  1. Nobody could argue that the summer day had started off beautifully and only became moreso with every hour. Hardly a cloud hung in the clear blue sky and the cover they could provide proved unneeded in the midst of the mild weather punctuated by a calm, cooling breeze. Metropolis was quite the jewel of a city under the right light if not almost verging on idyllic. Darcy wouldn't have been surprised if she'd have seen a couple on a tandem bike or kites flying in the park - had the streets not been almost entirely empty.
  2.
  3. The weather couldn't take credit for that - Darcy rightly gave that accolade to the carnage that unfolded before her while she took in how suddenly the towering humanoid machine had arrived; as if just dropping from the sky and wasting no time in inacting what she could only figure was wanton destruction. Like a pair of giggling tandem bike riders this /also/ did not surprise her - Metropolis had a reputation for this sort of..thing, and this was far from her first rodeo. Instead of fleeing from the danger using the methods so clearly demonstrated and mastered by the good citizens of Metropolis she had carefully ventured forth. Curiosity played it's part - the tech on display wasn't familiar to her in the least afterall, but moreso was the need to be ready to jump into action when her suit arrived in response to the emergency signal sent to JARVIS. She even looked forward to putting her gear through the paces. See how it compared to the newcomer. Show /up/ said newcomer.
  4.
  5. When the suit /didn't/ show up? That was when she felt maybe just a /little/ bit concerned. Even if the huge lug seemed content on just wrecking up the place the near-misses were becoming too much as the alleyway she had ducked into gave her the clear view of how much of a warzone the street had become.
  6.
  7. "Don't worry citiz-" The chipper and upbeat phrase was interrupted by a startled but nevertheless restrained /shriek/ more at home with the fear provided by cats in horror movies and faded quickly once the initial moment had passed and she got a look her newfound company who had cringed mid-air at the reaction. "Sorry about that. I'm Green Lantern, yes the one from the news and yeees I know Super Man but there's no time for questions Ma'am we need to get you outta -"
  8.
  9. ANOTHER scene she'd been a part of more than a few times - the rescue! Albeit a bit more.. professionally with the exception of Spider-Man's hit or miss humor. Also used to a bit more expedience in the whole thing and not such a blatant stare that wasn't aimed down her shirt. "Ohmygod. /Ohmygod/, you're Darcy Lewis! It's really you!" Darcy could only stare while she tried to register the sudden giggling glee of the /super hero/ floating before her eyes. "..Yes?"
  10.
  11. "Knew it! I'm sorry but I'm a huge fan, oh my /god/ who wouldn't be!? You blew them away your first year in charge with that emergency response suit! I mean your Dad was really good too don't get me wrong!" Darcy watched the girl gush with praise in contrasted silence . . and a smattering of pride at the mention of her work being held on such a pedestal only to be jarred from the accolades as green flash of light fired from the machine's chest and tore a yet another hole through the building left of her.
  12.
  13. "I never thought you'd come to Metropolis! ..Wait, what are you even doing here? ..Oh snap, you were gonna suit up!" "..Yes." It was the honest truth, but the tone was enough to give the starstruck heroine a hint of technical difficulties. "Oh, right. I bet your armor is having a hard time zeroing in with Metallo - /stupid name/ here. That energy source of his is really unstable - kind of chaffs up the area around him on and off. You know, like radars and radio signa...I mean of course YOU know!" That had drained some of the color from Darcy's cheeks and ingrained into her mind that the first thing she'd do when she returned home was to make sure THAT never happened again. ..After feeding Simon, that is. The second thing. "Green.." She spoke quietly at first to try and calmly get her attention while the girl rambled, still obviously overwhelmed by the chance meeting. The girl was clearly not ignoring Darcy of course, not that it made a difference in the midst of another blast of crackling green energy tore through the air.
  14.
  15. "I'm so sorry if I'm being weird! It's just you're a real inspiration!" "Green." She spoke firmer this time, louder, but still yet the floating girl couldn't help but press on. "I mean it can be tough for us girls you know? Like not being a feminist or burning bras but you know how it's like." "/Why are you talking to me and not stopping Metallo./" She finally half shouted at the girl in growing frustration - adulation is nice and all but if her suit wasn't on her way she'd prefer to err on the side of caution and leave dodge. Thankfully that had gotten through as Green Lantern was struck momentarily silent. . but aggravatingly /not/ stopping the robot.
  16.
  17. "I mean I WOULD do it but my job on this one is making sure nobody gets hurt. I already evacuated everyone else - double checked, so you're the only one left. ..Sooo.. It's my duty to make sure you're not harmed." She believed all of it, albeit she saw the last bit as thinly veiled excuse that it was - nor did all the protecting and talking make Metallo any less dangerous. "/Whose job is it then?/" That took her back to simpler times within a diner and faced with the same query with the same strained patience again and again from the patrons when they didn't get their way.
  18.
  19. Both had turned to glance in the direction of the rampage as another stomping step from the machine shook the ground with the intent to obliterate even the road beneath him. A larger tremor soon followed and it was all Darcy could do to steady herself against the wall to keep her footing. It was then that she watched in confusion as the robot's next tactical move was to headbutt the pavement with enough force to bury itself half way. "Her's." Green Lantern sounded for all her worth entirely unphased whereas Darcy felt growing relief when she spotted the blonde glaring down at the machine after having blindsided it with a punch to the back of the head.
  20.
  21. "I could have done that too." Green was quick to assure her idol upon seeing the clear relief and slight awe on her face in wake of Power Girl's suckerpunch. Darcy's glance to her side at the heroine had been brief enough for her to construe it as being a vote of confidence at least. "I mean but it makes sense. I can make /anything/ I can imagine afterall so-" "So when there's people around you're better suited to get them to safety." Darcy finished for Midori assuredly much to the girl's relief. It did make sense afterall.. and she always had a tough time seeing someone with a gift feel inadequate compared to their peers. ..Also helped that she was a fan.
  22.
  23. "Exactly! See, you get it. It's not all about kicking ass, or really I guess at all because if we're not doing it for the people then we're just breaking stuff and fighting." She beamed with pride at her assertion with the assurance that made it clear that there was at least a bit of a rosy tinge to the young hero's glasses. Before Darcy could respond her and Midori's attention momentarily lapsed in wake of Karan twisting Metallo's arm with the screech of metal filling the air all the while. "That's good and all but I'm fine now, go HELP her!" The calmness of her tone left as Metallo's limb twisted still yet, the unnatural angle saw the next crackling green bolt of energy envelop the entirety of Power Girl's head at point blank range with a thunderous boom - and when the smoke cleared it left the powerhouse..entirely unmoved but with steam drifting from her shoulders up.
  24.
  25. The immediate tug to bring Metallo down to eye level just to meet metal to skull in a vicious headbutt had looked downright polite when compared to the immediate and repeated knees she brought to bear against the groaning metal chasis. "I think she has it." Darcy couldn't argue with /that/. "Still you COULD make this easier for her." "POWER GIRL, WATCH OUT FOR THE LASERS." Darcy flinched at the abrupt, almost embarassing shout of advice - and chipper as Green Lantern insisted on sounding, she didn't know if she was being sarcastic or not. "Focus, Lantern!" Was all Karan bothered to order in the classic military fashion. "See?" "..But still. Isn't there something you can do?" "I am doing something!" "I'm listening." Darcy by now felt the situation was pretty well in hand, enough so to finally ease back into a /little/ bit of attitude - and the protecting civilians excuse wasn't flying anymore, fan or not.
  26.
  27. "Well for starters I'm carrying the roof..s." That had been enough prompt to glance upwards and thoroughly note the avalanch of debris that loomed overhead. More than enough to bury the entire alleyway beneath crumbling bricks and the destroyed niceities of the apartment's tenants held in place by the presence of a shimmering green net that hung in the air without support. "..So you are." Darcy managed to speak calmly if not a tad awkwardly in an attempt to remove the foot from her mouth while she tried not to think about how long THAT has been above them.
  28.
  29. "Good job with that, Green Lantern." Darcy inwardly kicked herself for settling on /that/ out of anything she could have said, but soon realized she needn't have bothered given the blooming pride that Lantern radiated as she finally settled from the relaxed hover to stand before the idolized CEO and thrust a hand forward. . and a bit up, given her height which only made Darcy question how old the girl was. "Midori Ota and it's my pleasure! ..But don't tell anyone I told you." Clear as day that she hadn't quite ..meant to reveal /that/ much as very real distress finally threatened her energetic demeanor, but it was put to rest when Darcy accepted her hand and shook it. "Your secret is safe with me." Inwardly she could only /hope/ that Lantern wasn't so.. trusting of everyone. . but there was no denying that it felt good to see that not everyone in the 'hero business' was jaded entirely. Not yet at least.
  30.
  31. "..So..I uh..do art and animation when I'm not doing.. this and I just wanted to say that Stark industries at the Expos were a huge inspiration and not just the Iron Man suit stuff." Darcy nodded, reserving her words for the time being - especially now that Midori wasn't overwhelmed and rambling but /sharing/. Least she could do for the save, afterall. "Like all the theories and concepts too. Even the ones that don't make it for one reason or another it's just sorta.. I dunno. Always seems like you guys are envisioning a better future for everyone /and yeah I know about the weapon deals that happened/." Darcy perked a brow at the sudden snap of defensiveness from Midori at no one in particular - seemingly a knee jerk reaction and a practiced one at that. "It just made it easier to imagine that nothing was really /really/ impossible and I think we need that sort of thing now."
