letter to transport companies

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to you in hopes of your support in helping the people in Portugal that have been affected by the recent fires.

There are many people in the UK who want to help. People have lost their entire homes & farms, and everything they own.
We are rounding up donations: mostly tools, seeds, work clothes, and other things people need to start rebuilding their homes & quintas,
especially things that are harder to track down locally in PT, but are in abundance here, unused.

We are trying to utilise any free space in vehicles already going to Portugal. We have a few people already taking their own cars,
and the network is growing, but I think transporting larger/heavier items might be more difficult & costly. Which is a sad shame
as there are so many things here that people don't use, that other people really need ! But if the transport costs so
much that it would just be better to give money to the people, these things here like tools/chainsaws are just not used,
while people who lost everything would have to buy new ones.

So I kindly ask you, on behalf of myself, people in Portugal affected by the fires, and people here in the UK who
have a duty to help, that any spare space in any of your vehicles going back to Portugal can be used to carry these donations.
We have people all around Portugal who have agreed to act as Drop-off points, some in the Mountains and some more south,
but we could arrange for them to collect from where your vehicles go to normally, as to not cost your company more time than necessary.

I understand that it is an ambitious request, but having seen how quickly strangers all over have come together to try to
help, I believe it's important that we search EVERY available option to help us. Your help would be so very greatly appreciated
by so many people.
