  1. UPDATED Proper Mido Skip (DOESN'T SKIP SHIELD)
  2. First video: the original trick by Blooebiebla: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeqUpLfaP7A
  3. Second (unlisted) video: An updated easier strategy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kW-nrbYcTM&feature=youtu.be
  4.
  5. Q: What does this do?
  6. A: It makes it behind Mido by manipulating out of bounds swimming behind the model so the text is skipped.
  7.
  8. Q: Does it skip the shield?
  9. A: No. It allows the shield to be equipped later than the shop because Mido no longer needs to have the "You're equipped; I'll move"
  10. dialogue.
  11.
  12. Q: How much time does it save?
  13. A: Once Cosmo gets it consistently, the time save will be ~5 seconds on iQue, the console he is using. However, it will save more time on virtual console and other consoles because of the length of the text box Mido has on both English and Japanese versions of the game.
  14.
  15. Q: Is this new?
  16. A: The setup that works on console is new. However, this trick had been discovered long before for the use of TASing any%.
  17.
  18. Q: What is TASing?
  19. A: Tool-Assisted Speedrunning. It is done by using frame-by-frame movement, savestates and the end result will always be more efficient than humanly possible.
  20.
  21. Q: What is any%?
  22. A: The fastest completion of the game with no in-game restrictions. The use of cheating devices (Gameshark, ActionReplay etc) is banned, but the speedrunner is allowed to manipulate the game with glitches and sequence breaks (including out of bounds movement, using a game mechanic to activate 2 cutscenes at the same time (wrong warp) to reach the endgame immediately and beating the final boss as a child instead of an adult.)
  23.
  24. Q: What is a wrong warp?
  25. A: For more information see: http://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/oot/wrongwarp/wrong-warp
  26.
  27. Q: Why can't the shield be skipped?
  28. A: The shield is used for multiple tricks in the speedrun including skater82297's B1 skip (video by Makaron: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=141XCq29Z5E) and SVA's Gohma clip (old set up video by SVA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTxa-W5zBQ4).
  29.
  30. Q: Why did you write this?
  31. A: Because people in chat are incompetent.
  32.
  33. Q: How is the trick performed?
  34. A: For those who refuse to read Bloobiebla's description, here it is verbatim:
  35. (START QUOTE): "First off, this is very difficult to do and somewhat awkward, but I do think it's viable. It requires two single-frame jumpslashes (possibly only one eventually) and a tricky part that you have to get a feel for. I believe much better players than myself could get this pretty consistently. This saves around 5-7 seconds and an extra 2-4 by equipping the shield when you equip the stick and nuts (JP).
  36. The clip:
  37. Sidehop left 3x
  38. Backflip + unsheathe
  39. Sidehop left 3x
  40. Jumpslash on the right frame
  41.
  42. Let go of Z and hold up-right on the control stick
  43. The frame for the jumpslash isn't hard to hit, but there might be another way to set this up so that the sidehop isn't needed. Sadly I couldn't find one, and it would most likely be slower anyway.
  44.
  45. The re-entry:
  46. Keep holding up-right and jumpslash on the right frame
  47. Hold left + Z
  48.
  49. I couldn't find a reliable visual cue for the jumpslash so I found this to be the hardest part of the trick. One way you can initially find the frame is by not pressing Z and seeing that a small part of the ground becomes visible at the peak of the jumpslash. Also, the water should become clear again just before Link's 4th swimming stroke.
  50.
  51. The rest:
  52. Just before/during Link's 4th stroke, quickly switch to down-left on the control stick. After a short period, quickly hold back on the control stick, let go of Z and mash B.
  53.
  54. This part is much more consistent than it seems. There are several ways you can time it and spots you can clip from. You just have to get a feel for it and eventually a timing will stick. I find this part to be far easier than the re-entry jumpslash; I recommend practicing from a savestate after it." <----- (END QUOTE)
