Is between rare/nearly impossible and actually not possible. When it's uncommon, there's always someone who'll go for it because they're crazy, but if it's hopeless what's the point in even participating? I concur on the"we should not say no just because it's hard for ironmen" but I am talking about when it is not possible for ironmen. That kind of circumvents the point because RuneScape mode was designed so which it is possible to earn every item yourself. It would be weird to have things that you cannot obtain via any means (no matter how rare) if you didn't do something to get a month a while 3 years ago or whatever. AFAIK there's nothing similar to that in OSRS.

I am able to get any time to era from a hint between today and OSRS's death. But I'll never have the ability to acquire a cosmetic from this shop if I do not take part in a particular tournament. I don't really enjoy this. I'd be fine using a slow, grindy approach to receive it. Just unobtainable indefinitely on a DIY account.

If they're just decorative, then I really don't see why an ironman can't pick up the benefits in RuneScape in an NPC if it is done on the exact same account. If you are talking about impossible to unlock because of the competition between others, well, tough I guess, a few people play over others. I just hope they bring out rewards for casual players (participation makeup, or reaching certain milestones etc) and also have separate rewards for people who do nicely. We will just need to find out what Jagex have got planned. It is an intriguing idea, but I don't play as much as I used to anyway, so there is no way I'd have the time to play with it.
