- I spent a few hours trying to make a face shield for my wife to use at work during the pandemic.
- I used some small acrylic rectangles, kerf cut plywood strips and a suspension harness from an old hard hat.
- I failed on my first two attempts, but I was able to finally attach the acrylic/plywood strip to the hard hat suspension on my 3rd try, around midnight. Then, I attached a strip of foam to the inside of the suspension as a forehead pad with some 5 minute epoxy.
- I got it all clamped you and set aside to dry, feeling satisfied that I had overcome the problem and had prevailed. Just before bed, I decided to peel off the protective plastic sheet from the acrylic...
- ...And it’s opaque. You can’t fucking see SHIT through it. It’s useless.
- TL;DR I spent HOURS making a face shield for my wife and you can’t see through it.
