Weapons and/or Devil Fruit: Rumors circulate about the most useless type of Devil Fruit: Aquatic Zoans. Those unfortunate enough to consume one are turned into hybrids of aquatic creatures, requiring water on their gills... but being subject to all Devil Fruit weaknesses. If these rumors are true, it goes without saying that Craig has consumed the Octo-Octo Fruit, Model Blue Ring. A poisonous bite, the ability to spray foul-smelling ink, highly dextrous tentacles stemming from his face and body, and constant talk of it being safe to smoke due to having gills would lend credence to these rumors. Of course, he knows how to take advantage of the tentacles growing from his face in combat, wielding percussion revolvers in five of them while using three to reload and cock the weapons. They're a lot less lethal than typical guns, with low penetrating power in keeping with his attempt to adhere to the Hippocratic Oath even as a criminal. He's an able surgeon, using his tentacles to assist in surgery, and is vaguely aware of the concept of acupressure- though he's more given to relying on proven techniques. Due to a quirk of an octopus's eye, his pupils stay horizontal at all times- allowing him to perform incredible acrobatic feats and still aim reliably in a style he calls "Octopus Gun Kata."

History: Craig Calamari isn't his real name. That's about the only thing people can agree about the mysterious Butcher. A surgeon from the South Blue, he appeared seemingly from nowhere and operates as a back-alley doctor. He performs impossible surgeries alone, takes his payment, and vanishes, reappearing on a distant island for the next operation. If he's a Marine, he's unusually lenient with pirates. If he's a pirate, he's awfully sympathetic to Marines. If he's a human, nobody's seen his real face, and if he's a fishman, nobody's ever heard of a blue-ring octopus studying to be a surgeon.

The truth is something out of a martial arts movie. Craig Calamari's real identity is the fishman Takotaro Kraken, heir to the Blue Ring Assassination Fist technique. A brutal ninja school using natural venom and pressure point strikes to wear away at the enemy, it is a style where every strike has the potential to kill your foes. Of course, Takotaro was always a gentle soul, even during the training. He refused to kill during practice, leading other members of the school to the conclusion that they would become heir if they could kill him. This wasn't true, of course, but Takotaro found the style barbaric and the continuous failed attempts on his life tedious. He decided to pursue a career in medicine, leaving home at a young age to study with doctors from pirate crews and back-alley clinics around the world and become a doctor himself. Despite leaving, he's constantly beset by assassins trying to eliminate the heir of the Blue Ring School, whether in hopes of becoming heir themselves or eliminating the future head of a rival clan. While studying on a pirate ship, the marksman got tired of waking up in the dead of night to save him and taught him how to use guns.

In spite of what cliche dictates, none of the assasins have been sent by his family. In fact, his father accepts this decision- a back-alley doctor is a respectable occupation, while still being illegal enough not to ruin the family's underworld cred. Until the day his son returns to take his place as head of the ninja clan, he's proud of his son's choice to become a doctor.
