- Notes:
- - Much like the Rock and Grass teams, this team leads an offensive Water Pokemon with Lum Berry. This speeds up the early and late battles while giving the team STAB coverage against Ground Pokemon. Tentacruel has less Special Attack than Omastar and Ludicolo but much higher Speed. Its high Special Defense also helps tremendously, as most Psychic and Electric types don't OHKO it (and will often foolishly use Thunder Wave).
- - Crobat switches in on Earthquake users when Tentacruel can't OHKO them. It also outspeeds and OHKOs all the offensive Psychic types that beat Tentacruel and Venusaur.
- - This stall Venusaur is nearly identical to the one used on the Grass team. The only difference is that the attacking move is Giga Drain instead of Sludge Bomb. Giga Drain helps Venusaur recover HP to survive more hits, especially after switching into an Earthquake from the Water/Ground types that threaten Tentacruel and Crobat.
- - Venusaur leads round 10 to make the Anabel 2 fight more consistent. On good runs, I may lead Venusaur in earlier rounds as well, since it can switch into Tentacruel against Fire types and beat almost everything else.
- - Quick Claw users are by far the biggest threat to this team, since they often carry Earthquake or Psychic and can ruin Venusaur's Leech Seed stall.
- - The Anabel 2 strat is similar to the Grass teams, but trickier because Venusaur doesn't have Sludge Bomb. Here is a breakdown by Pokemon:
- > RAIKOU: Substitute, Leech Seed, keep Sub up until Raikou uses Rest TWICE, then immediately swap to Crobat and Sludge Bomb x2
- > LATIOS: Sludge Bomb (die), send in Venusaur, Leech Seed (2 chances to hit), Substitute (stall until 1 CM, then Sub/GD)
- > SNORLAX: Leech Seed, then alternate Protect/Sub. If Snorlax uses Rest TWICE, immediately swap to Tentacruel and Surf x2 (+GD)
- Old team notes:
- - Each Pokemon (Muk, Crobat, Gengar) plays a key role in the team's success; there isn't a single Pokemon that carries the team.
- - Muk is a great lead because it can scout for movesets with Protect, defeat most Pokemon 1v1 thanks to its bulk, switch to either Crobat or Gengar on Earthquakes, and explode on anything it doesn't like (mainly Psychic types).
- - Gengar is the best pivot in the game thanks to its three immunities, and it gives the team excellent Special coverage. Gengar's Destiny Bond has excellent synergy with Muk and Crobat, since it often creates 2v1 situations where Muk can simply use Explosion to win, and it allows Crobat to lock into a move with Choice Band without worrying about the next Pokemon resisting that move.
- - Crobat outspeeds and OHKOs several Psychic types that speedtie or outspeed Gengar, and it handles other difficult Pokemon like Metagross as well.
- - Psychic types are by far the team's biggest weakness, especially Lati@s and Quick Claw Slowbro/Slowking. Unfortunately, all Poison-type Pokemon in Gen 3 are weak to Psychic attacks.
- - Gengar leads Rounds 1-3 to speed things up.
