  1. >It is strictly WB animation. Looney Tunes, Hannah-Barbera, Cartoon Network etc. but other WB IPs make cameos and references, Beetlejuice is a secret boss and Gizmo from Gremlins is a shopkeeper NPC.
  2. >The story is that, in the SMT/Persona universe, CN City (or maybe Toon City since it’s more then just CN properties), a massive city composed of all aspects of WB animation and where all cartoons live (which canonically existed in-universe previously as just media) mysteriously appeared out of nowhere on a floating island.
  3. >Toons and humans quickly became very close because “fuck yeah dude, cartoons are real!” and Toons love to entertain and thrive on admiration. It comes to the point where some humans start living in CN City alongside Toons some years later. Some Toons and humans have even formed strong bonds with each other.
  4. >SMT Demons, under the control of a team of villainous Toons (Vilgax, Aku etc.) lead by Black Hat invade CN City. Toons become the makeshift Personas of humans that they formed strong bonds with, unlocking magical powers, you play as an OC with the ability to form bonds with Toons very easily, forming a bond with Bugs Bunny (your default Toonsona) at the start.
  5. >You explore the massive toon populated city, see famous landmark locations like the KND Treehouse, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends etc. and do battle with SMT demons alongside your “Toonsonas”. On the way you make friends with other humans and their Toonsonas who join your party.
  6. >Party members include a nerd girl with a talent for inventing who has Wile E. Coyote as her Toonsona, a Riku-esque rival for the MC has Daffy Duck who shares his need in proving himself to his rival but still fights on his side, a possible love interest to MC has Lola, and a lady loving casanova with a penchant for chemistry and perfume making has Pepe Le Pew, a greaser-type punk with a heart of gold has Sylvester.
  7. >Meet characters from Persona, SMT and other Atlus titles hanging out with looney tunes and other cartoon characters.
  8. >You can unlock additional Toonsonas that you can summon and battle alongside with in battle by completing special quests like helping Scooby and the gang solve a mystery to unlock Scooby or help Dexter with an experiment to unlock him.
  9. >Gameplay is like a mix of SMT and Persona. You use a lot of cartoony weapons yourself like anvils, pies, a cartoony revolver with living bullets like in Roger Rabbit and instead of a dagger like Joker, you have the Singing Sword.
  10. >TOM from Toonami is a big figure in the game and an integral part in the story, much like King Mickey in Kingdom Hearts. TOM is the most powerful Toon in existence and is the only Toon to have Toonsonas of his own (Sara being one of them). He progressively becomes more and more of a guide figure to the MCs.
  11. >The big twist is that all of the Toons are actually super convincing animatronics powered by ink and created by a scientist, who is also responsible for the creation and sudden appearance of CN City. The scientist created both to make his dead daughter’s dreams of making cartoons real, come true. He is also responsible for the demons appearing in order to distract the Toonsona users from his master plan. Black Hat, who has been the main villain up until the scientist’s reveal was really just a puppet reprogrammed to obey the scientist.
  12. >The scientist’s master plan is to harness the power of YHVH to bring his daughter back to life, destroying the world in the process, which he’s fully aware of, thus the creation of CN/Toon City. To act as a new world where he and his daughter can live in peace together again.
  13. >The scientist created the Absolution to be the control point of all Toons and CN City and TOM is an extension of the Absolution designed by the scientist to carry out his work but he gained sentience and rebelled. He has since traveled the galaxy in an interstellar odyssey, becoming very wise but he returned to Earth to help the MC and save the world. TOM and the Absolution are powered by ink just like all the other Toons. Also, since TOM is programmed to have complete knowledge of all animated work, he has a bit of a nerdy side and he likes watching cartoons and anime and plays video games, which is why he came back to help stop the scientist and save Toonkind.
  14. >The Toon animatronics are powered by people’s love/passion for cartoons and those particular characters, giving them sentience and magical powers reminiscent of shit they do in their shows but in the form of SMT skills.
  15. >Forgotten and flat out loathed toons are withered and falling apart (think Epic Mickey or FNAF) and are kept out of public view to keep the illusion of the Toons being real cartoons brought to life going. These broken down Toons are all contained in a massive junkyard-like dungeon called, the Toon Graveyard.
  16. >The Toon villain team is comprised of Black Hat, Aku, Vilgax, Mojo Jojo, Mandark, Father and The Lich. Other villain characters show up too as smaller bosses that can be unlocked as Toonsonas when certain criteria is met. The main villain team can be unlocked as Toonsonas as well, but only post-game. The Kanker Sisters are underlings for the villain team and they cause trouble for the protagonists on the villain’s behalf, they are also in control of Mara.
  17. >There are a total of 80-90 unlockable Toonsonas, each one can be trained and upgraded. More are added in DLC of course.
  18. >Certain Toons can evolve into different forms when certain criteria are met, most notably Daffy Duck and each variation functions differently. Default Daffy is purely offensive, Duck Dodgers Daffy specializes in magic, Zoot Suit Daffy (A.K.A. literally me) specializes in debuffs, Robin Hood Daffy is a healer/support and Green Loontern Daffy is purely defensive.
  19. >Toon Evolution is heavily expanded upon in the second game and it quickly becomes a series staple. Many Toons have more then one possible evolved state with their own set of strengths and drawbacks. Big Chungus for example is an absolute tank but isn’t even half as fast as default Bugs.
  20. >You are able to unlock all kinds of Toon Vehicles and drive them around an open-world CN City to get around fast such as the Flinestones car, the Mystery Machine, Ben’s Tenn-Speed, Samurai Jack’s motorcycle, Carl’s car, the fucking Batmobile etc. and each have their own unique stats for drifting, speed, armor etc.
  21. >On top of unlockable vehicles you can unlock a fast travel system later on in the form of Rick’s portal gun that allows you to teleport to any location in Toon City, as well as the Absolution and Total Drama Island.
  22. >Cooking system where you can bring ingredients that you find to Mung Daal’s Catering to make recognizable toon food like Cookie Cats or food from SMT/Persona like the Big Bang Burger. Each food item has it’s own effects and heal certain amount depending on it’s star ranking (up to five stars) and they may grant certain buffs as well depending on the food item in question. Much like Toon Evolution, this is a feature that is expanded upon in later games.
  23. >Total Drama Island is a mini game world that you have access to after completing a death game arc involving Chris.
  24. >A Boss Rush mini-game stage similar to Mount Olympus from Kingdom Hearts, either in the form of the Joycan from Venture Bros., the Meta-Brawl arena from Justice League Unlimited or the alien coliseum from the Ben 10 episode “Grudge Match”.
  25. >There’s a camera mechanic where you can take pictures of things to solve cases and to also take pictures of certain locations of a Toon City for collecting purposes. You can also use the camera to take pictures of movie posters of Warner Brothers films which will unlock bios of those films describing the history and significance of that film, plus some general fun facts.
  26. >Aside from photographs and movie posters, other collectibles include Jawbreakers, plushies of Hannah-Barbara animal toons (yogi bear, snagglepuss etc.), and playing cards of SMT characters.
  27. >Batman originally intended to serve as some security measure of Toontown world the scientist created unaware of being an animatronic. Knowing that The God Damn Batman would a be a problem, Black Hat tells him lies how The Scientist killed Robin when in actuality, the Animatronic was killed off by Black Hat and tossed into the Toon Junkyard. Makes a deal if he cooperates with him that he can use YHVH’s power to revive him, but he needs control of the toon villains as "sacrifices" for the SMT demons to work. During the boss fight Bats comes to the realization he's an animatronic and in a final act of heroism he joins your party to beat Black Hat and sacrifices himself to activate CN City’s security and prevent further smt demon infestation.
  28. >Throughout the series, The Joker and Harley Quinn are recurring bosses/villains, similar to how Pete and Maleficent function in KH. They have their own agenda that’s not made immediately clear and they usually play both sides in any given conflict, sometimes even siding with the heroes temporarily. Later in the series it’s revealed that Joker and Quinn are working for Louis Cypher/Lucifer as agents of Chaos, with their goal being to instigate conflict between Black Hat and the heroes in order to make sure that the strong become stronger through a cycle of endless conflict. They use the Amala Network to travel and avoid detection when necessary.
  29. >Pinky and The Brain try to summon and control demons in a scheme to take over the world. Brain manufactures an artificial Toonsona using his Shadow self and becomes a boss.
  30. >Aside from Beetlejuice and Gizmo, other references include movie posters scattered all through the city advertising WB movies like the Maltese Falcon and ‘33 King Kong, cameos of DC comic books (Titans Tower from Teen Titans can also be seen in the distance) and a Mortal Kombat arcade cabinet located in an arcade area.
  31. >The concept of Ink is expanded upon in the second game. Ink was discovered by the scientist which he found in a meteor, this primordial ooze he called “Ink” had the ability to give life to lifeless things and reacted to strong emotions. He used this ink to give his animatronics life. This ink powers the Toons and gives them the ability to use magic when they receive strong positive emotions from humans.
  32. >The Martians are the main threat of the second game, and Queen T’yrahnee is the main villain alongside Marvin. It’s revealed that the Looney Tunes Martian race are beings of pure Ink and they invaded Earth to destroy CN City and all Toon life, seeing them as abominations. Martians are in control of SMT Demons thanks to Superior Martian Technology TM.
  33. >Nanos from FusionFall are introduced as new feature in the second game. There are Nanos of both WB characters and SMT Demons. Nanos act as summons that support you for a couple of turns, granting passive effects like boosting stats of you and Toonsonas, healing etc. Nanos who have connections to certain Toonsonas give them particularly strong boosts, a Nano of Fourarms for example will greatly boosts Ben Tennyson’s strength, Aishi Nano boosts Samurai Jack etc. Characters who aren’t Toonsonas are Nanos instead. A lot of Ben 10 aliens for example are Nanos.
  34. >Demi-Fiend is a secret boss ala’ Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts in Toonsona 2.
  35. >The police force of CN City is the Toon Patrol, composed of Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Nasty Canasta, The Crusher, Bluto Popeye and Khyber from Ben 10, who is the captain, going from hunting aliens to hunting Toons. Khyber knows that he and all Toons are animatronics and is in on the conspiracy with the villain team. Although Khyber is the captain of the Toon Patrol, he answers to the true masters of Toon City’s police department. The Twin Wardens, Caroline & Justine who were put as heads by the scientist. Commissioner Gordon is also a part of the Toon Patrol as commissioner but he answers to Caroline & Justine much to his chagrin. Osmosis Jones is a member of the Toon Patrol as well but he’s the only none-corrupt member aside from Gordon but he’s a loose cannon as well. He’s an unlockable Toonsona and is the best healer/support class in the game.
  36. >The Toon Patrol utilizes special technology in order to keep peace in a massive city populated by chaotic, immortal cartoons (despite the many super hero cartoons there since someone’s gotta control them too). Which is why they utilize high-tech weaponry (created by you-know-who) that fires concentrated bursts of negative emotional energy that counteracts the positive emotions that empower cartoons. And when they’re authorized to use lethal force they bust out The Dip.
  37.
  38. Bugs finds out the truth
  39. >”I... I just can’t do it, Doc... how can I live knowing that I’m just a toy created to fulfill some mad scientist’s fantasies? I thought I loved to entertain because I was a Toon and that’s what we do best, but I’m just a machine programmed to think whateva’ is needed from me. Nothin’ that I think or feel is real Doc... I’M not real, do you have any idea what that’s like?”
  40.
  41. Batman and Gordon discuss the Toon Patrol
  42. >Gordon: “Honestly Batman, I’m not even sure why this city needs a police department, this place is crawling with super heroes. You, that Tennyson kid, the Powerpuff Girls, Blue Falcon, not to mention those kids that form bonds with Toons and adapt to their powers, I can go on!”
  43. >Batman: “That may be true Gordon but consider this, Toons like you and me are essentially immortal, we can survive getting blown up, shot, squashed whatever, there is no stopping a Toon, especially not another Toon. If we didn’t have the Toon suppressing technology the Toon Patrol has, we’d be having Toons running rampant and destroying the city without consequence, maybe even be putting human lives in danger, not to mention there are just as many villainous characters in this city as heroic, maybe even more.”
  44. >Gordon: “What makes you say that?...”
  45. >Batman looks almost a little guilty like on some subconscious level he knows selling out justice for Robin's life is still wrong
  46. >Batman: “Trust me Jim...just trust me.“
