He grew suddenly and wasted no time, keeping a hand on the ball to avoid losing possession as he picked it up, holding it in his two fingers and thumb like an expert pitcher. Johnny was next in line, but Henderson had no intention of delivering the ball to him safe and sound. Watching the fight between Johnny and Grovyle carefully, Henderson lifted his leg, stomped it down, cocked back his arm, and let fly a lightning bolt of a high inside pitch with the pinpoint precision of a military sniper.

The ball was well within Johnny’s reach, but it was positioned in exactly the most awkward position possible for him to reach, so that when he noticed it coming he began to reach for the ball and realized how totally open it left him. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Johnny failed at protecting against both and took a strong hit to one shoulder as the ball slipped past his fingers, sailed through the air, and went right over the nearby wall into one of the other cell block yards.
