- OS X 10.10 Yosemite Dev Preview 4 release notes

- Apple has just seeded OS X 10.10 Yosemite Developer Preview 4 along with release notes explaining the changes and not to use the beta software within a commercial environment. As per normal, users will need to back up their data and Apple warn developers won’t be able to downgrade to a previous system.

- Installation Known Issue – Migrating from a Mac running Yosemite Developer Preview to another Mac running Yosemite Developer 4 using Wi-Fi or ethernet may not work.
- CloudKit Note – All public CloudKit databases are scheduled to be emptied on Tuesday, July 22nd.
- Extensions Known Issue – Finder Sync extensions may not function correctly.
- Family Sharing Known Issues:
- - Shared purchase history page on Mac App Store and iOS App Store are disabled.
- - Items already owned by family members must be re-downloaded from the Purchased page (not Store pages) to get them free of additional charge.
- Finder Known Issues:
- - Some graphical corruption may be visible when using Icon View in Finder.
- - When in list view, sorting alphabetically may not produce the expected results.
- Handoff Known Issues:
- - Searches for directions and places of interest in Maps may not be available for handoff on another device.
- - Resuming Mail drafts between Macs will not properly will not remove (or dismiss) the draft from the source Mac.
- - NSUserActivity payloads may not transfer successfully between apps using handoff if running on two machines without an active internet connection.
- - Trying to resume searches or directions from an iOS device to your Mac may not complete successfully.
- iBooks Known Issue:
- - Series books that have not been purchased may appear on the bookshelf after upgrading to Developer Preview 4. These books will not open.
- iCloud Known Issues:
- - Turning on iCloud Keychain may not successfully enable the service.
- - When enabling iCloud Keychain for the first time with an existing iCloud account, you may be prompted to create a new PIN.
- iCloud Drive – Notes
- - With the release of OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 4, iCloud Drive, Mail Drop, Safari history, and Call history will stop syncing on earlier seeds.
- - iCloud Drive can be re-enabled from Setup Assistant after upgrade. If you choose to store your documents in iCloud Drive, your Documents & Data will automatically be copied to iCloud Drive. iCloud Drive will not update across earlier seeds or operating systems.
- - iCloud Documents & Data created with OS X Yosemite Developer Preview will not sync with with Documents and Data managed with iOS 7, OS X Mavericks, or earlier operating systems.
- - The UI for managing iCloud Documents & Data does not show the documents and data for iOS 8 Beta and OS X Yosemite Developer Preview. It only shows the documents and data synced with previous operating systems.
- - Changes to iCloud Documents & Data in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote on Macs using OS X Yosemite Developer Preview are only available on other devices using OS X Yosemite Developer Preview or iOS 8.0 beta. Any changes from devices using earlier versions of OS X or iOS will not be available. Changes will also not be visible in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote on iCloud.com.
- iCloud Drive – Known Issue
- - Some account password prompts may request the same login information several times before dismissing.
- Aperture Notes – Only Aperture 3.5.1 will run on OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 4. Older versions of Aperture will not launch.
- Aperture Known Issues:
- - It may not be possible to enable My Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Sharing if both iPhoto and Aperture are present on the system.
- - Text and other UI elements such as checkboxes and radio buttons may be clipped or not display properly.
- - Importing and exporting images, adjustments, and book PDF generation may be slower.
- - Thumbnails and images may occasionally be out of sync when in Split Browser mode.
- - Selecting an image to use as a watermark may not work correctly.
- - Secondary Viewer may disappear after toggling mirroring on/off.
- - Printing a book to Preview from the local printing dialog may result in an error.
- - Thumbnails of newly imported PDFs may temporarily show incorrect color.
- - Adjustment and zoom sliders may not respond to single clicks and need to be dragged to operate.
- - Leica Monochrom RAW images are not supported.
- iPhoto Note – Only iPhoto 9.5.1 will run on OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 4. Older versions of iPhoto will not launch.
- iPhoto Known Issues:
- - It may not be possible to enable My Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Sharing if both iPhoto and Aperture are present on the system.
- - Text and other UI elements such as checkboxes and radio buttons may be clipped or not display properly.
- - Image may appear black when entering Edit mode.
- - Application window may not be restored to its original size after exiting Full Screen view.
- Markup Known Issues:
- - Creation of a signature using the trackpad may not work.
- - The Color Picker may not allow color selection.
- Phone Calls Known Issues:
- - Macs connected to a network via both ethernet and WiFi may sometimes fail to connect to an iPhone on the same WiFi network.
- - Declining a call on one Mac may not decline the call on all other devices.
- Safari Notes:
- - Subpixel rendering is now on by default for all web content. Web sites or in-app web views with extremely tight design constraints may render differently.
- - In OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 4, CSS object model getters Element.client{Left,Top,Width,Height} and Element.offset{Left,Top,Width,Height} will return rounded double values based on subpixel layout and rendering metrics instead of fractional values. Element.scroll{Left,Top,Width,Height} will return integral values.
- Safari Known Issues:
- - Date & Size limits set in Safari are not enforced in Developer Preview 4.
- - Safari may stop responding while loading video when playing Netflix content.
- - Javascript links on some websites may fail to open.
- - On certain machines, some forms of protected content, such as Netflix, may fail to play back. To resolve hold down option during the next reboot and select your OS X Yosemite partition.
- SMS Known Issue – On OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 4, you can receive SMS messages sent to your iPhone running iOS 8 beta, but you may not be able to send SMS messages.
- Tools Notes:
- - In Developer Preview 4, unsigned or improperly signed kexts will not be loaded. To use unsigned kexts during development, this strict check can be disabled by adding a “kext-dev-mode=1” boot arg.
- - AVFoundation changes the way some ID3 metadata values are represented as AVMetadataItems for binaries that are linked with the Developer Preview 4 SDK.
- - Installing kernel extensions on systems running Developer Preview 4 may make your system un-bootable. To fix the issue, boot into the Recovery Partition and run the following:
- ⁃ touch /Volumes/<10.10 Partition>/System/Library/Extensions
- ⁃ kextcache -u /Volumes/<10.10 Partition>
- - In OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 3 and iOS 8.0 beta 2, the NSURLSessionTask class provides a new priority property. Complete usage details are available in the NSURLSession.h header file, provided by the Foundation framework.
- - URLForUbiquityContainerIdentifier might return nil when running your application in Xcode. If so, open System Preferences, navigate to Cloud and iCloud Drive, and enable Xcode.
- - Developer Preview 4 includes new APIs to create CIContext objects which use the second GPU on Mac Pro hardware.
- Other Known Issues:
- - Some operations in Disk Utility may fail on volumes that have installed OS X Yosemite. Use the diskutil cs command-line tool to make these modifications.
- - Some text may not be localized to the selected system language.
- - Some languages may have clipped or misaligned layout.
- - Local OS X group accounts may be lost after upgrading to Developer Preview 4.
- - AppleID screen sharing may not work in Developer Preview 4.
- - The login window may not display users. Reboot the system to resolve this problem.
- - When booted into OS X Recovery, content may not be displayed correctly after waking from sleep.
- - AVCHD camera content may not play on Developer Preview 4.
- - HDCP content may fail to play.
