  1. There are many great leaders and generals around the world that have existed. Most of them are already not in this world anymore, but their feats have become known through history books and also the internet. I know a lot of them but in this case, I'm only writing about this one general who I respect the most. He is known as Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel, or Erwin Rommel in short. Throughout his career as an officer in the Wehrmacht, he is known as the general in charge of the Afrika Korps that is assigned in Africa to support Germany's ally, Italy, and to drive out the allied forces out of Africa. He was the only general in the Werhmacht that is Hitler's favourite due to his superior manuevering tactics and strategies that dealt a huge blow over the allied forces. He was respected not only within Germany but also outside by allied leaders and generals in the war.

  3. He started his military career during World War 1 fighting in France as well as in the Romanian and Italian Campaigns. His sucessful strategies in these campaigns made a huge benefit to the German Empire by penetrating through enemy lines with heavy covering fire with rapid advances, as well as moving quickly to flank enemy units. His actions during the war resulted in being awarded the Pour le Mérite (For Merit) medal and promoted to Hauptmann (Captain).

  5. Rommel was the only Generalfeldmarschall who was not a member of the Nazi Party, though both Hitler and Rommel had a genuine personal relationship. Historians say that Rommel was one of Hitler's favorite generals and that relationship benefited both his pre-war and war-time career. Rommel was described as "not apolitical" and writes that he owed his career to Hitler. This close relationship continued following the Western campaign, after Rommel sent Hitler a diary on the 7th Panzer Division, he received a letter of thanks from the dictator.

  7. Moving on to the middle of World War 2. Rommel, despite being a national hero in Germany at that time, supported a coup d'etat against Hitler to drive out the Nazi Party out of Germany. He was against the ideology and this is one of the reasons allied generals respected Rommel and considered him as a chivalrous general that is one of a kind in history. He committed suicide through cyanide pill after being found guilty of going against Hitler in 1944.
