  1. Don't worry about these techniques until you've learned the ones in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh0gfHkUR3s
  2.
  3. 1. When using an item on a Pokemon, such as a TM or a Potion, you should already be holding B during the final text box in the Pokemon menu (e.g., to clear the jingle for "A learned EARTHQUAKE!" or while your Pokemon's HP is going up). If you try to release B and then hold it again to exit the bag, it won't work. But if you continue holding B and then hold any directional input, the directional input will reapply the B input to exit the bag. Now you're on the main menu, which can be closed with a B or Start input (not directionals). Since the game has just executed a B input, it won't execute another immediately. So, if your controller can manage it, try closing the bag with Start. It's faster.
  4.
  5. So the whole sequence looks like this:
  6. "A learned EARTHQUAKE!" --> hold B during jingle
  7. Screen fades to white --> continue holding B, and hold a directional input
  8. Bag closes --> hold Start
  9.
  10. I use this technique in the following places:
  11. - Changing options after Brock (just B + Start; no directionals)
  12. - Moon Stone menu (hold B during evolution cutscene)
  13. - Nugget Bridge candy menu
  14. - Vermilion Cut menu (just B + directional after teaching Cut)
  15. - Fly menu (just B + directional after teaching Rock Slide)
  16. - EQ menu
  17. - Pre-Cinnabar candy menu
  18. - All heal and Elixer menus
  19.
  20. 2. Whenever a Pokemon's cry plays in battle, buffer the next action, if applicable. For example, if you need to select a move, hold A during the cry to frame perfectly reach the FIGHT menu. If you need to use an item, hold down+A (and if the item is in slot 1, release down and hold B; if it's in slot 2, continue holding down and hold B). If you're in red bar and the cries are skipped, you can still buffer; you just need to begin holding the desired buttons after the full "sent out" is displayed.
  21.
  22. A few good places to try this technique:
  23. - Nugget Bridge (buffering FIGHT while not in red bar)
  24. - Rock Tunnel (buffering FIGHT in red bar)
  25. - The whole Poke Flute split (buffering ITEM when using X Accs and Poke Doll)
  26. - Elite Four (buffering slot 2 X Acc on Bruno and Champion; Lorelei is tricky)
  27.
  28. You can also buffer inputs in battle while a Pokemon's HP bar is going down. You can get good practice with this on Rival 1 and Route 1.
  29.
  30. 3. We've known about buffering text boxes with jingles for a while, but thanks to RNG manipulation, we now know that regular text boxes have a 3-4 frame window for buffering. So if you hold A or B up to 3 frames before the end of a text box, you'll close it frame perfectly. This is faster than mashing and easier on the hands. However, since the window is relatively small, it requires practice to save time. Try doing this during the intro and Oak's Lab, and in places where you can use audio cues for the buffer windows, such as in Bill's house.

  32. 4. When moving from slot 2 to 4 in the bag, press left, right or Start immediately after down. When moving from slot 1 to 4, press left, then Start, then left or right. This is a very difficult technique if you're not on keyboard, but it does save time over counting down inputs. Credit to Stringflow for discovering it.
