- An open letter to Agartha,
- I love this land. I really always did, even in the darkest of times. I was born here, raised in Aetherius and Bhaldraithe throughout my youth and found purpose and meaning to my life. There were many things I did that I regret and some more that I will be eternally proud of. I fought in two wars for the people who showed me acceptance and gave me a home. Maybe I made some mistakes in my actions there but, I did always strive to do the right thing.
- I stumbled into the Golden Cat when I was fifteen years old, cold and shivering and completely scared out of my mind and I was immediately greeted with friends who became my family. Vyse and Valerie, Ryleigh and Eirel, names I’ll never forget, as well as some of my best friends I’ll carry memories of forever. Dan, Laureline, and Darius gave me my first job as Bhaldraithe’s Royal Courier, I think I still have my silly little badge somewhere. Eiphraem Kang has taught me more than I could ever hope to in any Academy, so for those of you wasting your time learning silly spells there, I’d personally suggest bugging the Warden for some real-life advice. Then again, he’s often busy, so maybe don’t.
- From courier to council member to commander to king. I guess it’s somewhat of a joke that I ended up there, but, I suppose I’ve learned to laugh at it by now.
- I fixed my biggest regret. I was able to mend things over with the person I hurt the most, and now I get to sail away with her to raise a family where they’ll never know the pain of vampires stealing their homes or the tyranny of an archon. Agartha is a war-torn place, I understand that now. There’s many who speak of peace but it’s not what anyone truly wants, and no amount of Alvi Slades or Ikkaku Ukitakes are going to change that.
- The most important thing I learned during my year as a wolf was the importance of the end. Beginnings are beautiful things, and middles are where a lot of the build up is, but no good story is complete without its finale. I’m writing this as I wait for the boat to arrive here in Crafthold to take me to my wife and kids. I’m writing this as I close this chapter of my life and move on to the next.
- For all the rest of the people who knew me, I leave you with this:
- A nameless knight once told me to always do what’s right, no matter the cost. I watched that same knight leave the tavern I met him in to go fight a battle he almost assuredly died in, as I never saw him again. I’ve struggled to understand what that meant, ‘the right thing’, and I don’t have a good answer for what that is even still. All I can say is to stick to your guns. Do what you can’t not do. And trust in something bigger than yourself.
- I guess that’s it.
- See all of ya around sometime.
- -Tael
