lorde - melodrama (synthpop, art pop): i'm kind of over lorde and find her insufferably pretentious these days but it's still an Essential idk it's good and very pretty

lights - skin & earth (synthpop): do you like other lights albums and want to hear her make a concept album about a post-apocalyptic desert world then sure

lorde - pure heroine (synthpop, indie-pop): same comment as *melodrama* but it's more minimalist-sounding think *born to die* without the Lush strings

wonder girls - reboot (synthpop, dance-pop): k-pop group roleplays as 80s madonna and it owns so hard this is the greatest k-pop album ever imo

hannah diamond - reflections (ambient pop): wait have you heard this or not anyway it's pretty and nice

the marías - cinema (indie-pop, jazz-pop): one of those Lush albums that gets called "dream pop" because it's pop and it's ~dreamy i think you'd like it

neon bunny - kosmos (synthpop, sophistipop): more late-night chillout synthy ~dreamy music but a bit happier than *stay gold* very Lush and pretty

lights -siberia (synthpop): lights explores the concept of "what if brostep production was sad" (complimentary)

charli xcx - true romance (synthpop): goth Dark new wave gloomy "things that get called witch house but are not really" 80s core (old fave of mine underrated)

chvrches - the bones of what you believe (electropop): baffled you have never had a chvrches phase but anyway i think you'd like it

selena gomez - rare (synthpop): all her music gets bashed by shrieking seething haters so it's okay if you don't like it but it would be funny and kind of based if you did

lykke li - so sad so [redacted] (synthpop): her fans also hate this for going electronic and not indie-strummy-Sad Girl Indie like her older music but idc idc

selena gomez - revival (synthpop): see comment on *rare* only this album is better in fact

mark ronson - late night feelings (synthpop, nu-disco): did you like *random access memories* then you will like this also the title says it all

yukika - soul lady (synthpop, city pop): do you like "plastic love" do you want a whole album that's a modern take on that sound which many are saying rules then listen to this

chvrches - every open eye (synthpop): did you like *the bones of what you believe* then this is more of the same thing

kanye west - my beautiful dark twisted fantasy (hiphop, art pop): this is an Essential for every music fan ever yeah he's cancelled but this is an alltimer nevertheless

empress of - i'm your empress of (synthpop, latin pop): listen to *me* first but this is good

kanye west - donda (hiphop, gospel): if you really like the other kanye albums here and can deal with this being an hour and a half long then this is good and worth trying

austra - olympia (synthpop): why am i struggling to come up with a pitch for this one idk it's really good tho

hoàng thùy linh - hoàng (electropop, v-pop): have you ever wanted to hear a concept album about vietnamese folk tales and feminism with trap beats, future bass and bamboo flute because i sure have (need to still get together full translations of this)

nite jewel - liquid cool (chillwave): synthy music for summer dusky evenings quite a vibe

kanye west - yeezus (industrial hiphop, experimental hiphop): kanye goes even more nuts than usual and channels daft punk and death grips yes you read that right this album rules

carly rae jepsen - dedicated side b (synthpop): did you like *dedicated* this is literally just more of it

kanye west - the life of pablo (hiphop, art pop): did you like *my beautiful dark twisted fantasy* this is kind of the same vibe

lykke li - i never learn (indie pop): Sad Girl Indie strummy piano sad did i mention it is sad but it's good but might be too sad for you rn idk

little boots - working girl (dance-pop): i just have a feeling you need to listen to this because it's kind of like what if jessy lanza were british

f(x) - pink tape (k-pop, electropop): one of the few k-pop albums that is Good front to back it rules many saying

dua lipa - dua lipa (synthpop): idk it's pretty alright so is future nostalgia but i'm kind of over her

boa - boa (k-pop, dance-pop): over-the-top attempt at cosplaying as early lady gaga or britney spears *blackout* era very funny but also rules

blue hawaii - tenderness (dance-pop, nu-disco): amazed you have heard of them at all but anyway i really like this also you might like *untogether* it's glitchy

city girl - neon impasse (chill lofi beats): all city girl albums are kind of the same so i singled out this one it's mostly instrumental good background music for working on stuff late at night or just chilling up late eating ramen

allie x - collxtion ii (synthpop): also kind of over her but it's a solid album but if you didn't like *cape god* then maybe not

ellie goulding - halcyon days (synthpop): might be too sadcore but good

empress of - me (electropop): the music nerd-approved empress of album i think for those who know what "uk garage" means (i don't but i like it)

charli xcx - charli (synthpop): overrated but alright; also *how i'm feeling now* was on here (very overrated, "what if glitch was bad" type beat, the bad kind of hyperpop, gecs were a mistake)

metric - synthetica (synthpop): idk it's like fantasies but more poppy i like it

meg - step (electropop, j-pop): the same guy who is behind perfume, capsule and kyary pamyu pamyu was behind this and he doesn't miss

paramore - after laughter (new wave): maybe overrated but good 80s throwback

yellow magic orchestra - solid state survivor (electropop): i don't think it's as good as their debut but it's got some alltimers on it

lady gaga - artpop (electropop, EDM): ironically not art pop at all and a notorious Mess but tends to be love it or hate it; i think it's good

zhou xun - 偶遇 (chance meeting) (c-pop): have you ever wanted to hear an adult contemporary album in chinese with triphop beats (folktronica even ?!) this is it then (it's good)

capsule - world of fantasy (electropop, j-pop): kind of loud obnoxious (in the best way) EDM-ish album it rules

hayley kiyoko - expectations (synthpop): gets dismissed as "generic pop album only it's wlw" but i think that's unfair it's pretty good

arooj aftab - vulture prince (chamber folk, ghazal): very pretty late night ambient-ish quiet album

glass candy - beatbox (synthpop): it's the chromatics guy with a different singer but it rules

peaches - the teaches of peaches (electroclash): zoomers thinking cupcakke invented raunchy music will be my bane anyway this rules and is iconic

logic system - logic (electronic): this is kind of a side project of yellow magic orchestra which means it rules

janelle monae - the archandroid (art pop, neo-soul): hard to pin this down to one single genre but it has a Concept about a future dystopia with oppressed robots so you can't beat that

the knife - deep cuts (synthpop): pretty standard electronic-y album with some wacky lyrics but it's also really good so

oklou - galore (ambient pop): very pretty late-night album also very short but good

beyonce - renaissance (dance-pop, house): how have you not heard this whole thing yet anyway do it

dragonette - bodyparts (synthpop): yet another canadian synthpop album are you bored of those yet however it's fun

lana del rey - nfr! (alt-pop): it's Acclaimed but might test your patience for piano ballads and is really long but worth a listen just to have Takes on it

natalie prass - the future and the past (art pop): idk i used to listen to this a lot but it grew off me but it's kind of cool

florence + the machine - how big, how blue, how beautiful (alt-pop): kind of baffling to me you disliked *ceremonials* so much but anyway this is my favourite florence album

sufjan stevens - illinois (chamber pop, folk): sorry no glitch on this one and lots of horns and strings and banjo but really good songwriting an Essential i think

fifth harmony - 7/27 (teen pop): used to listen to this a lot despite it being "teenage girl music" idk many say it sucks i liked it whatever who cares we only have a short time on this earth

tears for fears - songs from the big chair (new wave): one of the best 80s albums an Essential i fear

talking heads - remain in light (new wave): quirked up white band goated with the sauce

f(x) - 4 walls (k-pop, house): this group are here twice because both this and pink tape rule

king crimson - discipline (progressive rock, new wave): remain in light but a little weirder but as good or better an alltimer album for me

perfume - triangle (j-pop, electropop): the guy from capsule strikes again it rules many saying one of the best j-pop albums ever

georgia - seeking thrills (dance-pop): very solid "clubbing music if you don't like going to clubs" album

robyn - body talk (synthpop): this is an Essential even if it's kind of aged badly lol but also it's full of bangers

yerin baek - tellusboutyourself (kpop, contemporary r&b): it's Not Like Other K-pop Albums because it's not electropop but chill lofi beats kind of thing good late-night music

aseul - new pop (synthpop): what if yeule but less dark pretty good album

ariana grande - dangerous woman (pop, r&b): would say this is a good album for getting into "pop that is in fact popular" music ... maybe a bit uneven but has some real heaters on it

kilo kish - redux (synthpop): this is an EP but left it on here because it owns so hard

cicada - seeking the source of streams (neoclassical): instrumental album of chamber music from taiwan very pleasing and good background music for Thinking

sigrid - sucker punch (synthpop): scandinavians mostly don't miss with pop and electronic and this is pretty good

let's eat grandma - i'm all ears (synthpop, art pop): this album ends with an 11-minute epic song called "donnie darko" that says it all really

mø - no mythologies to follow (synthpop): this is really good but too sadcore i think i never listen to it anymore

christine and the queens - chris (synth-funk): i can't get into most of chris' music but this is full of jams tho

ecco2k - e (cloud rap): good project not my normal kind of music but the drain gang memes got me into it

M.I.A. - arular (experimental hiphop): wait how have you never heard all of this before ?? listen to it

janelle monae - dirty computer (synthpop): this was maybe a bit overhyped in 2018 but it is very good and fun

the go-gos - beauty and the beat (new wave): this is only here because of a rate it's okay i guess

kelis - flesh tone (electropop): this is a really cool futuristic scifi-themed album it's underrated

muna - about u (synthpop): idk ok it's yet another synthpop album some themes about Coming Of Age it's good

ariana grande - thank u, next (pop, r&b): tbh weirder than you'd think for an ariana album anyway pretty good

banks - III (r&b, electronic): you may like this bc it's glitchier and heavier than her other music

kyary pamyu pamyu - pamyu pamyu revolution (jpop): all of her music is by the capsule dude and it's all fun electropop a bit silly

caroline polachek - pang (art pop): i have a grudge against this album because it's like "what if hanadriel but mid" so it's worth a listen but still overrated however i really like the song ocean of tears

miles davis - the birth of the cool (cool jazz): it's miles you can't not fw this

arcade fire - funeral (baroque pop): an Essential all the cool indie kids loved this back in the day it holds up it's really great almost generation-defining i am not kidding

luna li - duality (bedroom pop): i like luna because she's from toronto and she makes nice little ditties although it's not amazing but it's cute

billie eilish - when we all fall asleep where do we go (pop): this era of hers is a bit 3edgy5me but sure worth hearing what the kids these days are into

la roux - trouble in paradise (synthpop, tropical pop): idk why this is higher than their debut but both are very good surprised you don't know them as a briton

loona odd eye circle - max & match (kpop): a bit overrated but pretty good LARP as early madonna only it's korean

uffie - sex dreams and denim jeans (pop rap): eh uffie is iconic and important to the history of electronic music thru her connections with justice and french bloghouse but this album is kind of just okay? she has better stuff on other projects. not bad tho

maggie rogers - heard it in a past life (adult contemporary): not really my thing but has some pretty songs on it. feels wintery

jessie ware - what's your pleasure (dance-pop, nu-disco): this was hyped a lot in 2020 and kind of deserved it's very good even tho i didn't listen to it a ton

slayyyter - slayyyter (electropop): she goes for a y2k revival thing on this and it's okay but wow she really fell off for me since this came out. it's alright idk

cœur de pirate - roses (indie pop): idk it's good i guess i am not that into her music despite her being very canadian-college-radio-core

kim petras - clarity (pop, r&b): eh it's pretty alright i guess not essential though

tove lo - queen of the clouds (synthpop): idk i used to like this a lot but in hindsight it's kind of not that great but has some great songs on it i guess

halsey - manic (pop): yeah i don't really like halsey i've tried to get into her but don't Get It oh well it's like. alright

little dragon - ritual union (synthpop): idk their fans seem to have this as the consensus best album of theirs but i'm not that into it it's alright but i still like nabuma rubberband way more

mitski - be the cowboy (indie pop): i still don't get the hype over this nor mitski as a whole but it's good just not my thing

alphaville - forever young (new wave): this really only has two amazing songs on it and a lot of filler it's not worth

poppy - poppy.computer (electropop): in which poppy LARPs as kyary pamyu pamyu but it's cute however i am very Over poppy these days since she got super edgy. the server is big into her, i don't get it

doja cat - amala (r&b): doja doesn't have any amazing albums but also not any bad ones so this is kind of "just there" but it's not bad

le sserafim - antifragile (kpop): this is an EP but worth because it's really good also i like the whole concept of it is "the weird self-imposed fragility thing the internet does these day is dumb in fact, you should Cultivate Resilience" so pretty based for that

loona - [X X] (kpop): not loona being t*rfy i'm- no jk this is a pretty alright album even if loona stans are annoying and they're a bit overrated

king crimson - beat (progressive rock, new wave): if you liked discipline and want that but more 80s-sounding this is it

moistbreezy - pure imagination (electronic): another y2k revival thing and vaguely trance-influenced this is pretty good and consistent

metric - old world underground, where are you now (indie rock): tbh the indieheads love this one and it's a canadian classic but i'm not that big on it, i like them much more when they lean heavy into the synthpop-rock fusion

elohim - elohim (synthpop): i kind of made myself try to like elohim because she's friends with lights and writes woke music about mental health but have to admit this isn't amazing but it's not bad

reneesancefair - little words (synthpop, lofi): this is the debut album of one of the mods in the hanation it's pretty good really

alvvays - antisocialites (dream pop, jangle pop): ehh the indieheads love this band and i want to like them because toronto but also i don't really like them? this is their best tho imo it's not bad as a summery album

dua lipa - future nostalgia (dance-pop): another one of those misleading "disco revival" albums that's not really that much like classic disco but it's pretty good i guess a bit overrated

frou frou - details (electronica): kind-of-triphop i guess (?) i like this a lot in theory but don't seem to go back to it much but let go is one of my favourite songs ever

magdalena bay - a little rhythm and a wicked feeling (synthpop): this band is overrated by internet music nerds but this is alright

dorian electra - flamboyant (synthpop): dorian is pretty based on this lyrically pretty much all the lyrics are about gender having said that i do not like any of their other music lol

cibo matto - stereotype a (trip-hop, experimental pop): this is hard to even say what genre it is because it's wild and all over the place it's quite creative i only like the first half of it but when it's good it's very good

khruangbin - the universe smiles upon you (psychedelic rock, funk rock): this band is the most soothing chill band ever they make these mostly instrumental jams where it feels like a warm hazy summer evening (yes it's stoner music lol) and it's so calming and happy this album rules

nathy peluso - calambre (latin pop, rap): ehh this is kind of only here because of a couple good songs and she became a meme in 2020 it's not great or anything

nelly furtado - loose (r&b, pop): certified hood classic for canadians i fear this kind of owns

tove lo - blue lips (synthpop): "objectively" probably her best project but idk i am kind of over her and her edgy schtick i get the vibe tove is the kind of person who would go on twitter and type "i hate men" and nothing else and hit send lol idk

sandy lam - 蓋亞 (gaia) (art pop, mandopop): should listen to this again it didn't quite sink in but it seems like an artsy conceptual thing like a faye wong type beat which is why i listened to it but it's been a while. many saying this is one of the best mandopop albums tho

banks - goddess (alternative r&b): idk all of her first three albums are good you can't miss

nadia oh - hot like wow (dance-pop): hilarious campy trash-pop music lots of fun

kilo kish - american gurl (synthpop): i almost want to call this art pop even though it's not but there are Concepts it's pretty neat kind of political i wish i liked it most because the ideas are there and it has some bangers on it

ellie goulding - lights (folktronica): first two ellie albums are great then she falls off but this is back when she had an original sound as an artist who was kind of in between pop and indie and did synthpop with acoustic and wrote good songs

bad bunny - un verano sin ti (reggaetón, latin pop): dudes rock but in spanish and at the beach

ladyhawke - ladyhawke (new wave): underrated album it's like synth-rock and full of bangers also not long

yelle - pop up (dance-pop): idk it's fun it's vaguely disco-ish it's all in french it's not bad

weyes blood - titanic rising (chamber pop): indieheads went crazy for this one i didn't Get It aside from a few songs it isn't as ~ethereal as it wants to be. sad

yaya kim - a.k.a. yaya (jazz-pop, latin pop): have you ever wanted to hear a korean lady do a retro vocal jazz album that's two and a half hours long because if you can get into it and get over how long this is it's pretty good

ofra haza - yemenite songs (folk-pop): would be cringe to call this "world music" but it is in the sense of "folk music from a non-western part of the world" and the middle eastern melodies on it rule good album underrated

aseul - echo (synthpop, bedroom pop): again she's like yeule without being as dark so idk it's like k-pop that's a bit more artsy it's good

christina aguilera - bionic (pop): this tried to be futuristic and conceptual but it frankly sucks and is bad, it's only here because of a popheads rate. do not listen to this garbage

bat for lashes - lost girls (synthpop, indie pop): as talked about this is way different from her early music i don't really like but this is good. also goth

feist - the reminder (indie-pop): feist is responsible for that whole wave of Indie Girls With Bangs who sing in that bananies-and-
avocadies voice and strum ukuleles and stuff. having said that this album is a classic

broken social scene - you forgot it in people (indie-rock): despite its importance for the history of music and the wave of canadian indie that took over the 2000s i kind of don't enjoy listening to this it's mostly instrumental and kind of long and doesn't appeal to me but it does have some great songs on it

rosalía - el mal querer (folk-pop): again the cringe term world music rears its head but anyway it's a flamenco concept album it's neat and unique but i never quite got the hype over it

jolin tsai - play (synthpop, mandopop): ok this album is bait. the cover and title make it look like it's an album full of provocative club bangers and then it's like half mid ballads (a plague in c-pop i fear) so it's idk it's okay but not great. she kind of doesn't have any consistently good albums sadly

kelela - take me apart (alternative r&b): ~atmospheric and ~ethereal i don't listen to this enough because i kind of don't like kelela as a person and find her edgy and offputting but this is a really good album
