  1. The Venetian Chronicles: Connar Green
  2. Yuuko: (fumbling with the camera before mounting it on a tripod.)
  3. Connar: (sitting on the couch across from Yuuko and the camera) I never should have agreed to this.
  4. Yuuko: (adjusting the focus on the camera) No backing out now you already promised to be my first interview.
  5. Connar: (sighing) I am not backing out, I am just grumpy about having to be on camera. (Taking a sip of tea from a mug on the coffee table), so how do we start?
  6. Yuuko: (Clearing her throat) this is Council envoy Yuuko Shirakawa, agent of the dragon, and historian for the archives in Dublin Ireland. As part of the Chronicles initiative, I am interviewing active agents from the 21st century so that future generations may better understand the context in which events are taking place. This session is being recorded on 3-11-2016 in Greenfield Ireland, at the subject’s residence.
  7. Yuuko: could you please state your full name, date of birth, affiliation and rank.
  8. Connar: My name is Dr. Connar Wallace Green, I was born on August 10th 1810 of the Common Era (that would be AD for anyone using the old system), I have been an agent of the dragon since October 11 1845, and my current rank is “Strange Attractor”
  9. Yukko: Can you tell us about your family?
  10. Connar: My parents were John and Martha Green, from Greenfield and Derry respectively. I am the oldest of three children, after me would come my younger brother Michael and younger sister Isabel whom we called Izzy. Michael died of measles when I was 12, my parents died in 1840, 6 mouths apart from another, dad went first and then mom died of a broken heart. Izzy married a ship captain when she was 17 before moving to Scotland. Her last descendant died in World War 1. Thus I am the last of the Green’s.
  11. Yuuko: Where did you grow up?
  12. Connar: I grew up here, well not hear exactly, I grew up in this same location though. I was born and raised in Greenfield on my family’s farm. We were one of the few Catholic families to keep our land after Cromwell fucked every one over and we were very proud of that. I had never traveled more than 10km from home until I left for Trinity at the age of 18.
  13. Yuuko: How would you describe your childhood?
  14. Connar: (thinking for a second) Kind of a large question…My family life was a happy one, I got on well with my brother and sister, and was loved by both my parents, though my father was what you call a functioning alcoholic today. But his love of the drink only ever hurt himself, never raised a hand to my mother or me or my siblings. My classmates were another story though, when I was young I had a severe stutter and caused others to think I was slow. Michael got into more than a few fights defending me at school, though they always came back and somehow managed to beat us both up. More than once, Michael and I came home covered in cuts from a fight over something some little twat had said. It was a Jesuit priest by the name of Duncan MacDuff, that noticed I had a gift for numbers and who began teaching me science and ultimately got me into Trinity.
  15. Yuuko: What happened to your stutter?
  16. Connar: When I was 11 a particularly mean goat called the Kerry rover kicked me in the head. I haven’t stuttered since. Incidentally I did become near sighted after that though.
  17. Yuuko: How were you first introduced to the secret world?
  18. Connar: (looking uncomfortable) the details are already well documented in the archives of Venice but… I guess I can recap it. There was an outbreak of zero point pathogen near the shore, and it began spreading through the village. It wasn’t anything like what you see in Tokyo today, it was a few suicides, mostly older fishermen walking into the water screaming about the darkness, but that was enough to get the attention of temple hall. The Templar didn’t want an out brake on their door step, so they sent a “security” detachment. They were led by a Grand master named Lord Joseph “Nicodemus” Comstock and his Lieutenant Adam Worth both of which were leaders of a cult called Third Sunday. When they came to town they burned everything they suspected of being infected and then for good measure they burned everything in a 10km radius of the infected site. My home was among those places burned my wife, my son, my home, all gone in the name of thoroughness. As I died in the fire, the bee came to me and awakened my power, I charged through a barred door only to be run through with a sword. When I woke up I was on a Chinese trading vessel in Dublin, being tended to by an agent of the Dragon.
  19. Yuuko: did you have any contact (either directly or indirectly) with your society before your powers awakened?
  20. Connar: I would later learn that Father MacDuff was a member of the Illuminati and though I can’t prove it, I suspect my meeting him was arranged by the Dragon. As for the Templar I had only ever read about them in books and thought most of the stories about them were just that, stories.
  21. Yuuko: Does anima sensitivity run in your family or are you the only one to develop powers?
  22. Connar: As far as I know, I am the only to ever manifest powers, but my father always use to say that the Green’s had Druid’s blood in them. Given how my powers manifest themselves, I think there may be something to the old stories.
  23. Yuuko: Can you tell us what a normal day looks like for you?
  24. Connar: It depends on the season, the busy season starts around July and ends just after New Year’s. A normal day during the busy season starts around 6:00am, when I get up and get dressed, I then check my email for the day’s tasks, grab my gear and head to the entrance of Agartha (the big tree over the cave near the beach.) The day is usually composed of rescuing civilians, slaying monsters and retrieving information from dangerous places. The day can last anywhere from 7-16 hours, I’ll sometime sleep in the field if something big is happening. After the day’s task are completed and my reports have been submitted I return home and pass out. During the off season which is from February to June, I do a lot of things, I have renewed my phd a few times over the years and built a number of different gadgets to help me in the field, I am always doing research, and then I have my hobbies, books, movies, video games, my twitter…and of course I do things with you.
  25. Yuuko: Connnnar, be professional!
  26. Connar: Sorry Envoy.
  27. Yuuko: Has your work for your society ever brought you into contact with anyone who would be considered historically significant (world leaders, celebrities, scientist and engineers.)
  28. Connar: Many times, but not as frequently as one might think. One of the first major cases of my career in the Dragon was what is known as the Roosevelt incident. This occurred before he was president and happened when he and his hunting party stumbled on a tribe of infected Sasquatches. Boon, Wolf, and I had to go retrieve him and his hunting party, incidentally the Roosevelt incident lead to the founding of the US Secret Services paranormal protection unit, but that is a story for another day. That being said I also use to talk physics with Einstein at a pub outside of Princeton, he was also an agent of the dragon, so that counted as work. Before he died he left without paying for the round, so Einstein died owing me a beer, I have got the I.O.U hanging in my office.
  29. Yuuko: Have you ever seen an event reported in the media and known that it was a lie and if so can you tell us what really happened?
  30. Connar: Many times, there wasn’t day during the war that Vampires, Werewolves and Nazi super soldiers were not scrubbed from the headlines by either the Soviets or the West. Most of the things I did during the war have erased from the public history…Thank god. But they live on in the Councils archives, in particular the uprising at Sobibór and what the Nazi’s were doing there, the battle for Warsaw and the surrender of Disney’s forces, as well as the assault on the temple in Berlin. My Involvement with the founding of the Irish Republic was also removed from history, particularly the Greenfield uprising and the “Lions treaty” that the council brokered between the Templar and the Dragon.
  31. Yuuko: What was the last event you can remember that shook both the secret world and the mundane equally?
  32. Connar: (thinking)…the bombing of the Subway in Tokyo is the most obvious one, but others would include 9/11, and what the Americans found in Afghanistan after the attacks. On the lighter side, one of the few times I have seen the three factions united was during the moon landing in 1969. Even though we all live in a world of magic and conspiracy, we were all still in awe at what had been accomplished without it.
  33. Yuuko: Have you ever participated in an event considered historically important to the mundane world and if so was it on behalf of your society
  34. Connar: Many, but the one I am most proud of would be my role in the Easter uprising that lead to the founding of the Republic of Ireland. I was there of my own accord initially, but the Dragon got involved after we took over the post office. After that I was there as a “Advisor” to the IRA and the end result was the Lions Treaty brokered by the council of Venice.
  35. Yuuko: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us Dr. Green
  36. Connar: My pleasure.
  37. Yuuko: (removing the camera from the tripod)
  38. Connar: (in the background) so what do you want to do for dinner.
  39. Yuuko: (in the background) anything but Indian, I am all curried out.
