  1. Concerning the /vg/ OP's recommended modlist for Kenshi! - Now an updated version "Kept you Waiting Edition"
  2.
  3. -Foreword-
  4. Kenshi is a cool game and all, but it has flaws, both in its design and in gameplay
  5. Mods can be used to alleviate these issues
  6. Now we'll be going round a few recommended/big mods that you should/could check out
  7. I'm gonna make this list semi-exhaustive
  8.
  9. !DO REMEMBER!
  10. when istalling mods that add locations/shops/ect. DO import your save
  11.
  12. -Total Overhaul Mods-
  13. in general these mods are a pre-packaged deal with limited compatibility, however sometimes they also attempt to do things beyond what other mods do, so do test them out if you're willing to shoulder the numerous downsides
  14.
  15. *Genesis Mod*
  16. Created by a few people trying to make a total overhaul together, issue is, most of the guys in there have since left the project leaving their Community Manager "Atlas" to pick up the slack, that Community Manager now comes up on /keng/ from time to time to argue randomly
  17. While it does remove some Waystations, freeing up the spot for some bases, it does however place some other towns in other areas, towns that don't even have shops in them
  18. Which is essentially what Genesis is: A Mixed Bag
  19. Is currently the most popular Total Overhaul Mod, though it does have issues with updating, the author of it being busy for a year untangling the tech tree
  20. Hope he manages to turn his rep around for the better in this thread
  21.
  22. *Universal Wasteland Expansion*
  23. UWE Created by "Treadlightly" is an interesting alternative to Genesis, it's much more compatible in general, allowing for customisation generally unmatched regarding Total Overhaul Mods, in addition, several new armours and creatures have been added, alongside new factions. it does however have its downsides. while there are several new factions added, most of them are simply reskins of the pre-existing factions with only surface level adjustments and wordswaps. Same thing regarding the numerous armours and creatures added, most of them are reskins. In addition the added dialogue is generally quite dodgy, utilising the fairly crude and unsophisticated version of the /WORDSWAP/ system which results in your character being treated very rudely by the shop guards. Overall it's not the worst, but there's a lot of improvement there
  24. Unfortunately "Treadlightly" doesn't take to criticism very well
  25.
  26. *Odyssey*
  27. Created by "Amok Harvest" also called "Boomer" on the /keng/ thread, in general it strives to do Genesis, but better.
  28. It adds a lot of unique creatures with custom animations, Quests and a rep system where you can get recognised as "That one Guy who hates the status quo" also for some reason has a questline for United City Heroes
  29. Generally cool stuff in it, though not my thing personally
  30. Guy updates it on a semi-regular basis, so not like it's a piece of abandonware
  31.
  32. *Lost in the Ashlands*
  33. Mod created by "Boron" is the inspiration for many of Odyssey's features, the creator of it plans on some major cool stuff innit, but for now hasn't really released much. Good stuff incomming though!
  34. Boron is generally a skilled modeller and can very easily make Kenshi buildings
  35. The mod will include guns with sound effects and other cool stuph, like cities stacked on cities, once it releases that is...
  36.
  37. -Vanilla + Type Mods-
  38. These here mods won't impact your game all that much, generally free from any major changes, keeping instead to their turf, won't look all that off when trying to keep to Kenshi aesthetic
  39.
  40. *Bouncing Boobs*
  41. As the name implies, it adds a real bounce to your chest
  42.
  43. *Dog Backpack/Animal Backpacks*
  44. As name implies, adds Backpack options to more animals, convinient to have
  45.
  46. *Extended Camping/Advanced Camping*
  47. Expands temporary camping options, good for roleplay, don't be dissuaded by Advanced Camping having the mark of Atlas on it, the thing was made by "Azazells", you making an Overhaul mod, feel free to use his stuff if you credit him correctly
  48.
  49. *Guardpost*
  50. Allows you to set up a location where your "Guards" will stand around, useful to have for Base Design
  51.
  52. *Different Map Mods*
  53. There are several ones, generally feel free to pick and choose what you'll find most useful
  54.
  55. *Interactive World*
  56. Adds more camping options, allows you to interact with the world more, generally good stuff
  57.
  58. *Faction Furniture*
  59. Made by "Cattrina" adds furniture swaps for different factions, allowing for each one to have an unique furniture design, worth checking out, if only for the fluff, feel free to check out other mods, generally nothing too bad I guess
  60.
  61. *Lively Player Town AI*
  62. Both this and the “Player Town Settlers” mod add the ability to entice different NPCs to join your town. With this mod you can also in turn give these NPCs many different passive jobs like patrolling, disposing of corpses, following your characters etc. For example I had a Wandering Assassin just randomly pass by and join my outpost the other day, and she still lives there to this day. Though for this alternative to work you have to talk with them once they’re within your town’s area of influence. The other method involves talking with regular recruits while in stealth mode. The NPCs also seem to buy from your shopping counters and can be dismissed from your base, or invited into your real crew whenever you want. Really quite a comfy, immersive mod, though it can also make the game easier because you’re actually able to invite some really high-leveled NPCs into your active crew, and they also act as free NPC guards to your town.
  63.
  64. **WARNING: Possibly a bit buggy when it comes to re-recruiting mercenaries whose contracts have ended and start wandering your town aimlessly, other NPCs like the Caravans/nomads etc. are not affected at all. Could be the fault of a mod conflict or the “Player Town Settlers” mod.
  65.
  66. *Kaizo*
  67. Created by "セス (Ѕϵϯћ)" it is an Overhaul mod that adds some more dialogues, worldstates and interactions you can have with the world of Kenshi, mind you, mod hasn't been updated for a while now, yet it still remains a welcome staple in the community. You should generally put it low-ish at the load order, as it is quite heavy, quoth the mod author
  68.
  69. *Legendary of Kenshi*
  70. Created by a couple of people, it makes the game more difficult, increasing the challenge in defeating factions, new weapons and armour have been added for the characters of Kenshi with the purpose of making defeating a faction more of a challenge
  71. Install if you feel like things are going too smoothly
  72.
  73. *256 Character Limit*
  74. It's a mod that as advertised, increases the limit of characters in your party to 256, easy to grasp
  75.
  76. *[xX] Attack Slots*
  77. Increases the default combat limitation (from 1 to 3) where a single unit can only enter battle with a single opponent at a time. This mod makes soloing much harder because you will get hit far more often when you’re outnumbered. At the same time it adds to the tactical dimension of the game, i.e. surrounding enemies/singling out weaker opponents becomes more useful, making it easier to fight in certain situations etc.
  78. the higher the [X] the more people can hit you at the same time
  79.
  80. *Dark UI*
  81. a classic UI mod, people really like it for some reason, though you can pick whatever you want
  82.
  83. *Reduced Weather Effects*
  84. If you're bothered by the rainfall in Vain, this mods makes it a bit more transparent, so you can see things easier
  85.
  86. *Wanted Posters*
  87. Adds new textures for the Wanted Poster icons, now you can see a drawn picture of your target
  88.
  89. *KPM Performance Particles*
  90. Converts the particle format from PNG to DDS, improving the performance
  91.
  92. *Less Clutter xX*
  93. Reduces the ammount of Trees/Rocks/Vines/Other stuph in Kenshi, improving the performance
  94.
  95. *Waystations Plus*
  96. Adds more Waystations to the world of Kenshi, in case you feel as if there's not enough of those
  97.
  98. *Forgotten Buildings and More Building*
  99. Allows access to the buildings available in Kenshi Beta, for your own personal usage, More Building allows for some additional aesthetic options, but if you want a more vanilla feel, you pick forgotten buildings
  100.
  101. *Dyer's Guild*
  102. Opens up 17 Dyers Shop location where you can dye your armours by placing them on appropriate characters, good way of keeping your faction fashionable
  103.
  104. *Slopeless*
  105. An important quality of life mod, allows you to place buildings much easier by letting you Level Buildings without the use of Dev Tools, great for base building
  106.
  107. *Better Mercenaries*
  108. Adds the ability to hire mercenaries for longer than the default 2 days (or 7 for base-guarding duties) at a time. In fact, you can hire them indefinitely, but it also costs more accordingly. Not really necessary, nor immersion/balance breaking, but really convenient if you like hiring mercenaries. Means you don’t have to recruit them again every 2 days once their contract ends.
  109.
  110. *More Bounties*
  111. Gives random small bounties to random enemies, makes being a bounty hunter way more feasible in Kenshi
  112.
  113. *Interesting Recruits!*
  114. You want some more unique-ish recruits? Here you go!
  115.
  116. *Pocket Change*
  117. Loot enemies for their lunch money, nuff said
  118.
  119. *Race Blood*
  120. Now your Shek will bleed blue and Hivers bleed Yellow, a small visual difference, but still nice to have
  121.
  122. *Reactive World*
  123. A timeless classic, new worldstates for everyone! Mind you, it's very incompatible with most Total Overhaul Mods, but still, worth adding to your collection
  124.
  125. *Recruit Prisoners*
  126. While the mod does have issues (Badly written dialogue) it does allow you to hire the people you've captured, it's therefore a timeless classic
  127.
  128. *Tame Beasties*
  129. Does the same thing Recruit Prisoners does, except with animals, yey!
  130.
  131. *Taxman Relations Plus*
  132. Now you have a reason to be a faithful Taxpayer
  133.
  134. *Different Training Mods*
  135. If you wanna avoid the grind, go right ahead
  136.
  137. *Let's Talk*
  138. Makes it possible for unique single-time conversations amongst your recruits to reappear. Can be nice as it’s easy to miss out on certain comfy banter if you often run the game at 3x speed.
  139.
  140. *Faces Plus*
  141. Available on Nexus, adds a wider variety of random faces you can add to your characters, great for customisation, doesn't come with custom races like "Radiant Faces" does, much more straightforward, no shizzle
  142.
  143. *Ashigaru Armour, Peasant Tunic and Nomad Pants*
  144. Made by "Miliika" good pieces of clothing that fit the general Kenshi Aesthetic, good stuff
  145.
  146. *Drifter's Leather Hot Pants*
  147. Show some leg, willya?
  148.
  149. *Combat Boots*
  150. Adds some more boot options, since Vanilla Kenshi is very much lacking in shoewear
  151.
  152. *Hives/Shrieking Bandits/Cannibals Expanded and Crossbow Expansion*
  153. Made by "Microwaved Roe", these mods expand the pre existing factions of Cannibals, Hivers and Shrieking Bandits by giving them high quality stylish armour and weapons, Giving each of those factions an unique aesthetic separate from the rest of the world, great stuff!
  154. Crossbow Expansion on the other hand adds some more Crossbow options, including a buzzsaw lobber, how cool is that?
  155. Overall I recommend
  156.
  157. *Type 389/Thrashers/Processor Unit/Hazards Unit/Sailbacks*
  158. Mods made by "Idea Dork" Generally expanding on the Skeletons somewhat, Type 389 is a sleeker skeleton, Thrashers are bipedal weapon platforms that make entering skeleton land into a bit of a threat, Processor Units are a nice corpse disposal creature/walking inventory space and Sailbacks are robotic beasts of burden, very fun mods, unique aesthetic, very fitting. You can also check his other mods, generally good stuff
  159.
  160. -Roughly Lore-ish Friendly Mods-
  161. The connection is a bit more tenuous, but still, worth checking out, heck you might find these mods fitting Kenshi still
  162.
  163. *Ikahurula mods*
  164. Ika has made a lot of mods that add both new races, armour, small wandering factions, weapons, worldstates and other crazy Stuph
  165. What I would certainly recommend is his "Limb Based Skeleton" series, adding specialised Skeletons to the world, good stuff! Unfortunately his weapon mod adds both the "Luxury Grade", "Oni Castle" and the "Triangle Bandits" which aren't all that liked here, I guess...
  166. Still, generally good stuff, do recommend, check him out
  167.
  168. *Healing Pods*
  169. So, you've reached the top tier of tech, but your beds remain quite mid? No worries, with this mod you'll be able to rapidly heal your characters, hell you even get a hurting pod that damages them instead!
  170. Crazy stuff!
  171.
  172. *Old Ironsides/Waste Fiends/Waste Tyrants*
  173. Mods created by Hapless, a very skilled individual, generally very nice looking creatures with unique animations, Old Ironsides are by far the most impressive, having a lot of animations and combat utility (imagine WH40K Castellan Robots) Waste Fiends are those little raptor dudes and Tyrants are those T-Rex looking Fellas.
  174. DO KEEP IN MIND, that Waste Tyrants are considered as generally "Unifinished" having spawn issues
  175. You can also check his other mods, such as Shoddy Firearms, Carved Prosthetics or Iron Fortress Armour. Generally good stuff
  176. also the origin of the PAIN RAPTOR is an edited version of his Waste Fiend, Now you know
  177.
  178. *The Arachnids - Faction and Armour/Ouroboros Armor and Ouroboros Empire Faction*
  179. Created by Kit, these are a mid-late game faction to take on in your playthough, having some really nice looking pieces of armour.
  180. I would also recommend checking out his other standout mods, such as the "Ouroboros Armor and Ouroboros Empire Faction" which adds a nice High Tech faction, "OuroTech Robots" to go alongside them, "Fist Weapons of Kenshi" which are a thing and his other mods, generally good stuff
  181.
  182. *Warmaidens*
  183. Mod that adds powerful female sellswords to the game, a weird all female death cult, your opinion might vary, but generally came recommended. They have a faction capital near Admang
  184.
  185. *Antiquity Sheks*
  186. Speaking of Admang, this here mod made by "Ninya" adds a lot of new Shek armours and weapons inspired by old cultures of Carthage and other similar places
  187. You've got Shek Jewellery, Shek Trading Caravans, Shek Clothing, Shek Armours, Shek Weapons! Everything for you and your Shek needs!
  188. Also Blazing Bull has an unique armour piece with a face on it, you can even mention it to him if you keep him inside of a cage, good stuff
  189. Very recommend!
  190.
  191. *Mods by Mogwai*
  192. Mogwai has been releasing a lot of cool stuff to Kenshi, including a new Concept art skeleton, Rare skeleton types, a cat beast, a race of cat people, Praying Mantises, two headed Doggos and more!
  193. Generally a good up and comming modder, do check his stuff out
  194.
  195. -Lore Unfriendly Mods-
  196. These ones will fit mostly if your autism allows for it, your mileage may vary
  197.
  198. *Fogmen to Fugmen*
  199. An absolutely essential mod for your aesthetic needs, has compatibility issues with the Faces Plus (new Fogmen faces in Faces Plus cause aesthetic issues) Replaces Fogmen with Supurdo Sparde, authentic dialogue included
  200. :-DDDD
  201.
  202. *2B Mod*
  203. Don't pick the Mopisgone Version, Pick the other one
  204. Adds 2B from Nier Automata, the Android Girl with a big round butt, great stuff
  205.

  207. Adds everyone's favourite Nandroid into Kenshi, Now you can pair her up with the 2B and have cute robot girl adventures everywhere!
  208.
  209. *Female Android*
  210. You do like Robot Girls, don'cha Anon? Well good thing there's more where that came from!
  211. This mod is made by AGO, the guy behind such amazing mods as "Bouncing Chest, More Combat Animations and More Idle Animations, generally good stuff, you can totes check the guy out no worries
  212.
  213. *Neeko for Kenshi*
  214. I don't play League of Legends, so I'm pretty baffled, but hey, it's here. Might be causing issues for you if you're running some of AGO's mods, but hey, easily amendable in Blender if you know what to do
  215.
  216. *Steady the Clown*
  217. Adds Steady the Clown to Clownsteady, it's an essential mod
  218. Why create a town called a Clownsteady if there's no Clowns in it?
  219. Important mod!
  220. Remember!
  221.
  222. *Yukkuri Reimu*
  223. I am speechless, right now can't find the mod anywhere on the workshop, might want to ask an anon for a backed up version of the mod
  224.
  225. *Grineer Mod*
  226. A work in progress mod that adds Grineer into Kenshi, Contrary to its name contains Grineer, Corpus and Infested along with a little secret faction. If you like Warframe Aesthetic, some new buildings and a SHITTON of guns and Armour, you might enjoy this
  227. Grineer are a new sub-race of humans that are just kinda more ugly than regular people, better for fighting, somewhere in the middle between Shek and Humans
  228.
  229. *Martial Village*
  230. It's a mod that adds a village of martial artists, has its own quest and other cool stuff
  231.

  237.
  238. *EVA mod*
  239. You've clearly seen the pictures of Warboss Wulff on this thread, have you?
  240. Well, Warboss Wulff comes from that very mod, it adds massive musclegirls as an endgame faction to wreck your stuff, so hey, cool stuff eh?
  241. mega.nz/folder/6ZBmADJK#8uL2GFZYoLgdS6kBV0DJfA
