  20. It's pretty ironic that I was banned while discussing my opinion
  21. on whether a particular social event is ironic or not, a discussion
  22. which stemmed from discussing CoCs (i.e. banning people for expressing
  23. their opinions). If that is not the ultimate irony, I don't know
  24. what it is!
  25.
  26. It appears the 9front CoC has finally caught up with me.
  27.
  28. So long, it's been a fun ride.

  76. Yes.
  77.
  78. I've already unbanned him.
  79.
  80. I would be sad to see him go, especially over this bullshit.
  81.
  82. If he was a random newbie, I would have just permabanned him and forgot
  83. about him, like the occasional 4chan Holocaust deniers or that asshole
  84. that blamed me for uriel's death and never shut up about his
  85. misunderstanding of mental illness.
  86.
  87. I'm torn.
  88.
  89. I respect(ed?) a him a lot so I don't want to just throw that away
  90. because he has oldfashioned opinions about trans people.
  91.
  92. But part of me also feels like I shouldn't tolerate this crap.
  93.
  94. For the record, I don't really care about the transgender person he
  95. commented on. It's the general principle that's bothering me.
  96.
  97. Gender is whatever your brain ends up wired up as. In most cases this
  98. aligns with your chromosomes, which in most cases align with your
  99. genitalia.
  100.
  101. But, through accidents of biology, there are people with the chromosomes
  102. not matching their genitalia.
  103.
  104. Now imagine MAYBE there are people, whose brains are legitimately wired in
  105. a way that doesn't match their chromosomes.
  106.
  107. I know this is hard to relate to when you've never had to deal with it.

  141.
  142. I don't advertise it, but I have, and I have had many lives apart
  143. from what I expose about myself in various online communities. I'm
  144. friends with all kinds of groups of people that live at the fringe
  145. of social acceptance. And some of them are trans. Not only I do
  146. have experience relating to trans people, these experiences have
  147. all been positive.
  148.
  149. > Now imagine MAYBE there are people, whose brains are legitimately
  150. > wired in a way that doesn't match their chromosomes.
  151.
  152. There was never any doubt that this is true, and I find it bizarre
  153. that it is implied that I do not believe it to be true. For the
  154. record, I never doubted this was true. You make it sound like I
  155. somehow act like trans people are not a legitimate group of people.
  156. This can't be further from the truth, some of them are my friends!
  157. I genuinely can't understand how you could have made this inference.
  158.
  159. While I try to be really careful about how I express myself in
  160. writing, sometimes on IRC I am sloppy, and perhaps I have said
  161. something that could have been wrongly interpreted. For that, I
  162. apologise (though I don't know what EXACTLY I said that was
  163. interpreted like that).
  164.
  165. > For the record, I don't really care about the transgender person
  166. > he commented on. It's the general principle that's bothering me.
  167.
  168. I did not attack this person for being transgender, I attacked this
  169. person because she is crazy.
  170.
  171. I also criticised various factions who have put her in the spotlight
  172. as an avatar for their feminist cause. I have criticised these
  173. factions because I believe she is a spectacularly bad example (others
  174. might disagree). I have not criticised anyone for being trans,
  175. though, perhaps someone could interpret what I said this way. FWIW
  176. my trans friends also agree with me.
  177.
  178. > oldfashioned opinions about trans people.
  179.
  180. For the record, I must defend myself once more. I have trans friends
  181. and I don't think I have an oldfashioned opinion about them at all.
  182. Quite the contrary. You all don't know, but I was born in en
  183. environment full of people who are not accepted at all by the
  184. mainstream society (certaintly not in conservative Romania). Gay
  185. people, ex-cons, actual astrologers, people who hammer nails in
  186. their head, people who believe in actual ritualistic magic, trans
  187. people, the actual drug mafia, people with weird fetishes that
  188. interfere and dictate their regular life, etc, etc. Not that any
  189. of these groups are in any way related to being trans, but they are
  190. all fringe groups outside the social norm, and we get together just
  191. fine (in fact probably more so that I get with the rest of the
  192. mainstream society).
  193.
  194. There seems to be this implied belief that I am somehow intolerant
  195. towards some groups of people 9trans in this case), which is not
  196. true, and which I find bizarre as all my life I have been involved
  197. with groups that are hated on, and I have been myself the victim
  198. of discriminations in many cases... It's not true.

  227.
  228. I have to concede at this point that I know absolutely nothing about
  229. this person and quite frankly I don't care about her.
  230.
  231. I might be a bit too trigger happy about this kind of language; usually a
  232. statement like "[XXX] is really a man" is a sign that the speaker does not
  233. or refuses to understand the concept of being transgender.
  234.
  235. I know that many trans people are comfortable with this language and read
  236. it as "[XXX] was assigned male at birth" but I also think that many would
  237. share my interpretation and take offense if referred to as the opposite
  238. gender like this.
  239.
  240. You also seemed to imply she shouldn't represent female Go programmers
  241. because she is not 'really' a woman or a lesser woman somehow (which also
  242. seems to deny the basic concept).
  243.
  244. I have no interest in witch trials so I'll be happy to just let it slide
  245. as a misunderstanding on my part.
  246.
