- The Hyvenkh are a bipedal, herbivorous species originating from the world [[Enkharr]]. Uniquely adapted to the stormy, dark conditions of Enkharr, the Hyvenkh utilize a combination of electrokinesis and aerokinesis to shield themselves from high winds and survive the electrical pulses produced by many of Enkharr's trees.
- Enkharr is a dangerous place to make one's home, rife with battering winds and so inclined towards electical activity that the charge in the air is prone to make one's hair stand up straight. The crashing of thunder is heard each day almost throughout the planet, and torrential rains herald many floods. Even its beautiful forests belie danger, as its carnivorous trees discharge blasts of lightning in a bid to consume any life unlucky enough to be caught. Like [[Kasunn]], no sunlight reaches the ground past the baleful clouds, and so the plants draw power from other sources, whether by consuming dead animals, feeding off of psionics, or even drawing energy from the ambient charge of particularly intense storms.
- So, the Hyvenkh are adapted to survive in such a harsh place. Their hardy, dense bodies resist the draining cold of the rain, their electrokinetic shielding keeps them safe from the electrifying traps of the predatory plants, and their aerokinetic powers ward away the buffeting winds, allowing them to prowl the surface in search of food freely and safely.
- They have thick, smooth skin that keeps their bodies from being weighed down by water and resists electrical current, the puncturing claws of the many predators on Enkharr, and most impressively, psionic attacks. Their forms are generally heavy and may appear chubby, with layers of fat to insulate from the harsh cold. Though they are herbivorous, their imposing strength and endurance permits them to go head-to-head with the most dangerous predators on Enkharr and often come out on top.
- Their heads perhaps most resemble that of an elephant's. They have long trunks and visible tusks which are usually about a foot in length. They have two eyes with white sclera, standard circular black pupils and colorful, iridescdent irises. Though their ears are indeed large, they are not elephant-like in shape; they are broad, pointed and perky, and come in two pairs, where the uppermost pair is larger, reaching about a foot and a half, and the lower pair usually reaches just under a foot. They do not have any hair on their head, but do instead have a ridge of scales that begins with a sharp horn just at the end of the top of their trunk and run up over their head, spreading out and becoming wider and bearing larger scales as it then moves down their back and over their tail. They sprawl out over their shoulders and form a covering of scales over their chest, and cover the tops of their arms and backs of their hands too. The scales are perhaps most comparable to Pangolin scales, and shine bright, ivory white compared to their dark grey skin.
- Creeping over these scales like vines are strands of verdant slime mold. Fruiting bodies jut from the colony in places, consisting of cattail-like bulbs which grow brilliant blue and green, though they are only seen over the back, not on the shoulders or arms. This colony of slime mold is called a Stormwreath; it leeches energy through atmospheric electricity, solar exposure and ambient psionic energy, and provides a significant share of it to the Hyvenkh, reducing their necessary energy intake. The bulbs contain a noxious substance which, though smelling sweet and floral, causes panic, confusion and sensory degradation in many beings. It, conversely, has a positive effect for the Hyvenkh, being absorbed instantly into their skin and increasing focus and situational awareness. Stormwreath mold is also known to have healing properties; applied directly to an open wound, it seals the wound, applies pressure, and ultimately bolsters the already high regenerative factor of the Hyvenkh.
- They have two legs and two arms. They are subungulate creatures, with powerful legs possessing flat, circular soles similar to those of elephants and two ivory-colored plates around the front portion of the foot with a gap between them. They have three bulky fingers and a thumb to each hand. They have long, thick tails, which culminate in a pincer of two keratin-plated appendages. These appendages are sharp and capable of rending flesh, but their more immediate use is that they can channel a steady, dangerous stream of electricity into anything they grasp.
- Though Hyvenkh produce electrokinetic and aerokinetic energy, they do not have much control over it. This energy is mainly used to shield themselves from the environmental dangers of Enkharr, but has a few other uses. Particularly, they can eject a radiant blast of electrokinetically-charged mist from their trunks, shocking anything caught therein. This is mainly used to nourish their young, which feed exclusively off of psionic energy until they can chew; a Hyvenkh parent will slowly discharge this psionic mist onto an infant, which is immune to the dangerous effects, feeding them the psionic energy. They can channel bursts of electrokinetic energy through their fists to stun targets, and channel electrokinetic energy through their tail, but that is about the extent of it.
- Hyvenkh aging stops after reaching maturity, which takes about 17 years; otherwise, they are biologically immortal. The Hyvenkh have the highest regenerative factor of all species known to the Vigil, even above that of the [[Vokat]] and [[Yktaz]], allowing them to regenerate from broken bones in a matter of days and damage to organs and flesh in a day or less. Hyvenkh are extremely hardy, necessitating enormous internal damage to permanently kill one, and are the only species known to inherently dampen the impact of psionic attacks, although their skin does not protect them even half as well as the shieldwings of the [[Bautaza]] or the crystal barriers of the Vokat.
- Hyvenkh are physically stronger than all other species in the Vigil, capable of lifting over half a ton on average. Despite this, the average Hyvenkh is a mere 6' tall, but can sometimes reach up to 8' tall. Hyvenkh immune systems are slightly above average, and they are well shielded against high levels of radiation and hardy with respect to temperature. Their heavy, energy-intensive bodies require significant periods of sleep ranging from 10 to 15 hours, countered with a mere 10 to 12 hours of wakefulness, meaning Hyvenkh tend to spend more time asleep than awake. Hyvenkh also cannot vocalize in as complex ways as many other beings, and so rely on innate telepathy or assistive devices to communicate. Notably, as well, their blood is dim grey.
- Hyvenkh have two sexes, but it can be difficult to distinguish between them besides genitalia; some Hyvenkh have penises, others have vaginas. Hyvenkh with penises tend to be just slightly more top-heavy and have mottled skin, whereas those with vaginas have smooth, darker skin. Hyvenkh give live birth. No Hyvenkh have mammary glands, and as such cannot be adequately classified as mammals. Hyvenkh have about one mating cycle every year, lasting two weeks.
