Riptide 2023

Here's a list of some interesting sets in pools at Riptide. Bold ones are ones I REALLY think should be streamed, either due to being hype matchups or featuring new / uncommon players.

Wave G
WR1 matchups (if needed):

  • G1 H: GammaStar (116, Pomme) vs VariableVacancy.com (141, Mollo) - a nice workshop matchup to start us off?
  • G2 H: OffBeat (117, Maypul) vs Gorklax (140, Clairen) - Tennessee vs Alabama, two under-represented states
  • G2 L: Guinness (108, Kragg) vs TG (149, Elliana)

WR2 matchups:

  • G1 O: Zora (61, Maypul) vs Bagel is Friend (68, Maypul) - old-school Maypul vs new-school Maypul
  • G2 T: Rakai (53, Wrastor) vs Bicycle (76, Orcane)
  • G2 V: ThrownOrc (44, Wrastor) vs Sethix (85, Forsburn) - there's some BIG upset potential here; Sethix is an online grinder who has improved very quickly in 2023, including wins over Qunne, Yeggy, HealsGood, Spyker, JLindy, mow_kitty, humanlime, and more

WR3 matchups:

  • G2 X: Onesy (28, Kragg) vs Spyker (37, Forsburn) - upset potential, and generally should be a good set
  • G1 Y: Sparx21 (20, Elliana) vs Vecho (45, Forsburn)

Wave H
WR1 matchups:

  • H1 H: Cobalt (115, Elliana) vs MusicGuyFade (142, Hodan) - MusicGuyFade is a decent Ohio local player, and it's a rare matchup; Cobalt has also leveled up in 2023
  • H2 L: Jacey (107, Mollo/Kragg/Hodan/???) vs Heathen (150, Kragg/Clairen?) - Jacey is another strong Ohio local player, first major

WR2 matchups:

  • H2 P: Johann (59, Orcane?) vs Dingodial (70, Pomme) - Johann is a wildcard, entered a few locals pre-COVID (under the tag Vorst) but suddenly came back in August 2023 and got 1st 2nd 1st at three Ohio locals including taking a tournament over HealsGood, would be great to get them on stream
  • H1 S: JohnJake (51, Forsburn) vs Action Hawk (78, Sylvanos) - upset potential, and winner probably gets top 48 automatically due to Bullets DQ
  • H2 T: Breadstick (54, Orcane/Absa) vs Luca (75, Maypul)

WR3 matchups:

  • H1 W: Lattim (30, Maypul/???) vs Qunne (35, Hodan) - HUGE upset potential, and Qunne's first offline appearance
  • H2 X: Lucius (27, Ranno) vs Pity (38, Zetterburn)
  • H1 Y: elkiies (19, Maypul/???) vs Tabski (46, Pomme) - we haven't seen Tabski offline in almost a year, and it'd be nice to get some high level Pomme gameplay on stream; some upset potential as well

Wave I
WR1 matchups:

  • I2 A: LokiNB (122, Clairen???) vs Aalaxel (135, Sylvanos???) - two wildcards with few (or no) recent results, sounds like a good set to start off the wave; LokiNB's first local?
  • I2 L: Staypuft (106, Ranno) vs Squiggs (151, Kragg) - it's rare to see Staypuft offline

WR2 matchups:

  • I1 O: Stev (63, Kragg) vs jayson (66, Ranno) - Stev, aka Steveie, aka Diceroll, has never been to an out-of-region major before, and this set could definitely go either way
  • I2 T: Pbj702 (55, Kragg) vs scooter388 (74, Kragg) - this is Pbj's first local, and scooter is really good at the Kragg ditto, should be a good set
  • I2 V: Tricki3 (42, Etalus) vs Joe Cool (87, Ranno) - Joe Cool, previously BowlingKing, has improved quite a bit in 2023, and neither player goes to many majors

WR3 matchups:

  • I2 X: Games & Flames (26, Ori) vs w0wells (39, Wrastor)
  • I1 Y: Danzello (18, Zetterburn) vs Refrain (47, Clairen) - Refrain has recent upsets over players like Akashi and Spyker; there's definitely a chance for an upset here

Wave J
WR1 matchups:

  • J1 A: NoName (128, Ranno) vs shenangelo (129, Orcane) - two underdogs, both of whom have an argument for being somewhat underseeded; probably the best round 1 match in ANY pool
  • J2 H: Mischief Man (120, Etalus/???) vs Revilo2112 (137, Forsburn???) - Mischief Man previously went by GamerDad, he's an Indiana player who has decent in-region results in 2023; more importantly, Revilo is an all-time top 10 Slap City player (may even be as high as #2 currently), so that's a big reason to stream this set

WR2 matchups:

  • J1 O: T. Richard (64, Maypul) vs ColossalMini (65, Kragg) - pretty sure this is Mini's first offline major? he had a couple local appearances before COVID, but no majors; it would be nice to get him on stream, considering how long he has been in the community, plus his playstyle is fun to watch
  • J2 P: Geez (57, SK) vs Jubilo (72, Zetterburn) - Geez is a crowd favorite, and I feel like Jubilo deserves a chance on stream after how well he did at Hitfall 2 without getting a single streamed match (beat Jules and NME, went game 5 vs ZeeBee off-stream, then got 3rd in Redemption)
  • J2 U: Ahntye (24, Ori) vs TAILSEP (105, Wrastor) - TAILSEP kinda fell off locally after trying to switch to B0XX controller, but prior to that he had taken games off players like ZeeBee and kusi at offline majors; could be some upset potential, or at least a good set

WR3 matchups:

  • J1 W: Ateozc (32, Olympia?) vs Subserial (33, ???) - two players we haven't seen much of lately, and they're only one seed apart, seems like a must watch set
  • Every single WR3 match in Wave J sounds really exciting except CakeAssault vs. his victim, so take your picks from the rest of them. My second top pick would be J2 X, Sawtooth (25, Sylvanos) vs Omar (40, SK), but they all seem like fun sets.
