  1. spelling errors abound, dev notes
  2.
  3. You've been approaching Daubarth's ending incorrectly. Daubarth should have elements of being an adoptive grandfather to Winterhold, in addition to setting up a laboratory and shop.
  4.
  5. So, in addition to being a competent necromancer, instead of just establishing himself as a necromancer and stuff, he should also have some semblence of kinship.
  6.
  7. He should invite you to sit and talk to him. He should also do this at the College, or Windhelm.
  8.
  9.
  10. 1. Daubarth past
  11. 2. Daubarth advice (player)
  12. 3. Daubarth status
  13. 4. Scene (Daubarth, Aldous) - Aldous High Rock past
  14. 5. Scene (Daubarth, Balis) - Balis' Telvanni past
  15. 6. Scene (Daubarth, Balis) - Guilds
  16. 7. Scene (Daubarth, Balis) - Lab
  17. 8. Scene (Daubarth, Aldous) - Lab
  18.
  19. 1. P: Do you have any stories?
  20.
  21. D: I have many stories, but many aren't that good... Oh. One time, I was with a party in Daggerfall, venturing along the woods. I remember how I hadn't yet proven myself to my master at the time. We tracked down an ogre camp. There, I sensed the body of a dead knight. It was a recent kill, and hadn't been scavanged or eaten by them yet. I awakened him in the dead of night, empowering the warrior, and taking over from within.
  22.
  23.
  24.
  25.
  26.
  27. 2. P: Do you have any advice for me?
  28.
  29. D: Stock up on components. In my experience, having more resources at hand is worth the initial investment and burden. Or have an assistant hold onto them.
  30.
  31. D: Do not let anything go to waste. Any decent necromancer knows this, but it's important to recognize the atrophy around us, no matter the form.
  32.
  33.
  34.
  35.
  36.
  37. 3. P: How are you enjoying life?
  38.
  39. D: It's decent, I'd say. But not as eventful as I expected, really. But that might be for the best.
  40.
  41.
  42.
  43.
  44.
  45. 4. -Scene with Daubarth and Aldous -
  46.
  47. D: Aldous, was it?
  48.
  49. A: Yeah? What's up?
  50.
  51. D: That name is a Breton one. Yet you said you were from Bruma?
  52.
  53. A: Oh. Huh. Must be from my fathers side.
  54.
  55. A: I don't think I've ever been to Dywnyian, if that's what you're thinking.
  56.
  57. D: A shame. Ever been to High Rock?
  58.
  59. A: Hmm.. I think I did once, actually, went on a little tour of Daggerfall with some childhood friends. The kingdom was... pleasant. But that's about all I remember.. I was quite young, and regret not exploring more when I could have.
  60.
  61. A: Not just there, but I remember turning away from my friends when they wanted to explore. It was the age where only once you grow up that you realize you were barely conscious to begin with. I didn't want to be bound by such insular principles forever.
  62.
  63. A: I think that realization helped propel me into a guild. My interest in magic and some connections eventually got me into the Synod. Though I don't know how much that helped me, in hindsight.
  64.
  65. D: Interesting story. Guilds are a relative freedom, lots of opportunities, connections to be had.
  66.
  67. * Balis addition *
  68.
  69. B: Yeah, well, they can also be an anchor sometimes.
  70.
  71.
  72.
  73.
  74.
  75. 5. - Scene with Daubarth and Balis 1-
  76.
  77. D: So Barthes, tell me about yourself.
  78.
  79. B: Not much to say. And the question is vague.
  80.
  81. D: Ahh. Hmm... Well, tell me about your past. I heard you've been involved with House Telvanni, but left. Why's that?
  82.
  83. B: That's not a good story.
  84.
  85. D: Do tell.
  86.
  87. B: Alright. One day, I ran away from my master. The reason is important to me.
  88.
  89. B: I suspect I wouldn't be welcome back in my House, but I also think they might not even care at all either way.
  90.
  91. B: Haven't heard anything about my master since I left, and that's all I want to say about this.
  92.
  93.
  94.
  95.
  96.
  97. 6. - Scene with Daubarth and Balis 2-
  98.
  99. B: Been curious about this a while now. How does this guild compare to other places you've been?
  100.
  101. D: It could be so much more. Once you know the potential is there the lack of drive towards it is irritating, but this is a problem inherent to many places, not just here. Doesn't it bother you? Aren't you aware?
  102.
  103. B: Aware? We're all trying to improve or at least impact the world in our own way. I know that Aldous is, uh, a bit more familiar with that drive you mention than I am, but everyone is no doubt trying to accomplish something.
  104.
  105. D: The presupposition is that they're aware of full scale of potential. I think that the majority are not, else they would be more like me. Thinking in large, enduring terms.
  106.
  107. B: You have to have the small bits too, you know. Everyone can't just run off and build a castle or farm. There's a collective, with parts big and small, that all somehow have to fit.
  108.
  109. D: Yes... Was that steam contraption just meant to be a small thing? It's going to fade away, just some peculiar curiosity. It seems unsustainable in a place without magic wells or foci around it, and rather dangerous in your realized design. Yet it exists. It justifies its potential.
  110.
  111. B: I mean, it's not meant to be widespread anytime soon. The knowledge is there...I... I don't know.
  112.
  113. D: But what if it was widespread? Wouldn't it be strictly better if, say, more places had your innovations? If you had theirs?
  114.
  115. B: Not in every case. There's obviously potential to misuse it. You seem to view knowledge as a collective.
  116.
  117. B: While on an individual level this might be true, such organization simply doesn't exist. And unless you had everyone telling each other everything, it can't.
  118.
  119. A: Don't forget, Synod and the College of Whispers both have ulterior motives. It's beneficial to them to not work together. That's a big road-block for reviving the more liberal Third Era Mages Guild.
  120.
  121. B: The closest you'd get are research agreements. And I'm definitely not the one to ask about that.
  122.
  123. D: Hmph.
  124.
  125.
  126.
  127.
  128.
  129. 7. - Scene with Daubarth and Balis (not follower, random scene) -
  130.
  131. D: Hello hello. Welcome.
  132.
  133. B: Wanted to have a look around. Haven't gotten a good look since you took over.
  134.
  135. *B: Wanted to have a look around. Heard about how you took over this place. * Balis didn't meet Daubarth before.
  136.
  137. D: Ahh, yes, indeed. You like it?
  138.
  139. B: It bothers me immensely. But I've come to think radically different beliefs can coexist, strenous as it might sometimes be.
  140.
  141. B: On that matter, I wanted to have a look around your lab today, if that's alright.
  142.
  143. D: Of course! Just do be mindful of the equipment.
  144.
  145. B: I will. Thank you.
  146.
  147.
  148.
  149.
  150.
  151. 8. - Scene with Daubarth and Aldous (not follower? random scene)-
  152.
  153. A: So you're in charge around here now?
  154.
  155. D: I wouldn't say in charge. I am in a position of power, but I'm not lording over anyone.
  156.
  157. A: Right. What have you been doing in terms of research?
  158.
  159. D: Mainly potion tests, but some other minor things as well. You're welcome to see my laboratory for yourself. I'm bad at explaining.
