  23. Gotcha covered. Everything you need is inside this ZIP.
  24.
  25. 1. IWADS
  26.
  27. These are the actual game files. They are what sourceports use to run the games. Included in this ZIP are:
  28.
  29. DOOM Series:
  30.
  31. - The Ultimate DOOM (DOOM 1) - 1993
  32. - DOOM 2: Hell on Earth - 1994
  33. - Final DOOM (TNT & Plutonia) - 1996
  34.
  35. Other games that use Doom's engine:
  36. - Heretic - 1994
  37. - Hexen: Beyond Heretic - 1995
  38. - Chex Quest - 1996
  39. - Strife - 1996
  40.
  41. 2. Sourceports
  42.
  43. They are what we use to run these games in modern systems. If you want to play something very close to vanilla with added quality of life features, "Crispy Doom" is your best bet. If you want to play with mods, "GZDoom" is what you want. If you want to play multiplayer, use "Zandronum" for that. I included the Windows version of these Sourceports in this ZIP, but they are also available for Linux and Mac. Just type their name in Google and you'll find them.
  44.
  45. - PROTIP#1: If using CrispyDoom, make sure you go into Options -> Crispness and enable "Uncapped Framerate" and anything else you like. This will let you play at nicer frames per second, which is easier on the eyes. Also, if you click crispy-doom-setup.exe, this will let you do other things such as disable Vertical Mouse Movement in the Mouse options menu (so you don't accidentally move Doomguy forwards with your mouse)
  46. - PROTIP#2: If using GZDoom, go to Options -> Display -> OpenGL Renderer -> Texture Options -> and set the Texture Filter Mode to "None (Nearest Mipmap)". Then, go to the previous menu (OpenGL Options) and change Sector Light Mode to "Software". Finally, go back to the main menu -> Options -> Mouse -> and change Prescale Mouse Movement to "No" and Always Mouselook to "On". What we did here was basically making sure the sprites look nice and sharp, give us the proper lighting mode, and make sure our mouse is reasonably sensitive and that we can look up and down.
  47. - PROTIP#3: No matter which sourceport you use, it's a good idea to go into the Controls menu to change the keybinds to what feels comfortable for you. (Personally I recommend WS for moving forward/back, AD for strafing left/right, F or Spacebar to use, Mouse1 to shoot, and Shift to ToggleRun. I also like binding Weapon 4 to "E", Weapon 5 to "Q", Weapon 6 to "Z" and Weapon 7 to "X".). Also change the resolution to what you're most comfortable with (most people will want Fullscreen/1920x1080). You can also change the scale of the HUD in-game by pressing - or =. Crosshairs can be enabled easily from the options menu as well.
  48.
  49. 3. Optional Stuff:
  50.
  51. - MusicPacks
  52. These are .ogg audio files that were processed through a fancy Roland SC-55 MIDI device, so they will sound way better than what the Sourceports would regularly put out using Fluidsynth or whatever else.
  53.
  54. - PWADS
  55. I've included some user created content here, like maps fans have made, and some cosmetic and gameplay mods as well.
  56. Once you're savvy, you can set the ones you like to auto-load whenever you want to start the game.
