Second Jump Snippet: Tetsuwan Birdy Part 2

Previously on, 'A Jumpermaker regrets his Jumpmaking choices':
  And so it was that the trio-duo found themselves on the run from not only Earth's authorities but also the Space Federation, with little to no help in sight and their faces plastered across the world...

Now:
  The first thing Leo did once we were safely hidden in the mountains was transform back into her original form. While Birdy spluttered inside Valki's mind, Leo marched right up to Valki and demanded the special pets. With a sigh Valki acceded to the demand and tried swapping bodies briefly with her. Things didn't work out quite as planned however, as he accidentally swapped Leo with Birdy. This became obvious when not only was Valki still staring at Leo instead of himself, but her face became extremely confused and she started feeling up her tail. After a bit of messing about, they managed to do the right switcheroo and Valki sat petting a contented Leo while he explained some of their backstory to Birdy. Namely that they came from a different world with magic. While she was rather sceptical at first, some demonstrations convinced her that we were either telling the truth or had access to a lot of technology she had never heard of. Once, with a bit of help from us, we managed to teach her the basics of the magic she was fully convinced. She also quickly started begging to swap with Leo in order to pet Valki's fluffy tail. The only thing she seemed to like more was relaxing in the onsen. Actually, they had decided to restructure the body time sharing slightly, now that the swapping ability had been revealed. Now instead of swapping each day, Birdy could spend one day in Valki, one day as herself and one day as Leo. What she didn't know was that several spells were put on Leo just in case she ever tried to betray them which would allow them to recall and restrain her.
  Given that they had to live in hiding from now on, Leo and Valki started going out in their forms from Dog Days, using magic to hide their inhuman features. While not too different from their altan forms, there were still notable enough differences that they merely looks similar. It was while going out in these forms that they were able to gather information about how the world at large was reacting to the presence of aliens. Contrary to many stories, the aliens didn't decide to reveal themselves after the fight. Most of the aliens on earth were either altans, so were almost identical to base humans, or were in hiding so didn't want the attention. You had a few stories of 'aliens being discovered' but much more often than not they were just cases of people launching witch hunts on those they considered odd. On the other side of the story, there was a surprising amount of people that were calling everything fake. Large communities saying everyone was just paid actors and that the footage was so obviously doctored. Just as surprising was that from what the trio could tell, the denials were not being headed by aliens trying to cover stuff up. In fact other aliens were barely involved in these groups.
  Despite all these big events happened, Valki and Co still needed to find a job to make money. Something told them that opening another onsen would be a bit too on the nose to pull off. It was Birdy that came up with the idea. She bit the bullet and went begging back to Irma for a job. At the same time, a certain lioness found herself volunteering for idol work, coincidentally on the days that Shion was unable to work. Meanwhile Valki set up a small stand that sold magical talismens and other trinkets. Most were fake, but a few of the minor ones were enchanted, bringing small bits of good luck to the various people who bought them. Just enough that people would hear of it, but not too much that it would get undue attention. It didn't rake in the kind of money the onsen did, but combined the three jobs were enough to let them live peacefully.
  It took a few days before Birdy realised that Tuto should have revealed her identity as Shion to the Federation by now, having been forced to if nothing else. Valki reassured her that before they let Tuto go (not wanting to keep him captive), they had erased several key bits of his memory with a combo of magic and good old fashion hacking. With a little bit more magic on Shion and the Federation would be hard pressed to find her. The peacefulness continued for a good while, and the world settled down from the exposure to a degree as they managed to find nothing. Alas it could not last forever.
  The first sign that something was wrong was when the news started playing a recording of Shyamalan. In it he started spouting about the chosen few and other such nonsense. Things took a darker turn when he revealed the existence of his partners: some of the illusive aliens that people had heard so much about. Birdy immediately identified them as a pair of crazy Ulgarian criminals. That got people paying attention, just in time to catch him talk about ravaging the earth to allow the chosen to arise. Then he mentioned what would do this choosing. A word that Valki had hoped to never hear again, not in this world atleast. The Ryuunka. Evidently he had managed to get ahold of a second one. Presumably helped by the same people that allowed Geega and Bascillus to escape in the first place.
From what Valki could tell from the video, and what was implied, the madman had implanted himself with it, in order to do the 'choosing' himself.
  It took only a minute for Valki and Leo to transport themselves to their ship and full speed their way to where the Ryunnka's signal was coming from. It became much easier to track when a giant pillar of light ascended to the heavens. Leo was the first down to act as a diversion. While she was doing that, Valki quickly formed a perimeter around the ship, using his vast experience with sealing techniques to block the site from the outside world. At each corner of the octagon Valki created a glowing, illusionary fox. Each had a small ritual knife clamped in their mouths. At three of the points Valki had to transport pedestrians out of the site. When question about who he was Valki allowed his foxy features to show, gave a small two fingered salute and simply said "Just a Nature God doing his job", before leaving. The glowing gold barrier that was brought forth towered nearly a mile into the sky, and brought many people to the edge to investigate, with a few helicopters quickly starting to circle.
  The cameramen, and so the rest of the world, got to bare witness to a scene from pure fiction. What seemed like for all intents and purposes two animal Gods fighting to defeat a giant green monster. Against the Ryuunka, Leo and Valki pulled out all the stops.  In one hand Leo swung her battleaxe with the skill of prodigy while in the other she peppered the creature with a constant barrage of plasma. Slightly further behind her Valki stood, Crest fully flared as he summoned an unending amount of sealing blades. Vast trees had burst out of the river they were fighting on to wrap their strong oak branches around the Ryuunka to limit it's movements. Their Lailalo had revealed itself and was using it's hooks to help with the restraint. The Ryuunka, having nothing to use as a basis for these kinds of magical attacks, was visibly getting more frantic. It released wave after wave of death at the pair in front of it yet they did little to harm them. The Ryuunka couldn't understand them, what they were on a fundamental level, so it's instant death attacks could do almost nothing to them, especially when paired with the Bio-Armour that they were wearing. It had to resort to shooting searing beams of plasma at them to have any effect. Some of the tree branches devoted themselves to bashing the Ryuunka every time it started to aim it's plasma at the two, knocking the streams wildly off course.
  When Valki felt like enough had been summoned, he launched wave after wave of sealing knives at the superweapon. It's barriers deflected 99% of the knives that came at it, sensing a possible threat, but that was still more than Valki had hoped for. Each knife that managed to get through weakened its defenses that much more. Soon it looked like a golden hedgehog. Great gouges rapidly appeared and regenerated across it's flesh as Leo went to town on it. Despite all they were doing, Valki was aware they were merely stalling it. They were not doing any real damage, for this was not it's real body. The real body was that of Shyamalan hidden at it's center.
Finally, what Valki had been waiting for, counting on, happened. As if the heavens had cast judgement on the battle, a great beam of light descended from the clouds at breakneck pace. It tore through the sealing barrier easily, for the barrier was not designed to stop it. As it past through the roof, Valki activated the barriers main function. The hole arena warped as the barrier twisted, funneling the beam of light into a narrow spear directly aimed at the Ryuunka. Leo and Valki put as much distance as possible between them and it but Valki was still knocked senseless by the shockwave. Before he lost consciousness, he was able to catch a glimpse of the shattered remains of the Ryuunka and human inside.
  Naturally this is when problems started to arise. The long period of time they had been fused combined with the shock Valki received means that the Mental Fusion was triggered. Leo had to drag their unconscious body to the ship and beat a hasty retreat, as the helicopters and various police swarmed the area. They would find nothing as the body of the Ryuunka was swiftly taken care of by the far faster Federation officers.
  Once it became obvious that Mental Fusion was occurring, Birdy was forced to dive into Valki's subconscious in order to pull him out and stabilise them, hopefully permanently. This is how it came to be that Birdy learnt of the true nature of Valki and Leo, forced to view Valki's memories in order to find him. When she finally pulled him back, and they looked to the outside world again, they were greeted by a planet that was reeling in shock. The multiple sources and eye-witness accounts all agreeing about reveal of the existence of gods. There were even several grainy videos of Valki admitting as such. His two fingered salute and smile, ears and tail on display, were plastered on half the newspapers, with the other half showing various images of the fight. It wasn't long before people had identified that 'dolphin' ship as the same one used by the two who had fought the slime monster. It didn't take much after that before people started to point out the similarities of the pair of duo's appearances.
  Realising that their only other identifies had been compromised, and the Federation would now be able to track them down more easily, they did their last resort. They three of them left earth. The first stop they took was Altera. Once there, they snuck into the healing facility and stole back Birdy's body. They stored it in the Sleeping Pod on their ship where it would slowly heal. After that they took a tour of the universe, off to see all the wonders they could find. Occasionally they would help with some minor incident that was occurring on the planet before moving on.
  Three years into this routine Birdy's body was finally restored and she was able to make their little group a trio... for about two months before stray fire severely wounded Valki. With Leo off somewhere else Birdy had no choice but to use the Fusion on him this time. And so their roles were reversed.
  Of course this reversal had both a plus and a minus. Birdy and Valki now had to rely on her magic store for using the Crest Magic, which was notably less that Valki's store. However Birdy was able to learn the magic much faster as she was able to feel exactly what Valki was doing with her mana.
  Over the years they travelled Birdy mellowed out slightly, becoming more patient. When the ten year mark finally came around the corner she had lost her trigger happy attitude. Of course, if you ever did set off her trigger then god help you. When they offered to let her come with them on the next adventure she accepted with a smile. The couple and good friend set off to the next universe with smiles on their faces.
