name/"sign" ideas (tentative term for the special-ability-describing words)
	i've fleshed out characters/connections a bit more than what I put down here, but especially for less plot-critical characters if you hav similar ideas in the same veins i'm open 2 suggestions



Jolt: Rachel
	- vaguely spider-ish name (e.g. shortened Arachne); starts with R for vague reimu connection; means "purity" which isn't extremely fitting but i like how the name sounds
		- alt name ideas: Cassie (Cassiopeia reference, but prob too overt)
	- Sign: Constellation (stars, forming connections (spiderish + lore relevant))

Jolly: Miles
	- anagram of Smile; meanings include "pleasant"/"gracious"/"merciful"; starts with M for vague marisa connection; something about "miles per hour" could make for fun aqua jet wordplay
		- alt name ideas: Lucky (or some similar adjective, but might be too directly connected to Jolly)
	- Sign: Optimist (things generally work out for him, power influenced by peoples' mood/attitude)

	- simple nature-ish name (means hill)
		- alt name ideas: Autumn (straightforward, but would be redundant with Sign)
	- Sign: Fall (limited control over gravity, strongest in Autumn (strength difference between games))

Tymps: Vidor
	- mainly means "conqueror", but can also mean "happy" (funny parallel with (Jolly))
		- alt name ideas: Quade ("confident"/"persuasive", but also apparently "nickname for an evil man")
	- Sign: Crush (influence over weaker people/those he defeats)
		- alt sign ideas: Overlord, Dominance (similar ideas, but trying to avoid direct references/unfortunate implications)

Pachi: Salali
	- means "squirrel", pairs well with (Emolga)'s name
	- Sign: Charge (electric/magnetic polarity; lots of energy; rewards straightforward attacks)

Emolga: Risuri
	- "risu" -> "to rise"; repeated first syllable for a naming pattern connecting bird-related characters (although it also changes the meaning to something like "the way of things")
	- Sign: Valence (strengthens other electric abilities, some control over natural reactions)

Beans: Kirin
	- gender-neutral dragon related name, has some artistic associations
		- alt name ideas: Rory ("red king"; had a more red color-theming in mind anyway)
	- Sign: Order (organization/structure, giving commands (lore relevant), managing restaurants (lore relevant? brb food))

Kel: Aqi
	- "water"; 3-letter naming pattern connecting god-like characters

	- "dies irae" reflecting perish song; "judgment"/cleverness; sounds pretty fitting for a wizard/sorceress

		- alt sign ideas: Omen (connection to predicting disasters; similar idea but loses the moon connection)

Fel: Giles
	- references someone who was arrested during the Salem witch trials (also Scarlet Letter i think); funny similarity to (Jolly)'s name potentially; means "small goat" which isn't really relevant but also kinda funny
		- alt name ideas: Damian ("to tame"/"to subdue"; fits summoning magic), Varke (don't think there's a particular meaning, but sounds warlock-ish and i think i got it from a jawa name generator)
	- Sign: Legion (powered by the number/strength/sentiment of his followers/allies (lore relevant))

	- "origin", means light; 3-letter naming pattern connecting god-like characters
		- alt name ideas: Rin (close to "RNA", means "dignified"; i kinda just like how Ori sounds more)
	- Sign: Origin (can emulate other signs/abilities to some extent)
		- alt sign ideas: Ancestry, Evolution (similar ideas, may imply she has more control over other peoples' abilities)

Ikikur: Frey
	- means "free" (typically in a feudal context)
		- alt name ideas: Chiru ("freedom-loving person", maybe more fitting; has various alternate meanings tho)
	- Sign: Liberty (releasing things from their boundary/containers, more persuasive when slightly stretching the truth)
		- alt sign ideas: Catharsis (similar idea of freeing something, but more connected to emotion - overlaps with several other signs)

	- Sign: Guide (good at teaching/giving instructions, can incidentally lead lost people/spirits to where they need to be)
		- alt sign ideas: Wisp (or something more explicitly spirit-related, but the alternate meanings are fun)

Phoenix: Vulavu (Vulcan)
	- "vulcan" related to fire/volcanoes (accidentally referencing a roman god); "vulavu" derived to follow naming pattern connecting bird-related characters, but in-universe "vulcan" is a preferred name he chose for himself to sound more intimidating
	- Sign: Phoenix (can heal own wounds/ailments using fire under certain conditions)
		- alt sign ideas: Burn (may have different secondary implications; avoids a direct reference to a chat name, ~but i know Phoenix irl so i don't care about using his chat name as much~)

Tigger: Shubi

		- alt name ideas: Ipsita ("desire"/"desired", connected to a goddess in Hinduism representing fortune/beauty and stuff)
	- Sign: Desire (can manipulate the wants/values of nearby people, limited ability to grant wishes)

Neels: Kenelm
	- means "brave helmet", "protection"/"bold"; vaguely similar feeling to name idea for (Beans) (both dragon-related characters)
		- alt name ideas: Kandarie (also "protector"/"defender", but also associated with "god of war")
	- Sign: Retaliate (grows stronger in proportion to damage endured, not necessarily physical)
		- alt sign ideas: Protect (something defense-related, but i think retaliate adds a more active spin to it)

Shammy: Mimosa
	- means "actor"/"mime", related to a term meaning "make a move seen or done by another"; also a flower associated with the sun and "expanding your life"
		- alt name ideas: Varina (means "variable", but more commonly interpreted as "stranger"/"foreigner")
	- Sign: Dynamic (manipulating speed/velocity and physical forces; good at adapting to things)

	- associated with "judgment", though typically in a more religious sense
		- alt name ideas: Metu (means "test and see", though also seems to be more religious than intended)
	- Sign: Evaluation (analysis of targets' capabilities in numerical terms; good with math and logical predictions)
		- alt sign ideas: Challenge (more in line with original chatanmaku ability, but Evaluation gives more of a foil to (Shammy)'s sign and works a bit better in the revised story)

	- means "snake"; also can mean "a person who infatuates others"
	- Sign: Cultivate (accelerating the process of "development"; growing the size/strength of things that already exist)
		- alt sign ideas: Growth (the usual, but implies more of a physical growth ability that I haven't really made use of)

Emerald: Kyan
	- derived from "Kyanite", a gemstone associated with "self-expression", "strong connections", and "perseverance against challenges"; Kyan itself can also mean "enduring one" or "long awaited"
		- alt name ideas: Daedal (greek inventor reference, "skillful"/"cunning")
	- Sign: Possession (transferring consciousness/spirits, potentially including abilities; remotely controlling certain objects/beings)

	- from a term for a "rapidly rushing stream"; uses four letters which fits into a silly gimmick idea i had for a fighting game if that ever happens
	- Sign: Current (manipulating the flow of fluids/electricity; likely to happen across big events as they happen ("current events"))

Spiffy: Dori
	- from "Dorian" (musical name) but slightly less gendered; means "gift"
		- alt name ideas: Lyric (more overtly music-related, means "songlike"/"poetic")
	- Sign: Mood (influencing/projecting emotions)
		- alt sign ideas: Atmosphere (feels a bit more flexible, but unecessarily overlaps with some other Signs involved in the game i plan to introduce them in)

Cyn: Will
	- means "desiring peace"/"protector"; a bit of a case of not being able to find something exactly fitting what I was looking for though

	- Sign: Scrutiny (good vision/visual memory, can see through the eyes of others under certain conditions; good at detecting lies/inconsistencies)
		- alt sign ideas: Survey (similar functional role, but Scrutiny evokes "Cynicism" in a subtle-enough way)

Scep: Azalea
	- flower name literally meaning "dry" (in terms of thriving in drained soil); represents "abundance" and "passion" (and apparently can be a death threat if sent in a black vase??)
	- Sign: Absorb (negates and stores certain types of energy/magical power)
		- alt sign ideas: Consume, Drain (similar ideas, but i'm looking for a word that evokes more of a "charging up a huge attack over a long time" feeling (not sure if Absorb quite fits either))

Codex: EOS
	- acronym - "Evidential Omniscience Simulator" or something similar, purposefully invokes the god-like naming convention even though they're an android of some sort
	- Sign: Knowledge (perfect memory, can replicate most non-Sign abilities/techniques/skills once seen)

Mercy: Hermes
	- Greek name of the Roman god Mercury; god of translators/interpreters, name meaning "messenger"
		- alt name ideas: Cosmo (space-y name, means "order"/"beauty"; more separation from chat-names, although Hermes feels fitting in multiple ways)
	- Sign*: Translation (*because he comes from a different planet, he doesn't have a Sign until having an artificial body built (by (Emerald)) that can emulate one*; automatic spoken language translation in both directions, good at working with representations of ideas)

Gent: Heri
	- means "hare", also associated with "happiness"/"blessedness"; has a loose aesthetic similarity to the names for (Pachi) and (Emolga)
		- alt name ideas: Nacho ("fiery one", probably better fitting the personality I have in mind; cheese reference)
	- Sign: Conductive (manipulating transfer of electricity/heat, including due to other signs/abilities)

Deejay: Caluca
	- "Calu" means "fortunate"/"commander", "Luca" means "bringer of light"; repeated first syllable for a naming pattern connecting bird-related characters
		- [probably not the most fitting for what I have in mind, but hard to find something better that fits into the arbitrary bird pattern]
	- Sign: Forecast (control over air pressure and weather, limited/unreliable predictions of the future)
		- alt sign ideas: Barometer, Pressure (similar weather-ish abilities, but emphasizing the foresight piece is a bit spicier)
