Irony is the ultimate manifestation of the fear of failure and rejection
It's viable but not admirable
It it much more admirable to be sincere and direct

The real question is: how long will it last before you begin to believe it? The answer is eventually. . . and that is good enough for most. If you aren't most then why should irony and sincerity matter? After all, does irony not mask a sincere intention?
