background: she was born in san francisco, into a middle class family; she was the only child, and she probably would have had another sibling if her father didn't die early; she and her father had gotten into a fatal car accident while they were on the way home from her school when she was only 8 yrs old; her father lost his life upon getting to the hospital, meanwhile she survived with broken ribs, bruises and several cuts -- one of which left a scar above her right eyebrow; after that, she and her mother moved back to masan, south korea to stay over at her grandparents' old house and slowly start over again; her mother found several jobs, and worked nonstop to support her; in her last year of middle school, her mother was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and that's when she took over; she began working part-time to save money for her mother's treatment, all while going to school (she needed to get her diploma bc it was her parents' greatest wish); when she graduated high school, she got into university through a scholarship, but she still works to get money for her mother's treatment; by this time, her mother's lung cancer had progressed into stage 4, and she was starting to have a little hard time trying to remain strong

why you made a deal with your devil: she wanted to save her mother who was dying from lung cancer; she had lost her father, and didn't want to lose her mother too -- she just wont be able to handle the grief

how you made it: she had just gotten out of the doctor's office and had only found out that her mother may only have a few years left to live; she went to the hospital's rooftop garden to take a breather (and possibly cry without anyone seeing); there was no one there when she came, but somehow, a little boy comes up to her and asks her a strange question; it was weird how he knew about her mother's condition, but in her disoriented state, she forgets about the weirdness of it all; when the boy asks her if she's willing to sacrifice herself in order to save her mother, she agrees almost immediately; she didn't realize she had just made a deal with the devil (who disguised himself)
