  1. >Anon ran down the foggy street.
  2. >The cold air chilling his exposed arms.
  3. >BUMP!
  4. >Dollar bills floated everywhere.
  5. >A tall poofy haired girl stood confused looking at Anon.
  6. >"Hey, somebody stop that kid!"
  7. >An officer emerged from the fog.
  8. >He grabbed the boy by his arm,
  9. >"Second time I've caught you stealin, I told you next time I did I'd book you at the juvenile hall!"
  10. >Anon struggled,
  11. "H-hey lemmie go!"
  12. >"Where are your parents Anon?"
  13. >Anon remained silent.
  14. >"Excuse me, officer."
  15. >"What is it?"
  16. >"I'm, actually his mother."
  17. >"Really? You uh, look a little young to be his mother."
  18. >She shot him a seductive look.
  19. >"Why thank you officer."
  20. >The officer blushed flattening his expression.
  21. >"Uh, geez.. You're really this kids mom right?"
  22. >"Yes sir."
  23. >The woman winked at Anon.
  24. >Anon nodded and quickly piped in,
  25. "Uh, yeah, she's uh, my mom!"
  26. >"Hey, kid, is all the money here and accounted for?"
  27. >Anon picked up the scattered bills on the ground, the officer snatched them up from him.
  28. >"Miss uh-"
  29. >"Dazzle, Adagio Dazzle."
  30. >"Right eh, Miss Dazzle, I'm sure you've taught ya boy here better than to be stealin when the cashier is lookin away from his register?"
  31. >Adagio shot him a coy look and in a just barely audible facetious tone uttered,
  32. >"Of course officer, Anon, you know better than that don't you?"
  33. "Y-yeah, I uh.. Dunno what I was thinking."
  34. >"Well, I shouldn't have to tell you that stealin is against the law, I had the feelin you knew that already. How old are you Anon?"
  35. >He shuffled his foot around a bit before answering.
  36. "I'm 11 sir.."
  37. >"Gash, eleven years old and robbing a store. Whats the world coming to these days?"
  38. >"You're not gonna take him in are you?"
  39. >The officer sighed.
  40. >"I'll need to write up a report. And if you can promise me he'll be properly reprimanded at home, I'll release him to you ok?"
  41. >Adagio nodded.
  42. >The officer asked her a few more questions before walking off back into the fog with the stolen money in tow.
  43.
  44. >Adagio stuck around the kid.
  45. >"What, what do you want?"
  46. >"I'm just curious, why were you trying to rob that store anyway?"
  47. "Ain't none of your business."
  48. >"Oh, come on, that's not very nice. I just saved you back there."
  49. "I wouldnta got caught in the first place If I didn't bump into you!"
  50. >"Don't be rude! Now, why were you out here robbing a store in the first place, answer me!"
  51. "I.. I.."
  52. >"What, just say it!"
  53. "I uh well, I saw the cash register open, and the guy barely pays any attention anyway, I figured I could just grab the cash and make a dash you know?"
  54. >"That's not what I meant, why do you need money?"
  55. "I.. I'm homeless, for now that is."
  56. >"You're 11 how is that even possible?"
  57. "OK, fine! I'm not homeless, I ran away from home!"
  58. >"Why? Don't you love your family?"
  59. "Sch! No, my father is a drunk, and my mom is dead! And I don't have any brothers or sisters.."
  60. >"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know, but, maybe your father would.."
  61. "No! My father doesn't give a crap about me!"
  62. >"So, you don't wanna go back then?"
  63. "Heck no! He's an asshole, I hate him!"
  64. >"Well, don't you, have somewhere to stay?"
  65. "It doesn't matter! Why do you care anyway?
  66. >"Well, maybe I can help you Anon."
  67. "Unless you can get me a new dad I don't think so. I'll be fine, thanks for the help I guess."
  68. >Anon walked off leaving Adagio alone.
  69.
  70. LATER THAT NIGHT.
  71. --------------
  72. >The rush of cars driving by.
  73. >Anon sat curled up underneath the bridge.
  74. >He felt the frigid breeze of the night air pierce his body.
  75. >His teeth chattered trying to get comfortable.
  76. >Anons eyelids felt heavy, but he couldn't quite get to sleep.
  77. >His stomach growled and he felt his hunger pain him.
  78. >Anon began to sob against his arms
  79. >He balled his fists and gritted his teeth.
  80. >All of a sudden he heard a car pull up to the side of the bridge.
  81. >Footsteps in the distance come closer.
  82. >A person in a white hoodie made their way closer to Anon.
  83.
  84. >Anon backed away at it's approach.
  85. >Removing the hood a big poof of orange hair flowed out, it was revealed to be the woman from earlier.
  86. "W-what do you want? I'm not going back!"
  87. >"Shh sh sh sh! It's ok, I'm not here to do that, relax ok?"
  88. >Adagio sat down next to him.
  89. >Anon folded his arms looking away from her.
  90. >Something came over Anons head.
  91. >He jostled struggling against the cloth-like material,
  92. "Hey what're you-"
  93. >Warm, soft and warm.
  94. >Anon had the white hoodie she was wearing pulled over him.
  95. >"You looked a little cold out here, thought this might keep you warm."
  96. >Anon slipped his arms into the sleeves.
  97. >It was a little big, but only slightly.
  98. "Thanks.."
  99. >Adagio smiled.
  100. >"It's ok if I just sit here with you for a little while right?"
  101. "I guess."
  102. >"Good."
  103. >Anon put his hands in the hoodie's front pocket.
  104. >It was warm, really warm..
  105. >Something about it too..
  106. >It smelled nice.
  107. >Anons stomach growled again.
  108. >"Sounds like you're hungry. When was the last time you ate?"
  109. "I-i dunno, this morning I guess?"
  110. >"What did you eat?"
  111. "An apple.."
  112. >"That's it? All you've eaten is an apple?"
  113. "Yeah, so?"
  114. >"Well, no wonder you're hungry. Tell you what Anon, how about we take a ride, and I'll buy you anything you want tonight, pizza, burgers, ice cream."
  115. "R-really?"
  116. >Anon perked up with a slight look of desperation.
  117. "I uh.. Well, I mean, I guess I am pretty hungry.."
  118. >Adagio looked at him with a near devious grin.
  119. >"I thought so."
  120. >Adagio stood up offering Anon her hand.
  121. >"Ready to go?"
  122. >Anon hesitated for a moment before taking her hand and being pulled up to his feet.
  123. >"Good boy, I'll take you wherever you wanna go for dinner."
  124. >Anon followed her to her car.
  125. >He opened up the passengers door and got inside, Adagio went around to the drivers side and got in.
  126. >And so they drove on down the road.
  127. >The Calling's "Wherever you will go" was playing on the radio.
  128. >"So, where do you wanna go? Taco Bell, Burger King, Jack in the Box?"
  129. "I.. Uh, Taco Bell I guess."
  130. >"Hey, I got a friend who likes to eat there."
  131.
  132. >Adagio drove down the freeway someways till they reached an exit with a taco bell.
  133. >Adagio ordered their food and left the drive-thru.
  134.
  135. >She handed him a bag full of tacos. His eyes widened like he'd just hit the jackpot.
  136. >Adagio laughed
  137. "Go on and dig in."
  138. >He reached in hastily pulling out a taco.
  139. >He gobbled it down in hardly any time.
  140. >And then another
  141. >and another
  142. >and another
  143. >Post fourth taco he let out a groan.
  144. >"Filling up huh?"
  145. "Y-yeah.."
  146. >"You liked those tacos?"
  147. "Yeah, it's like the first real thing I've eaten all day.."
  148. >"I bet. You look pretty tired now after eating."
  149. "I uh-"
  150. >"I know, how about we take you home now ok?"
  151. "N-no! I don't wanna go home!"
  152. >He reached for the door but Adagio pulled him back.
  153. >"Hey! I meant my home! Come spend a night with me."
  154. "But I don't even know you!"
  155. >"But you know I'm a good person now right?"
  156. "I-"
  157. >"And you don't wanna go back to sleeping on the cold hard street rather than in a nice warm house right?"
  158. "Well, no.. But.."
  159. >"Are you scared?"
  160. "I'm not scared!"
  161. >"Well, then that settles it, you're coming to stay with me then!"
  162. "W-what but-"
  163. >"AH! No buts! You're coming to stay with me, we're gonna get you all nice in warm in bed, you're gonna get a good nights sleep, and in the morning I'll make you a nice homemade breakfast."
  164. >Adagio drove a little farther till they reached the home she lived in.
  165. >Adagio got out of the car and Anon did the same.
  166. >Anon followed Adagio to the front door.
  167. >She unlocked it and led him inside flicking on the light.
  168. >"Ah, home sweet home."
  169. "Adagio.."
  170. >Adagio shut the door behind her.
  171. >"What is it Anon?"
  172. "How did you find me after I left?"
  173. >"I asked some guys I saw out on the street if they'd seen a little boy that looked like you. They told me you'd been sleeping under a bridge for the past few days, and sure enough that's where I found you."
  174. >Anon looked surprised.
  175. >"Come on, let's get you into bed, you must be tired."
  176. >She led him over to the couch.
  177. >"I'll go get you some blankets and pillows ok?"
  178. "Uh, alright.."
  179. >Anon stood around awkwardly in the living room for a moment.
  180. >He removed his shoes and socks.
  181. >He felt the plush white carpet beneath his feet.
  182. >Adagio came back with two pillows and a blanket underneath her arms.
  183. >She gently placed the pillows where the arm of the couch was.
  184. >"Alright, lay down on the couch now."
  185. >Anon got on the couch resting his head on the pillows.
  186. >Adagio laid the blanket neatly over the top of him tucking him in.
  187. "Hey, Adagio.."
  188. >"What is it Anon?"
  189. "I think.."
  190. >"Mmm?"
  191. >He smiled a little and said,
  192. "I think, you're a really nice lady."
  193. >"Aww!"
  194. >Adagio gave him a hug.
  195. >Anon felt her warmth wrap around him.
  196. >"If you need anything, just let me know ok, I'll be in my room down the hall ok?"
  197. "Ok, goodnight Adagio."
  198. >Adagio replied affectionately.
  199. >"Goodnight Anon, sleep well."
  200. >Adagio walked off to her room.
  201. >Anon quickly began to rest his eyes.
  202. >He smiled knowing he had a new friend.
  203. >Bathing in the warmth of her sweater and the blanket he drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
