  1. SMB1 Sub 5 best strategies:
  2.
  3. 1-1: After getting to the underground pipe, slow down before you reach the exit pipe to get a 380 in-game timer as easily as possible.
  4. You can do this by holding down+left on midair to slow yourself down (down press helps with entering the pipe as soon as possible).
  5.
  6. 1-2: after making your way through the beginning, slow down at the part where they are koopas and goombas right to each other (you only have 5 frames to jump between the bricks and the koopa if you don't slow down).
  7. After the first tricky part, comes the second one which is the hardest of the two, the pipe jumps. You only have 3 pixels to land on the edge of each pipe; however you can slow down a bit at the right lip of the middle pipe to make it easier to not mess up.
  8.
  9. 4-1: Nothing to talk about this level, just know that lakitu will never be a problem as long as you don't slow down throughout the level.
  10.
  11. 4-2: In my opinion, the best way to do the wrong warp is to do three backward bumps on the first row of vertical blocks, then the next row of vertical blocks and then the coin block at the top that is next to the goombas. If you do 3 bumps, you'll guarantee at least 133 pixels, which is 1 pixel more than you need. This strategy can get you a 374 going into the pipe, which normally loses 1 framerule over a harder 3 bump setup, but if you do the strategy quick enough you can match the same framerule as the harder 3 bump setup.
  12.
  13. 8-1: This is probably the strangest level to understand how it's framerule works, in 8-1 you have a 25% chance of getting what is called "bad judges", its hard to explain but i'll explain the best i can. Basically, you need to get "good judges" and to do that, you need to do a full jump just after the middle of the last row of brown blocks of the castle at the beginning, this allows you to stomp the buzzy beetle at a specific time. If you see a white pixel next to the buzzy beetle, then you did it right. After that you have to make your way through the pipe jumps, but some of them i can't just give some strategies except for the second pipe jump that is exactly identical to the pipe jump to the left of it. On this particular pipe you need to jump on the left lip of it to avoid killing the goombas that are next to the pipe. This allows there to be three koopas next to each other later on and you need to land on two of them to despawn one goomba that is after the koopas (normally, there are three goombas, but if you stomp on two koopas previously the 3rd goomba on the right disappears and allows you to not bonk on the vertical row of blocks that are next to the goombas).
  14. After this, we have the significant part of 8-1, the star block. If you do the level perfectly but you don't hit the star block, you will lose 1 framerule or 0.35 seconds from seemingly nowhere. Hitting the star block, makes the flag come down 1 pixel lower, when you touch it, so it takes 1 frame for Mario to reach the castle. That 1 frame is significant to save the framerule. One thing to note here, if you get good judges, you only need to hit the star block to avoid losing time, but if you get bad judges, you need to hit the first pixel of the star block to avoid losing the framerule. Yeah... needless to say, this level has a lot going on. It's hard to imagine all of this just to save 0.35 seconds in one level.
  15.
  16. 8-2: Finally, we get to 8-2, the most important thing to know here are the bullet bill launchers, they fire depending on what framerule you arrive to them on. You can delay on the title screen to account for this. Anyways, the next part is the pipe jump (dubbed "blant"), which is hard at first, but my strategy is to hold left midair, then jump and then hold right again. Make sure to not let go of the run button throughout the blant jump. Finally we have the end of 8-2, which is not too hard but you have to react quite fast to what is happening. Basically, if you did a quick blant, you may need to slow down right before the koopas, or you'll die to them. After that, you need to react fast to the koopa at the staircase at the end, because he can do a few things. Just practice and then you'll get good at reacting fast.
  17.
  18. 8-3: This level is known for having hammer bros all over the place. People say what they do is random; however depending on the framerule you arrive to 8-3, and the enemies you defeat like bullet bills, koopas, and even hammer bros, you can manipulate hammer bros patterns. It's important to know that if you jump into a hammer bro, you need to let go of the jump button, because if Mario is moving downwards, then he takes priority over enemies. The final part is the slowdown at the blocks at the end. If you end the level without slowing down at all, the timer will be 243, but this is a problem due to if the last digit of the timer is a 1, 3, or 6 (a 1 doesn't lose time, sorry), you'll get fireworks, hence losing time. To avoid getting a 243, you need to slow down at the highest block to the right to make the timer tick down to a 242, and it's only then that you can do the final strategy in the level, which is touching the top of the flag instead of the bottom, this is because if you hit the top you'll accelerate faster after dropping down from the flag. This is significant to save the framerule, because if you touch the bottom, you'll miss it by a few frames.
  19.
  20. 8-4: Finally, after all of that we only have one level left, 8-4. This level doesn't rely on framerules, because timing stops the frame you touch the axe. Which means that every frame counts from this point onwards. The stage has a total of 5 rooms.
  21. In the first room, just run and get to the pipe, the only hard part is the jump across the lava pit. You only have 3 frames to full jump without shorting the edge. But you can make it easier by landing on the platform below and jumping from it, you'll sacrifice a few frames, but if you want to play it safe, you can jump off the platform.
  22. In the next room is where things get hard, when you come off the pipe, don't hold the run button because if you hold it midair, you'll make the next trick easier. If you were to hold the run button, you only have 1 frame to jump on the ground without hitting the pipe and losing about a quarter of a second. On top of that, you'll again only have 1 frame most of the time to do the next trick, the walljump. If you don't hold the run button when coming out of the pipe you'll have two frames to jump when you land on the wall of the pipe, and the pixel for landing on it will be much easier to hit. But if you were to do the the frame-perfect jump, you'll have to hit a pixel-perfect + frame-perfect walljump most of the time.
  23. After that, we have the turnaround room, which is similar to the wrong warp in 4-2. You need to scroll the screen to a specific spot to be able to go into a pipe that's closer to the intended one.
  24. Next, we have the water section, its tricky but i can't give you the best strategy for doing it optimally, it depends on you. I can only give you 2 strategies, the first one is to know when to do big swims and tiny swims. If you tap the button normally, you'll swim normally as well, but if you hold the button, you'll swim lower, which is necessary in some spots. And the second strategy is for the water exit, if you're holding right when landing on the ground next to the pipe, Mario will instantly slow down to walking speed, but if you're holding nothing, Mario will take more time to slow down, which in this case makes perfect water exits a million times easier.
  25. We finally got to the end, the last room is very easy most of the time, if you full jump after coming out of the pipe you'll always defeat the hammer bro, without any problems, after that go under the podoboo and the only thing left is Bowser, which depends on what frame you arrive to him on, most of the time, you can get past through him, i recommend going to https://somewes.com to know all of the Bowser patterns in the game.
  26. But anyways, that's all i want to say now. I worked on this for 2 hours straight and i'm spanish so cut me some slack for creating this in english without using a translator. If you have questions feel free to send me an email: asierc1703@gmail.com and also check out my social media:
