- Trying to convert S-Video to Component (original post)
- **Before reading: I apologize if this is in the wrong sub. I couldn't find any cable troubleshooting subreddits or forums, so this was my best bet. I'll be happy to move it to a more appropriate subreddit if need be.**
- I'll make this as quick as possible.
- I want to use S-Video since it looks better than Composite, however my TV doesn't have S-Video. So I did some research, and bought some stuff that would help me convert S-Video into Component video since it should keep the same high quality video.
- This is how I set it up:
- Retron 3 -> S-Video Cable -> S-Video Female/Female Coupler -> 4-pin S-Video to 7-pin S-Video adapter\* -> S-Video to Component adapter -> Component Cable -> TV
- \*The cable (and the input on the console) was 4-pin, while the converter was 7-pin, so I had to buy an extra adapter to convert it.
- The 4-pin to 7-pin adapter arrived today, so I was super excited to try it out. Did the setup above switched my TV to component, and... nothing. Nothing showed up. I had a game in, and I was switched to the right console, but nothing appeared. I'm completely stumped, I don't know what went wrong. The connectors seem to be fine, everything was plugged in as tight as possible, the power was on as well.
- Is it impossible to convert S-Video to Component? Do I need to use something different?
- I was originally going to get an S-Video to Composite converter, however I assumed that would defeat the purpose of upgrading to S-Video if it would just be composite again.
- Any help is appreciated, I can provide extra info if needed as well.
