The landscaping software is fairly easy to use, and we were able to finish a pretty fancy landscape design within the hour. There are many features to choose from, and the objects and appliances all comply with the landscape layout that you choose. For example, when you create sidewalk paths on hills or in depressions, the sidewalk will follow those changes in topography. As we used the landscaping software, we found that was difficult to be able to see the view we wanted quickly.

The previous version of this landscaping software was compatible with Windows Vista but not Windows 7. When HGTV released version three, it made the landscaping software compatible with Windows 7. If you have a Mac, you can still design your HGTV dream home; this software is also available for Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

The landscaping tools for the software proved to be very efficient. Once you have created the landscaping features, you can quickly modify them by clicking and dragging them to the desired position or to new measurements.

The 3D Real View rendering is very impressive. It wasn't just the finalized view that we liked so much, but the options it gave us. We could choose any time, any date and almost any major city, and the landscaping software would automatically position the sun in the sky where you would see it if it were real. This way you can accurately envision how the lighting will appear in and around your house.

The Plant Encyclopedia that comes with this landscaping software will provide you with information about which plants will thrive in your geographic area. It also lists how much water and what lighting conditions each plant needs. You can also use a tool that allows you to see what seasonal changes will occur to the plants you've selected. The leaves won't change colors, but you'll know which trees shed their leaves and when. This HGTV landscaping software also allows you to adjust how old the plants are so you can see what they will look like as they mature.

Seeing slopes and dimensions can be tough when dealing with landscaping software, which is why HGTV has implemented the grid view. The grid view gives you an outline of the landscape. Slopes and trenches are discernable through this view.

One of the things with which we were disappointed is that you can't construct diagonal walls with this landscaping software. Some of the building tools are limited to only making straight lines at 90-degree angles. The landscaping tools work well, but it takes some practice to utilize them fully.
