  1. RULES:
  2. A) DON'T BE A DOUCHEBAG
  3. If you're being a douchebag, you're going to have to sit on the time-out step. A non-exclusive list of things that constitute being a douchebag:
  4. 1) Using slurs. Seriously, don't.
  5. 1.1) If you attempt to start the discussion about whether or not "traps are gay", good luck somewhere else.
  6. 2) Harassing other users.
  7. 3) Spam.
  8. 4) Excessive salt about the staff, community, or rules of other servers.
  9. 4.1) Yes, even that one.
  10. 4.2) This goes double for Polaris proper and OOGR. Those are our friends.
  11. 5) General belligerence.
  12. 5.1) Mouthing off to admins
  13. 5.1.1) This isn't a democracy. It's barely a meritocracy.
  14. 5.2) Ban evasion and similar
  15. 5.3) Passive-aggressive vagueposting and similar.
  16. 6) Doing your very best to just barely skirt the point of breaking the rules.
  17. 7) Doing any of the above outside of S&V. As it turns out, being a douchebag isn't exactly context-dependent.
  18. 8) Knowingly inviting people to S&V for the purpose of doing any of the above.
  19.
  20. B) WE'RE HERE TO PLAY A GAME
  21. This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. Of course roleplay is deeply emotionally resonant and nobody maintains perfect player-character separation at all times, but you're expected to try.
  22. 1) If you're not having fun, you can always take a break.
  23. 2) Don't metagame.
  24. 2.1) Don't use your player-level knowledge to influence your character-level decisions. This goes double for S&V, where information that is common knowledge in Polaris proper is often unheard of.
  25. 2.2) Don't use your character to carry out player-level vendettas against other players. This is also a good example of "being a douchebag."
  26. 3) Don't powergame/godmod.
  27. 3.1) Baring the point where the Event Team gets sick of it and decides to weld a balanced RPG to the side of S&V, character capabilities are based off of consensus and what you say goes.
  28. 3.1.1) Don't abuse this.
  29. 3.2) Your character will lose fights.
  30. 3.3) Your character will lose arguments.
  31. 3.4) Your character will have bad things happen to them, despite their best efforts, and will have no way of immediately addressing this.
  32. 3.5) The world is cruel and karma is a lie.
  33. 4) IC Action = IC Consequences. If your character does something, undesired but otherwise reasonable consequences can and will apply.
  34. 4.1) Exception: your character cannot be killed, discharged, kidnapped, or otherwise permanently removed from the game without your or an admin's approval.
  35. 5) Retconning is your friend. You are free to declare lore-breaking, rules-breaking, or otherwise deeply ill-considered character actions retroactively non-canon.
  36. 5.2) Exception: if you appear to be using retconning repeatedly to dodge the B.4 consequences of your actions, your right to retcon may be revoked.
  37. 6) Just, be nice. Sometimes some subject matter in your RP will really upset someone for whatever reason. It's not worth hurting people to get to RP how you like.
  38.
  39. C) KEEP YOUR DICK IN YOUR PANTS
  40. I can't believe it needs to be stated, but your characters shouldn't be getting it on in a military ship in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention that we allow minors on.
  41. 1) Don't ERP.
  42. 2) Don't fucking ERP.
  43. 2.1) Take it to DMs.
  44. 3) This includes fetishistic behavior.
  45. 3.1) No, you won't be able to pretend it's not fetishistic.
  46. 4) IC and OOC discussion of sex and sexuality is permitted, up to a certain point.
  47. 4.1) This point is when I start having vivid images of a neckbeard mumbling "that's hot" under his sweaty breath.
  48. 5) If you use the word "lewd" at any point, it's too horny.
  49.
  50. D) FOLLOW THE LORE
  51. This includes the lore on the Polaris wiki and specific S&V lore that develops through events.
  52. 1) By playing here, your character is an Almachi who decided or was pressed into fighting the Association. Roleplay accordingly.
  53. 2) Due to the extremely high tensions between the Association and SolGov, S&V characters should not be reused Polaris characters.
  54. 2.1) They should not be advantaged by having a close advantage with a Polaris character.
  55. 2.2) Exception: If you really want to, you can introduce a Polaris character to S&V so long as you stop playing them on Polaris.
  56. 2.3) Exception: Similarly, an S&V character can move to Polaris as part of being permanently retired.
  57. 2.3.1) You can't bring them back from Polaris after you do this.
  58. 3) Please read the pinned posts in #introduction. These should give you a quick guide to what life on the S&V is like and information your character should know.
  59. 4) IC channels are IC.
  60. 4.1) If you MUST post something OOC, enclose it in double parenthesis and keep it short and to the point.
  61. 5) If you violate lore, don't sweat it, nobody can remember every little detail. Just retcon it and move along.
  62. 5.1) Don't continue violating lore in the same way.
  63. 6) All species, including humans, should be created in light of their racial lore.
  64.
  65. E) STAFF RULES
  66. This is a benevolent dictatorship.
  67. 1) Officers are not staff members but are allowed fairly broad discretion with enforcing IC consequences for character action.
  68. 1.1) Complaints about Officer players should be made to the Staff team. Officers are held to a high standard and powertripping is NOT permitted.
  69. 2) Event team members are not staff members but may be privvy to certain staff-side discussions. Regardless, they are not moderators, they are event-runners.
  70. 2.1) You are advised to listen to them anyway, but they don't have the power to ban you.
  71. 3) Staff members are staff members. Their interpretation of the rules is law.
  72. 3.1) If you have complaints about a staff member, please approach another staff member in the event that I even get more than one.
  73. 3.2) If you have complaints about the entire staff team, feel free to take your ball and go play somewhere else.
