Turns out that Queen Beryl was a human from ancient times who was angry at the moon because* of unrequited love. Also, the final episode featured a beam fight with the main character in a "spontaneous" powerup with lighter colors against a giant and red form of the main villain, set to the OP music. Also, death fakeouts.

*Apparently in the manga it's more explicit than one was a cause for the other but in the anime it's possible that both just happened separately at first
