- Written by itchylol742. I asked AI a few times about stuff to add but it didnt write anything directly. So this is like 95% human written
- I’ll do a 2 weeks of no brainrot/addictive/slop internet usage starting October 20 2026, ending November 3 2026. The point is to control technology, not to reject it entirely. I ain’t no fuckin luddite. Using dumbphones and cd players and shit isn’t escaping digital addiction, its just STUPID and INEFFICIENT! Imagine returning to horses because cars have ads on their infotainment screen
- What is my motivation to do this? Well, one third because maybe it will help me be less addicted to scrolling Twitter and Reddit and Discord chats and watching Youtube slop. One third because my life is kinda boring and this would be an interesting thing to do. one third because I want to feel superior to WEAK MINDED FOOLS who can’t break free from the addiction, and so I can bring this up in the future in discussions about digital addictions, and so I can FLEX on them and say “ANYONE CAN BREAK FREE OF DIGITAL ADDICTION!! ANYONE WHO CANT IS A WEAK MINDED FOOL AND YOU DESERVE TO BE ASSIMILATED INTO MARK ZUCKERBURG’S METAVERSE”
- Here are my rules.
- Allowed:
- Use the internet to work (emails, messaging programs for co workers)
- Reading good stuff (fanfiction, ebooks, etc)
- High quality video games (no mindless time killer games)
- Music
- Online banking, Google Maps, weather apps, shopping lists, cloud storage
- Using Microsoft Word to write the diary for the 2 weeks
- Limited but not banned:
- 3 Youtube videos a day max. I must watch on main monitor, nothing on second monitor, at 1x speed. No skipping. If I abandon the video I must dislike the video and leave a comment why I think its bad. This encourages (but doesn’t force) me to watch higher quality videos and longer videos instead of short videos/slop. Listening to a video in audio-only counts towards the 3 a day quota.
- Discord VC or text with close friends.
- Chatbots if I need to find something where I can describe it but don’t know the exact words to put into a search engine.
- Useful messaging. No random memes or low importance messaging.
- Banned:
- Twitter, Bluesky, Reddit
- Any news unless its hyper relevant to me. If I’m watching primarily for entertainment (such as the Lemonade Stand podcast) and don’t really care about the news itself it’s allowed
- Chatbots for low quality/entertainment use
- Youtube slop (any video slop, really)
- Second monitor Youtube (even if it’s a good video)
- Reading comments on Youtube
- Twitch (unless its someone I personally know and they know me back. That is allowed because its more like hanging out with friends online)
- Mindless time killer games
- Discord/Matrix server chats for unimportant topics
- Additional stuff: I turned off notifications from Discord servers. I will still receive them for DMs and whatever cause it might be important. Same with Matrix chat. I also installed a program to block specific websites on my PC. On my phone I will move them into a forbidden folder.
- If I find an edge case I will have to make a new rule for it as I go along. I will detail these in my journal for the 2 weeks. I will also write about other stuff in the journal during the 2 weeks. After 2 weeks I'll post the journal online publicly
