- Pokemon Blue any% glitchless (trading route)
- Q: What are you trying to do?
- A: Beat Pokemon Blue as fast as possible without using glitches.
- Q: What are you playing on?
- A: Gambatte-Speedrun, an accurate emulator for Gen 1-2 Pokemon games.
- Q: What Pokemon will you be using?
- A: Snorlax for battles and Mew for HMs.
- Q: How do you get Snorlax and Mew so early without glitches?
- A: By trading them over from another Gen 1-2 game. This is technically the fastest way to beat any Pokemon game without glitches, although it traditionally hasn't been allowed since it makes battles so easy.
- NOTE: I don't have the hardware to actually trade Pokemon legally, so I'll just be hacking in the traded Pokemon for now, and estimating 1 minute of time loss. Attempting real runs of this category probably requires a lot of technical setup.
- Q: Why aren't your Pokemon disobeying you?
- A: Their trainer ID matches mine, so the game doesn't consider them to be traded Pokemon. Any trainer ID in Gen 1 can be RNG manipulated before the start of each run.
- Q: What is the world record?
- A: 1:10:59 (unofficially) by me, using a dated route.
- Q: What is your route like?
- A: In battle, I spam Body Slam and Psychic to OHKO every Pokemon in the run. I turn animations on for two sections because Body Slam is faster to use with animations on than off. I also use Selfdestruct twice to allow me to Rare Candy revive Snorlax into red bar.
- Outside of battle, the route is more interesting. While in the Pokemon Center to trade for Snorlax, I transfer a Soda Pop item using the Pokemon Stadium 2 Color Case feature. This allows all of Route 9 and Rock Tunnel to be skipped, saving many minutes. I also transfer a Poke Doll and some other useful items. And by trading over a Mew with Cut, Fly, and Surf, I'm able to skip Nugget Bridge, Route 25/Bill, the S.S. Anne, the Celadon Fly house, and the Safari Zone.
- I also give Teleport to Mew, which allows me to skip two trainers on Route 6. Snorlax gets the fourth HM (Strength).
- Q: Why use Snorlax instead of a stronger Pokemon like Mewtwo?
- A: Snorlax has the shortest cry in the game and loses minimal time to critical hit text boxes thanks to its low Speed. It also saves time on Champion by OHKOing some bulky Pokemon with Body Slam.
- Q: Why start with Charmander?
- A: The first rival fight is about 10 seconds faster.
