boy for the world' and would be willing to sacrifice herself for the good of others. She's not one for big gestures of bravery; her courage is shown through little actions, but will occasionally have situations where she has to make massive decisions. Despite her quick temper, she keeps it in check in order to create the best possible conditions for a good outcome, and her experience with leadership and space expeditions help that a lot. Also, in contrast to her fiery personality and intimidating aura, she's very good with people and knows how to gain trust and loyalty from others. She's trustworthy in return, and deals with situations quickly and efficiently, which is a source of pride for her. Her leadership qualities are almost unparalleled, and she'll always check with others before making any kind of major decision; unless, of course, their answers are REALLY stupid, in which case she'll leave them alone. She's also very adaptable to difficult situations and is able to come up with a multitude of solutions, most of the time.

While CHIYO's confidence is a source of confidence for the whole crew, it can sometimes get her into trouble, as she is sometimes so convicted in her actions and decisions that she'll forget to listen to the other ideas presented. This ties into her pride and her feeling that she constantly has to justify her actions, and can lead to some troubles with other people in terms of making decisions.

CHIYO is a very honest person and is genuine in all she does. She takes pride in her truthfulness and her integrity, and it's a good influence and effect on the crew, as when she gives praise, you know she's telling the truth. The same goes for hiding secrets and lying; she's a very sincere person, and finds it hard to lie to people, even if it's in their best interests to have the truth hidden from them. However her genuine nature links to her kind-hearted and loving nature, and she's a fiercely loyal person, with a lot of love in her heart.

BACKGROUND ; CHIYO was born and grew up in Japan, the older sister by 5 years to YUI, her younger sister. Despite the good, regular life they had in Onomichi, her family moved to New Zealand when she was 12 years old, for her father's ecological work. Despite the sudden uprooting, her young age allowed her to fit into the small local school relatively easily, and while she was never top of the class, more like second equal, she excelled in mathematical subjects such as maths and science, and physical education. When she turned 14, she joined the local air training cadet corps, which she stayed in until her graduation from high school; an overachiever through and through, she did well in both, and upon leaving school, she joined the New Zealand air force with little difficulty due to her cadet corps experience. Her military service paid for her degree in mechanical engineering, and after her three years of airforce service, she was recommended to the space programme, despite her relative inexperience with any form of space exploration. While she went through interviews, she wasn't a first choice for the training programmes, until a trainee dropped out, and she was dropped into their spot. Her training over the three to four years she's had in the space programme has been extensive, and she was part of two successful scientific expeditions in the Terran solar system, as a vice-commander, due to her outstanding trainee performances and her military experience.

FUTURE ; She wants to have a life where she can feel safe in terms of her health and safety, and have some sort of stable routine. Also, a dog would be nice.

> Summer in New Zealand. She loves the heat, the cicada song, the perfectly acceptable excuses for extra ice cream even when she's had four scoops in the last three hours.
> The freedom of being in the air, the liberation in being able to leave all your personal problems on the ground and literally fly away from them.
> The simplicity of military life, of having nothing but your gear and your mission, and your squad. It's similar to her space missions in a way; maybe they have more pressure, but they're similar in the way that you have nothing and yet everything you need at the same time.
> She really really likes that artificial cherry flavour in sweets and chewing gum. Despite other peoples disgust with it, she could care less about what they think. She ran out of her candy stash about a third of the way into the mission and sorely misses it.
> The personal successes in working as hard as you can, the relief in succeeding under pressure and in being praised for her accomplishments.
> She loves any and all kinds of music, from rap to 80s pop and orchestral tracks. Most of her personal hard drives are full of songs and playlists, and she has different playlists for different times and scenarios.

> CHIYO hates cold temperatures, and since she runs at a relatively cool temperature, the low temperatures have never really agreed with her all that much. The air conditioning on the ship is her worst enemy, and she's glad her bunk room is far from the ships cooling system.
> She dislikes having to ask for help because she feels like it makes her feel less of a leader and more dependent. Thinks that as a leader she shouldn't need to have to ask for help.
> The concept of death in her life and it's affect on people. She's terrified of it.
> People who won't LISTEN TO HER and go against her decisions and orders. She's trying to keep her crew safe and if you go against that she's going to get very angry.
> People with hardly any decent manners. Were they raised in a barn? She sure hopes not.

> Bites her lip when she's concentrating on something and when she's reading.
> Fiddles with the hems of her clothing when she’s bored, impatient, or frustrated. Mostly when she’s bored, and has nothing else to do.
> Cracks her knuckles to relieve stress and pressure. The noise is always VERy loud, despite her trying to mask it.
> Traces the scars on her hands subconciously when she's doing other jobs and concentrating on things.

HOBBIES ;
> She likes to just plug in her headphones and sit in one of the ship's portholes, looking out at the nothingness around the ship. She tells the rest of the crew that she just likes to look at the stars, but in actuality, it helps her to calm down and remember that she's hardly anything in the universe, and process everything that's happened up to that point. Quite a morbid thought, but hey, it works for her.
> CHIYO is a bit of an obsessive athlete and spends a lot of her free time in the ship's gym; if you can even call it that. She likes being able to stay fit on her own terms, and the satisfaction at the upkeep of her fitness makes her happy.
> She keeps a diary; though more of a journal, and will murder you if you read it. It’s a mess of daily entries, midnight (or what counts as midnight in the middle of space) thoughts, and little snippets of stuff she wants to remember. It’s one of her most prized possessions and she's got a backup for when she inevitably runs out of pages and space.
> CHIYO enjoys singing and humming under her breath; the problem is that she cannot sing at all, and is pretty much tone deaf. There's a reason the rest of the crew own earplugs.

TRIVIA ;
> She struggles with her bilingual nature (Japanese and English); she's prone to forgetting a word in one language, but remembering it in the other, mistranslating idioms and quotes, and occasionally not having the right word to express what she's saying in the language she's communicating in.
> She's asexual. She's never had any interest in sex or having a sexual partner, and that's more than fine by her.
> CHIYO has a bad habit of forgetting important dates such as birthdays and holidays, and also once a date. That did not end well.

WHAT WERE THEIR FIRST IMPRESSIONS? ;
CHIYO ; She thought he was a bit of an idiot, personally. She didn't see in him what on earth had prompted the mission controllers to put him on the mission, and she couldn't stand his over the top attitude. His choice of fashion was also some of the most horrendous she'd ever seen.

HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIS PERSONALITY BE PORTRAYED? ; i'm mainly leaving it up to you, but in terms of the nature of their relationships, if he's portrayed to be a bit more out-there and basically a mess in terms of everything, that would work pretty well?

RELATIONSHIP START ; hate each other. actually cannot stand the other due to their serious problems with each other's personality and traits.

RELATIONSHIP MIDDLE ; gradually begin to warm up to each other; their insults hold a lot less heat, and they actually begin to see things from the others point of view.

RELATIONSHIP END ; are much more comfortable with each other, and can relate to each other much more readily. they're a force to be reckoned with in terms of getting stuff done, and while they still have their bumps, they're much more in tune with each other than before.

> ARE YOU FIT FOR THIS MISSION? <

HOW DID THEY GET CHOSEN FOR THE SPACE PROGRAM? ; After her first period of military service ended, she had an officer recommend that she should consider applying for the space programme as she was way too skilled for the job she was doing in terms of traits and experience. She laughed it off, but when she was pressured by more and more higher-ups, she put her name down just to get them to shut up. She was selected as a trainee candidate, but was on a waitlist, as she was far from a first choice. However, luckily or unluckily, many trainees dropped out because of the pressure, and she was dropped into the space program without a word.

JOB BEFOREHAND ; New Zealand Air force Squadron A3 captain, followed by vice commander of scientific expeditions EUROPA-2 and EUROPA-3 to Neptune.

WHY DID THEY DECIDE TO APPLY? ; She really had nothing to lose. While she had a nice life, that's all it was; nice. She craved adventure, she craved the adrenaline rushes you get in moments of pure chaos and that was something that could give it to her.

> CHIYO passes out on one of the computers and the rest of the crew have to somehow lug her to her bunk room. Problem is, she hates being woken up, and is a pretty light sleeper, so it's a bit of a fiddly process.
> Her and VENUS chatting about life back on earth, and getting sentimental together.
> Her and JUPITER discussing the mission and his calculations.

REQUESTED SCENES ;
> TAEHYUNG spots CHIYO in her usual spot in front of one of the portholes with her headphones, and in an unusually calm and sedated mood, while everyone else is asleep. He drifts over and it's the first time they're able to have a complete civil situation; they talk about what they miss on earth and what they think of the situation they're in at that point.
> The two of them bond over their shitty music tastes after one of them accidentally plays a song out loud that the other knows.

> JUPITER ; the two of them work together quite often to ensure the smooth running of the mission, and he's good company in terms of her personality.
> SATURN ; she's a good influence and mood setter for the crew, and MARS can respect that a lot, since there's always someone who needs some cheer.
> VENUS ; she sees a bit of her sister in VENUS, and it's nice to have someone who isn't a complete mess or lone wolf in the crew, even if they are the victim of many of MARS' scoldings.
> MERCURY ; while their bubbly personality sets off SATURN's own cheer, they can be a bit too independent, which can lead to clashes with MARS.
