  1. Intro
  2.
  3. Definition
  4.
  5. Transhumanism is the term that describes the enchancement
  6. of an human-being by a product of human technology.
  7.
  8. Problématique
  9.
  10. Transhumanism can be viewed as an extension of humanism, from which it is partially derived. Humanists believe that humans matter,
  11. that individuals matter. We might not be perfect, but we can make things better by promoting rational thinking, freedom, tolerance,
  12. democracy, and concern for our fellow human beings. Transhumanists agree with this but also emphasize what we have the potential to become.
  13. Just as we use rational means to improve the human condition and the external world, we can also use such means to improve ourselves,
  14. the human organism. In doing so, we are not limited to traditional humanistic methods, such as education and cultural development.
  15. We can also use technological means that will eventually enable us to move beyond what some would think of as “human”.
  16.
  17. Plan
  18.
  19. In human enhancement we can find human genetic engineering, gene therapy, neurotechnology
  20. nanomedicine, 3d bioprinting ect...
  21.
  22. Arts and culture
  23.
  24. Even if human enhancement techniques are becoming more more developped and precise, we can already see it everywhere with
  25. arts and culture. For instance, fictional transhumanist scenarios exist since a long time, we can find tranhumanism in books, like diaspora, permuation city,
  26. movies, like Blade Runner or Gattaca, comic books, like Cpatain America or Iron Man and even video games, like Deus Ex and the well known Metal Gear Solid.
  27.
  28. Fact of life
  29.
  30. These story and scenarios can show us what people think about the future and how the world will be when this stage of developpement is achieved.
  31. It can be good, for instance we can dream about a world where everyone is happy, everything can be cured and everyone can eat, which is unrealistic for now.
  32. Or bad, where transhumanism don't resolve conflict but amplified tension between people and culture. Which lead to conflict, war, inquality, racism...
  33. Transhumanism is a big debate...
  34.
  35. Hand Transplant
  36.
  37. Hand transplant is the solution for people who loose their hands.
  38. They are much stronger than human hands, because some are made of titanium,
  39. but they come with an heavy cost. A normal hand transplant operation cost about 64 thousand dollars.
  40. The price for robotics hands like these should be around this.
  41. As it's a new technology the social security refund is really low and the cost is quite the same anywhere.
  42.
  43. Gene therapy
  44.
  45. Gene therapy is an experimental technique that uses genes to treat or prevent disease. In the future, this technique may allow
  46. doctors to treat a disorder by inserting a gene into a patient’s cells instead of using drugs or surgery.
  47. Replacing a mutated gene that causes disease with a healthy copy of the gene.
  48. Inactivating, or “knocking out,” a mutated gene that is functioning improperly.
  49. Introducing a new gene into the body to help fight a disease.
  50. The technique remains risky and is still under study to make sure that it will be safe and effective.
  51.
  52. Mind uploading
  53.
  54. Mind uploading is the process of of scanning mental state (including long-term memory and "self") of a particular brain substrate and copying it to a computer.
  55. The simulated mind could be within a virtual reality or simulated world. Alternatively, the simulated mind could reside in a computer that is inside (or connected to) a
  56. (not necessarily humanoid) robot or a biological body in real life. Some believe mind uploading is humanity's current best option for preserving the identity of the species.
  57. It can provide a permanent backup to our "mind-file" after a global disaster for exemple.
