- * AMP#100 (details below)
- in parentheses after the episode number is the "interstitial music" artist - the music played before and after commercial breaks and at the end of the show unless they just continue the music from the previous video or start the music from the next video. since AMP#116, "interstitial music" has been listed as "transition music" in the credits. yeah, i know, big deal. on AMP#200 (i think - if someone could confirm this i'd appreciate it), "transition music" was shortened to "transitions". it's now back to "transition music".
- per suggestion (thanks to decklin foster), i'm now listing how many times videos have been repeated (since Mtv is so good at showing us repeats. a number in parentheses after a video listing indicates how many times it's been shown previously.
- "i thought i'd tell ya that along time ago.. like about a year..
- amp was on on wednesday's at 4:00am.. it was on for about 4 weeks
- they only showed a few videos.. it was only 1/2 hour long. i saw
- it once.. it only had fsol, autechre, aphex twin, and underworld."
- - Anti
- this must have been some time around april of 1996, i'm guessing.
- AMP#100 (the pilot) had a different format that i think was pretty cool (old cartoons with voice announcement of upcoming videos), though i do like the format they settled on (blue/green images).
- the first couple times it was shown it was the same, as far as i know, and was the version of AMP#100 listed below but had amoeba in there as stated below.
- these two episodes aired october 19th and 26th, as far as i know. i believe they were shown saturday night/sunday morning at 2a eastern as became regular, but not friday night/saturday morning as well. i'm not sure when they started repeating the previous week's episode the following friday night/saturday morning. i suspect it wasn't for the first 2 or 3 weeks.
- it has been brought to my attention that amp first aired september 7th of 1996. i didn't know about that, as i didn't see any hype about it on rec.music.ambient 'til the october airdates.
- as for AMP#101, someone told me a while back that it was actually saturday night/sunday morning december 14/15 1996, and that date now looks correct to me. for some reason it didn't before. anyway, i'm not sure about the airdates between #101 and #105 now. i think it was the week between christmas and new year's that #102 was supposed to air, but that leaves one week blank. it might have been a reshowing of #100 or something, but i don't know. then there's a gap between the dates i have for #102 and #103. if anyone knows when those were shown, i'd really appreciate it. when i did the original dates i was working backwards from notes, and evidently i missed some repeats in there somewhere. unfortunately i don't remember now how far back i can say with certainty the original airdate i listed is correct. perhaps they skipped two weeks?
- "The episode scheduled to play near Christmas was skipped. MTV's
- listings went from 101 to 103. It appears that 102 never aired, ..."
- - Tom Metro
- AMP#113 shows a slightly new format - some original background graphics (i think) from Mtv besides the usual amp logos over the screen during the interstitial music. this has been discontinued, of course. i don't remember seeing them after AMP#115.
- as of March28 (AMP#114), amp was put on prime time in addition to the usual two time slots (9p EST). tres cool...
- friday night/saturday morning they showed AMP#113, saturday night/ sunday morning they showed AMP#105, or maybe it was the other way around (i remember it was #105, though).
- ah, those bastards. after what, one week? Mtv decides to stop showing amp friday night prime time.
- there's a compilation CD released featuring tracks from AMP. here's the info i have about it which was posted to rec.music.ambient among other groups March26'97.
- now that i've given it a little thought, here's my opinion of what i think the amp compilation CD should have had on it.
- AMP 2, the second compilation from astralwerks is also available. here's the scoop.
- a new amp logo appeared after the dj shadow video on AMP#124. hooray.
- they showed some "interstitial graphics" right before the credits this time (AMP#125). it's the only time they've done that besides AMP#212.
- perhaps Mtv's trying to keep amp "fresh" by changing interstitial stuff. new graphics, but less of them.
- as of september 28, amp was discontinued on sunday mornings at 1a. the "new" episode is on saturday mornings now, whereas that used to be an encore showing of the amp from the previous sunday morning.
- november1 (1997) started the new season for AMP, i guess, but i've been informed that what i originally had as #203 (november15) is #129 (Mtv is showing episode numbers again), so november1 is #127 and november8 is #128. thanks to logan susnick for this info.
- there was no amp saturday morning, the 20th of december, 1997. apparently this was planned instead of what happened last year with AMP#102 being pulled and never shown. so although i didn't check tubescan that week and this week they didn't list an episode number, i'm going to assume AMP#134 was shown the 27th and #200 was the episode for january10'98, which featured new graphics (january3 was a repeat - #129).
- amp was not repeated saturday night/sunday morning february 14/15 nor saturday night/sunday morning january 31/february 1 for some reason. it was repeated saturday night/sunday morning february 7/8, then pulled as of the 14th/15th. bastards. unfortunately i don't remember when they started showing the previous week's episode on saturday night/sunday morning, but i'm guessing it would have started with AMP#200 8 days after the original airdate. of course, they stopped repeating the episode again after only a few weeks.
- the same song and video for LFO: we are back from AMP#204 is the same as x-mix: elektro boogie from AMP#132 (or at least part of elektro boogie). i guess it's supposed to be LFO: we are back (kevin saunderson remix).
- some songs from AMP#204 were used during the aeon flux marathon sunday night, february15'98. here they are:
- * dj shadow: high noon
- * coldcut: timber (ebn remix)
- * the crystal method: keep hope alive
- * tim taylor & freddie fresh: scissorhands (o.d.s. remix)
- * LFO: we are back
- "special thanks - intergraph" is listed in the credits from AMP#205 through AMP#208.
- at the end of AMP#212 - "amp mix crew says farewell 9/96 - 5/98"
- AMP#100:
