- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Pokémon Emerald: Randomized Glitchless Nuzlocke Race Rules =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
- These Rules are written with the intent of being used for competitive races (specifically on http://speedrunslive.com). The typical race is "3 Badges Race" and each entrant has a DIFFERENT
- randomized ROM; however the rules should be valid for any goal and a standardized ROM.
- 1) Only the first Pokémon in each area is catchable (only applicable after receiving Pokéballs)
- 1a) If you already have that Pokémon, you may catch a different one instead
- 1b) For caves: floors with a unique set of Pokémon are considered to be unique areas
- 2) A fainted Pokémon is considered "dead", you cannot use it again for any reason
- 3) PokéCenters act as Save Points; you may not save anywhere else
- 4) In the event of a blackout: hard reset, load last save, and "kill" one of your party Pokémon
- 4a) If you only have 1 Pokémon in your party, you don't need to "kill" anything
- 4b) If you lose to Liza & Tate (7th Gym Leaders), raise the minimum to 2 for 4a
- 5) All entrants have to use the same setup (Emulator, Base ROM) to minize differences in speed
- 6) Exploiting, Cheating, Bug-Using or whatever you call it:
- 6a) It is forbidden to use any kind of cheat or glitch (exploiting game machinics) during the game
- 6b) It is also forbidden to use the Speed-Key (Turbo) of your Emulator to accellerate your ROM
- *Optional*
- All Pokémon must be nicknamed
- Feel free to customize the rules, you can find more here:

- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Setup =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
- This is hopefully noob-proof. This is for Windows, it should be VERY similar for Mac.
- Things you'll need prior to installation:
- - Java (http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1)
- - an unarchiver (http://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0)
- - VBA Link 1.8 (http://www.vbalink.info/download-gba-emulator.htm)
- - Pokémon Emerald Version ROM (unsupplied)
- 1) Download the Pokémon Emerald Randomizer, found here: http://artemis251.fobby.net/downloads/emerald/
- 2) Open the downloaded .7zip file with WinRAR and drag the contained .jar file to your Desktop
- 3) Open the Randomizer.jar file with Java(TM) Platform SE Binary. This should launch the program.
- 4) Click on File -> Open and select your Pokémon Emerald Version ROM
- 5) Change all 3 Starter Slots to "Random" (at the top), leave "Hold Item" blank,
- and set "Wild Pokemon" to "Completely Random"
- 6) Click on File -> Save As and save the file (Preferably "Ranlocke" on the Desktop)
- 7) Open VBA and click on Options -> Emulator -> Save Type, select 128 Flash
- 8) Click on File -> Open and select your file created in Step 6
- *Optional but Recommended*
- At the main menu of the game, select Options and change Text Speed to Fast, Battle Scene to Off
- TROUBLESHOOTING:
- - The most common error takes place in step 7. Not setting the Save Type can result in a black screen.
- - If Step 7 is correct and you still receive a black screen, it may be your ROM. Try the un-randomized ROM if you have it, if that works then re-randomize your ROM and make sure it has the .gba extension. If it still doesn't work, find a different ROM.
- - Issues with the Randomizer.jar are usually caused by Java, you may want to reinstall Java and restart your computer.
- - Other issues: Honestly, I can't recommend help beyond "Reinstall and Retry". I'm sorry T_T
