  2. alrght so this will consist of two parts, one more of how you handle situation and the other about yourself, this could take a hour or so or less depending on how quickly this goes along. Are you ready?
  3. Lent23Today at 8:38 PM
  4. Yeah!
  5. DragoToday at 8:38 PM
  6. I’ll give you a list of your powers as a trial moderator.
  7. 1. Access to ingame logs. This includes ALL attack logs. ALL local and antagonist ooc, including deadchat and admin pm’s. You can also send your own admin pms (bwoink)
  8. 2. The ability to wind players (admin freeze them).
  9. 3. The ability to boot players of a lower rank (regular players basically).
  10. 4. The ability to temporarily ban and temporarily job ban players. Self explanatory.
  11. 5. The ability to apply NOTES to a players’ ckey. This is a system staff use to keep tabs on players behavior and administrative action taken. It’s good practice to note what you’ve talked to a player about. You don’t need to note EVERYTHING. If they didn’t do anything wrong, a note isn’t required.
  12. 6. The ability to warn players. This is like a note, but visible to the players and requires them to acknowledge the warning.
  13. 7. The ability to admin-ghost (like observing, but you can re-enter your body)
  14. 8. Lastly, the ability to use modchat, where you can speak with other moderators and admins about stuff.
  15. Any questions about the powers and how they function, or in general, before we begin?
  16. Lent23Today at 8:39 PM
  17. Nope, seems pretty clear!
  18. DragoToday at 8:40 PM
  19. Alright lets start then
  20. You’re on server and you notice a message over the radio:
  21.
  22. ”Donald J. Trump, Assistant, is inbound from NTCC Odin.”
  23.
  24. Jumping over, you are met with a bald, 30 year old assistant. A quick check of their ckey indicates their account is 2 days old. What do you do?
  25. Lent23Today at 8:41 PM
  26. Send them a message asking if they know what the kind of server that they're on, explain that this is a heavy roleplay server, and wait for their response.
  27. After that, I'd be waiting to see how they reacted to that, whether they seemed serious about their situation, and if they were serious but didn't know how serious the RP was, we could take action to change their name to something more serious, or give them a warning about what they're doing, and boot them if they continue to do some stupid stuff.
  28. DragoToday at 8:46 PM
  29. alrightie, anything else to add to that?
  30. Lent23Today at 8:46 PM
  31. I feel like the rest of what happens is sorta situational. The first step is just.. making sure they know where they are, and judging them from there to take other actions.
  32. But other than that, I think I'm set on my answer!
  33. DragoToday at 8:47 PM
  34. alrightie, ready for the next?
  35. Lent23Today at 8:47 PM
  36. yeah!
  37. DragoToday at 8:56 PM
  38. You are sitting in the lobby working on a character when you notice a flood of attack logs in your chat window. An engineer is stabbing someone with a screwdriver, and said person, a cargo technician, is hitting the engineer with a fire extinguisher. A quick check indicates that neither of them are antagonists. What do you do?
  39. Lent23Today at 8:58 PM
  40. Freeze them both and message them separately, ask them what caused the situation, listen to both sides of the story, and corroborate their stories with any attack logs, ie "He hit me first," etc.
  41. Check their ckeys to see how long they've been playing.
  42. I'd keep an open mind to the situation, as there's always room for conflict, and perhaps their story lines up with eachothers and everything is fine. Perhaps one just randomly attacked the other and the other was just defending themselves.
  43. As for being mid-character creation; I feel that moderation comes before any sort of personal character creation or other unimportant matters that can be paused.
  44. Priorities, you know?
  45. DragoToday at 9:03 PM
  46. Mhmm!
  47. Lets say though
  48. The engineers says that the cargo tech was insulting him and calling him names, so he started attacking him. The cargo tech said he was just trying to get the engineer to fix a couple windows. Both of them have a couple notes for unrelated behavior a few weeks prior.
  49. but both are around the same age account wise
  50. Lent23Today at 9:04 PM
  51. Well, I would have to explain to the engineer that we're supposed to keep things realistic. Would you really start stabbing someone else with a screwdriver if they called you a name? Probably not.
  52. I'd also check chat logs prior to this to make sure they actually match up to what the people were saying.
  53. It sounds like the engineer's player didn't understand how much of a serious roleplay server this is, and I'd try to explain that this is an HRP server, and that we have to keep things as realistic as possible.
  54. Assuming that the stories were straight, I'd probably make a note of the situation for both of their ckeys, just in case something happened again.
  55. I'd at LEAST give the engineer (in this case) a warning, and potentially the cargo tech, if we assume that they were telling the truth, asking for the engineer to fix some windows (even if they said it in a rude way or called the engineer some names)
  56. It seems to me that, with the information I have, the engineer is more at fault here, and this would be a warnable offense.
  57. That kind of conflict isn't allowed as a non-antag, and even then is kinda shady for antag activity, though when it comes to antags, I feel like people have a greater plan, ideally.
  58. DragoToday at 9:09 PM
  59. alrightie, anything else to add to this one?
  60. Lent23Today at 9:09 PM
  61. Think I've got my point across
  62.
  63. DragoToday at 9:10 PM
  64. alrightie.
  65. You’re in the lobby when you get an ahelp. It’s a round of mercenary and there are plenty of combat logs. “wtf can you take care of this qm please??” Jumping over, you find the quartermaster locked in combat with the entire merc team, and he’s winning. He’s armed himself with the best weapons he can get, and he’s in cargo fighting. Two of the mercs are already down, and the last two are injured badly but fighting.
  66. Lent23Today at 9:17 PM
  67. I'd message the quartermaster, asking how he got into this situation. Question him about why he's fighting, where his character got weapons training, why he felt the need to fight instead of call for security.
  68. I understand that he's in cargo, but it takes a while to get weapons. He was most likely planning to have a shootout with the merc team.
  69. DragoToday at 9:17 PM
  70. He says that he was just defending cargo from the mercenaries, since it’s where he works. In his notes he has a few notes from a couple weeks back about powergaming, as well as a warning from the previous week.
  71. He says he ordered the weapons from cargo and used a pKA to break in.
  72. Lent23Today at 9:22 PM
  73. Clearly this is another case of powergaming. He's pretty robust, so he probably has a priority of fighting. If the warning is relevant to this scenario, then we need to address that he already received a warning. In this case, I would recommend a job ban from QM and cargo tech, because he's clearly abusing his position as QM to get weapons to fight mercs.
  74. DragoToday at 9:23 PM
  75. They start to yell at you over pm’s, saying they are being a realistic character by defending their job place, and that irl they know how to shoot a gun, which isn’t that difficult, calling you an idiot for not understanding.
  76. Lent23Today at 9:27 PM
  77. At this point, I'd probably get a second opinion for situations. I'd recommend keeping the punishment as is, as he's not really doing anything to further his punishment. I'd ask for the second opinion because it's escalated to some personal attacks, and I would just like to see if others would have the same actions.
  78. If nobody else is around, I'd hopefully end the conversation there, and offer them the opportunity to appeal their job ban on the forums.
  79. DragoToday at 9:29 PM
  80. He seems to quiet down, however advice in this is when things get personal, hand the ticket to somebody else or just end it there. Got anything else to add?
  81. Lent23Today at 9:29 PM
  82. Not really! The handing things to someone else was what I was going for with the second opinion thing, so I'm glad we're on the same page about that
  83. DragoToday at 9:36 PM
  84. alrightie
  85. You have been moderating for a few weeks now, and you’ve noticed a staff member who consistently goes out of their way to obtain the best weapons, even going so far as to spawn themselves weapons when alone. They also sometimes edit their var’s to be stronger than average. What would you do with this information?
  86. Lent23Today at 9:40 PM
  87. Ask them what they're doing with the weapons and var edits, bring it up with people higher ranking than them.
  88. DragoToday at 9:40 PM
  89. alrightie. Anything else to add?
  90. Lent23Today at 9:41 PM
  91. The way the question is worded, the activity seems fishy to me. I'd take effort to find out who exactly I'd need to talk to with regards to the situation.
  92. But no, not really anything else to add!
  93. DragoToday at 9:49 PM
  94. Now for the ooc part
  95. First, what do you think the role of a moderator is on Aurora?
  96. Lent23Today at 9:50 PM
  97. My understanding is that moderators are simply there to make sure everybody is understanding and playing by the rules that have been established for the server, and to help players with any sort of ahelp questions/concerns/etc
  98. DragoToday at 10:00 PM
  99. Alright, second one
  100. This is a moreso open ended one but, it seems some staff arent super familer with you, What can you say about yourself personaly that would make you fit for this position?
  101. Lent23Today at 10:03 PM
  102. I like to think I have a strong sense of integrity and justice, trying to keep everybody on equal footing, especially when it comes to rules and that kind of thing, but I know I have a good attitude about things and try to keep things light and comfortable for everyone involved.
  103. I've played on SS13 for a while, but I've never been a super talkative person in OOC, so I'm not really surprised that I'm not really a familiar face, per say.
  104. Also, I feel like staff not being familiar with me would be a good thing, cause that means I'm not getting talked to often, right? :p
  105. DragoToday at 10:06 PM
  106. alrightie
  107. I have another question: sometimes you need to make unsavory or difficult decisions as staff. For example, banning someone who you consider a friend, or explaining rule violations to them. How do you think you would handle such a task? Again, I encourage you to be honest about it. It’s never easy.
  108. Lent23Today at 10:06 PM
  109. I mean, it would be hard, but I believe that integrity is doing what is right even if it's not necessarily your favorite decision.
  110. I'd hate to have to discipline or ban one of my friends, but if they're genuinely rulebreaking, that needs to be addressed.
  111. DragoToday at 10:07 PM
  112. alrightie
  113. How do you feel about the current state of the server? Do you hold any concerns over the way things are run right now? If you could change one thing about it, anything, what would it be?
  114. Lent23Today at 10:07 PM
  115. I genuinely enjoy the server. It seems to be held under control pretty well, from what I've seen. I've got no complaints from what I've seen!
  116. It's the reason why I play here!
  117. DragoToday at 10:08 PM
  118. Perfect. Final question then. Are you comfortable with your interview being posted on the forums?
  119. Lent23Today at 10:08 PM
  120. oh, sure!
  121. I wouldn't say anything here that I wouldn't post publically.
  122. DragoToday at 10:10 PM
  123. alrightie! That should conclude your interview
  124. Lent23Today at 10:10 PM
  125. Cool, thanks!
