so i feel like to start i should mention i noticed i have a history of not liking pledis's chinese versions of songs (nuestm, my i chn, get it chn). this has always been strange to me because i come from a history of following sujum and exo where i almost always preferred the chinese versions of songs. i'm talking about by sound, not lyrics or comprehensibility or anything like that just the enjoyment of tones. not even about pronunciation (obv jieqiong, junhui, and minghao can sing in mandarin just fine). just the sound. so i went into oh my expecting to hate oh my but i didn't so that's a point in its favor.

the lyrics...there are parts of it that are just weird but in general like it's fine they're just stupid pop song lyrics which is normal if u compare to other pop songs but disappointing if you think about the8's mixtape or rendition of clap, and jun's rendition of thanks. their chinese versions for those songs completely took on their own character tho and jun's song was "i understand" not thanks so they probably had more lyrical freedom? at any rate their lyrics for those songs were really really good. so in comparison, oh my is not good but it's also like not terrible

pronunciation is all over the map. my reaction after first listen was that i liked vocal team and vernon, dislike hoshi dino coups. joshua's pronunciation is easily the best of the korean members so i'm glad he has so many parts now, and vernon's rap by farr the best out of hhu. the reason i like vocal team singing is because they sound like very normal? tbqh i had no idea what woozi was singing even after multiple listens. i guess technically that means his pronunciation is bad but it's listenable, it doesn't sound jarring the way the three i mentioned do, like you can gloss over it because it fits seamlessly into the song. seungkwan normally has the prettiest sounding mandarin to me altho it doesn't come through as very clear in this song, but again he sounds normal. dk and jeonghan very clear and i am very certain i want jeonghan in svt-m. i think the reason why i liked vocal unit is because they "digested" the consonants well and it sounds well incorporated into their singing. otoh, the part where coups raps i cringe every time, he sounds like he’s saying 💩 at least once so that’s how things are. with dino and hoshi they sound like they're trying so hard to enunciate they lose the music? and then the other ppl i didn't mention - mingyu's tones sound spot on...has he been practicing with xmh...but he kinda sounds the same way he does in korean if u know what i mean but i don't think i'm criticizing his pronunciation. jww...idk...i can't form normal opinions about him so i'm just gonna stay silent... altogether it's not a terrible effort, again if u'r coming from exo or sujum this meets that level of koreans singing in chinese but i was saying to isabelle i was kinda disappointed bc there's 13 of them so each person isn't really responsible for that many parts but some of them like i mean it's the studio version u can do better for that one recording even if you never get it right again? at the same time i know junhui struggled like mad with pronunciation on 17tv like nothing makes me laugh more than the half hour hosh spent trying to get him to enunciate the j in namja for geu namja in itta itta yo only to have junhui flub it in the performance heeheehee...

anyway it's okay i think in the future i would prefer for them to do orig songs or at least orig lyrics bc we have proof both the8 and jun are fully capable of it
i shall anticipate svt-m: jun, jhe8, jeungkwan, jeonghan, joshua, jernon...? altho if we want to cater to ship popularity we will need to add jingyu and jonwoo for the kuiba and yuanhui but if we only cater to individual popularity based on weibo supertopics jhe8 jeonghan jun are 1 2 3 so no need...
