- Note that the chances of some of these hardlocks happening may increase if your disc is beat up and/or if your Playstation is an older model. However, these can all also happen on emulator.
- Crash Bandicoot 1
- - "Map Crash": The game can very rarely freeze upon entering levels on the map. This might be able to happen seemingly anywhere but is more common on Pinstripe's levels, N. Sanity Beach, Rolling Stones, and Native Fortress. It was previously thought that this was more likely to happen due to mashing, but this does not seem true.
- - The game can crash after completing a Tawna save bonus round. This was fixed on NTSC-J. To avoid this crash, simply wait around for a second before jumping on the portal.
- - The birds in Slippery Climb, landing on them in a certain way seems to crash the game. This seems to be PAL only, but if it is not, it should not be common enough to cause worry.
- - For the Cortex Power revisit skip, it is possible to hardlock if the player moves back to earlier parts of the level while out of bounds, but there's no reason to do that for the skip so it is nothing to worry about.
- - If the player has invincibility at the bridge of wooden+TNT boxes in the Cortex Power blue gem path and triggers too many TNTs while also killing the spiky robots (which "duplicates" them for some reason), the game can crash from all the activity. Most players would wait for the invincibility anyway if they got a third mask there by mistake, since they will most likely not know how to clear the jump without falling through the bridge.
- Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
- - Mashing square during the load screen to Cortex can cause a hardlock.
- - Hitting the 2nd checkpoint in Hang Eight from any face but south will lock the game after death abusing after collecting the timer gem.
- - Road to Ruin: NTSC can hardlock walking off the bonus platform.
- - Ruination: if you do the glitch high jump after respawning in a very odd curl when moving over to the green gem path you'll crash.
- - If doing the jetpackless skip in Pack Attack, the game will hardlock if Crash gets electrocuted or hit by a nitro due to the level not being able to play the animation. Though, anyone doing this skip should know how to avoid these mistakes. Also note that doing jetpackless on NTSC is very unstable and can hardlock randomly.
- - (NTSC-U only) the game can hardlock after the Night Fight bonus. Save highly recommended.
- Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
- - The game can hardlock after throwing up almost any item in the warp after beating the level. This seems most common in W3/W4.
- - At the split in Deep Trouble (before the red gem path), if the camera doesn't follow you up the game will crash. To avoid this, simply do not travel up the tunnel to the normal exit on the right. Always stick to the left.
- - Loading into Double Header can crash the game, there is no known method of avoiding this. It is likely due to the infamous amount of lag the level has due the weather effects. Note that it can unfreeze after a few seconds, but an exit back to the warp room before continuing the level should be done or else it may crash again after finishing the level.
- - The game can hardlock in Sphynxinator if the player tries to backtrack to the first checkpoint with a diagonal death tornado spin from the platform with the ? box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYF4tghrhLs. Though, the only way to be in this situation is if the player is going back for missed boxes.
- - Doing this corner cut in Tomb Time can hardlock: https://clips.twitch.tv/WildNastyMushroomCharlieBitMe?tt_content=url&tt_medium=clips_api
- - The game can hardlock in the Tomb Wader death route if the player is too far left in a specific hallway. Simply stay on the right here to avoid this: https://clips.twitch.tv/SpeedyPoorSwordSoonerLater-e2aUaFtlFNulwKDB
- - The final hit on N. Gin can crash the game, like Double Header there is no known method to avoid it.
- - There is an exclusive hardlock in PAL and NTSC-J in Warp 6 that can happen after throwing up items. This is due to the fact that the issue with the HUD not showing up was fixed on these versions.
- - This last point is not actually a hardlock, but if the player has not saved in their run, they will be completely softlocked with the only escape being an exit to the title screen. There is a very odd glitch in Crash 2 and 3 that can happen after going on a moving platform that Crash sticks to (bonus round platforms, gem platforms, end of secret area platforms in crash 2, etc) AND is also taking Crash to a different area. It begins with a blink on the screen happening, the camera not following the moving platform correctly, and then the camera going back to the original spot before going back to the where the moving platform is and not taking Crash to the next area. The player can normally exit to the warp room after this happens. However, this can happen on the platform that takes Crash to Warp 6 in Crash 3. This has only happened once ever: https://clips.twitch.tv/PlumpBlightedClipzDBstyle?tt_content=url&tt_medium=clips_api. This is not common enough to warrant a save unless the runner is extremely paranoid.
