- PEOPLE:
- Regardless of whether or not your character has ever met these people, they likely have heard about them, at least in passing; this goes double for Johan and Selani themselves. If you want your character to personally know any of these NPCs, just tell me(or Tirk for the later half), and I'll forward some more detailed info on them and we can get everything worked out.
- Johan: A Hero of Chaos, and one of the "rulers" of the city, alongside Selani. He runs a sort of bed-and-breakfast style, come-as-you-please, no-charge inn, but is usually on the second floor, which is comprised solely of his office, rather than admitting guests. From what you've picked up, the man is erratic and prone to forgetfulness, but nearly always willing to help those he finds interesting or unpredictable. However, he can't stand being bossed around, so it would be wise to be wary of trying to tell him what to do. Rumour has it that he or one of his attendents may secretly be a thief; many have reported a missing item or two after visiting his tavern. Johan himself rarely answers calls to protect the city, instead leaving that up to Selani. But if a monster or other threat happens to catch his eye, it's a different story; Johan will rush out immediately, and be at the scene before anyone has even sent out a call for aid.
- Physical Description: A perpetually bored-looking young man with dark hair and light eyes. Seems to be in his early to mid-twenties. Dresses very plainly, and never makes a show about his appearance.
- Selani: An outgoing woman, Selani is typically away from her large marble castle, situated on the west end of the city. She does make sure to be there for all appointments, of course. Selani is a strict law-maker and abider, and will not tolerate any bending or breaking of the rules she lays down. Her punishments are usually on the less-than-severe side, though, so don't be too worried. Somewhat judgmental, Selani has a tendency to ignore those she deems unstable or unworthy. Supposedly, however, if you listen to what she tells you, she's a very kind woman. Her entourage, on the other hand, has a reputation for being snobbish and stuck-up at all times. Selani deals with most mundane threats to the city she lives in, such as rogue bands of goblin raiders, Dire Crocodiles, and the occasional stray devil. Oftentimes, she takes them out before they can even get within a few hundred feet of the city walls.
- Physical Description: A kind-seeming, fair-haired girl typically clad in a green and gold robe, Selani usually has a smile on her face. She emits an aura of endless business, as if she is constantly on her way to some important meeting.
- Forz: A local boy who aspires to be a Hero, he's known as a smart, yet sociable kid. He's often seen with Doyle, sometimes helping the boy with his projects. Those that know Forz well know that he's actually not nearly as cool, calm, or collected as he seems at a glance. He prefers to solve everything with force, and rushes headlong at any problem. He does keep his companions in mind, though, and tries to draw attention from irritable adults and bullies, so that his friends won't see as much trouble from them.
- Doyle: The kid mommy told you to stay away from. Doyle's regarded by grown-ups as a "problem child" and a nutter. He doesn't do much to abate this ire, either - the boy is always playing with explosives and dangerous chemicals, most of which he made himself, as other, more sane children would Play-Doh or Lincoln Logs. Kids on the street don't speak well of him, either; he's lost a lot of friends through his "experiments," most of which ended with someone's eyebrows or skin changing colour for a time, or coughing up smoke. He's even caused an abandoned building to burn down. However, this all goes unnoticed by and large, as Doyle is a full-fledged Vassal despite his young age, and is "sponsored" in a way by Johan. Selani, on the other hand, wishes to catch the boy and teach him a lesson, but can never seem to track him down... People that know Doyle well, such as Forz, are aware that the boy is actually a veritable genius under his near-insane outer shell. He knows the answer to near any question asked of him. He also never stops asking people to participate in his experiments, and often ignores and forgets those who don't share his interests.
- Aaron: This Hero of Chaos has been mentioned in passing often as of late. There were some nasty rumours going around a while back; something about him being a dangerous nutter. Surprisingly, Johan stifled this gossip. Because of this, and their similar elements, many think the two may know each other well.
- Physical Description: You don't know much about Aaron, but one thing sticks out - the man is a Fetchling, and is entirely colorless, even moreso than most of his kin.
- Glade: A well-known Hero of Water, Glade is one of the most active Heroes in the world, usually one of the first on any scene of attack, and the last to leave it. When he isn't getting his mitts into everything, he sticks around Halcyon City, helping wannabe Vassals achieve their goals.
- Joan: A Hero of Fire, and Glade's partner, who does most of the close-up fighting, as well as the paperwork. She's very good at leading people, both in battle and in settlements, and for this reason, she is seen by most as the de-facto mayor of Halcyon.
- Christian: This Hero of Death is often seen hanging around Glade and Joan. He's definitely the youngest-looking of the three, and while he isn't known to be weak, he is very shy, and tends to hide from others.
- Cierra: An eccentric Hero of Life who lives in Denize, this half-dragon woman traveled with Johan and Selani as Vassals once upon a time, and was well-known for her inability to stay put for long. However, she seems to have found something she likes in Denize... She's a very competent healer, and is often sought out by those with hard-to-cure ailments or wounds. When she traveled around, finding her was so difficult that it was akin to a quest in and of itself.
- Lars: This spirited Hero of Light is always trying too hard, usually to his own detriment. Despite this, he's never been known to fail at anything he set out to accomplish, partially because he simply won't accept failure, and keeps trying till he gets it right. In light of all this, Lars is regarded as an extraordinarily powerful Hero. There are rumours going about that he often visits some shady individuals, though...
- Huey: An up-and-coming Vassal of Metal, he's only well-known because of his accomplished metallurgy skills. Even Heroes hold his weapons and armor in high regard, and some newer ones even use items Huey has made.
- Damian: A Hero of Metal, Damian is a gargantuan, imposing suit of shining metal armor worthy of his title. A well known swordsman and aficionado of metallic goods even before becoming a hero, his skin was replaced by the ultimate metal of his own creation after it was corroded away during a confrontation with Kai. Very much the strong, silent type.
- Courge: A Hero of Death, she finds as much beauty in oblivion as she does life. (Nonetheless, she insists "death" and "loss" are two entirely different concepts.) Her exact inclinations are unclear, but she's commonly referred to as a Lich by the general populace. It's said she harbors great power that she's more than willing to give away to her followers so long as they can pass her trials. Problem is, her trials tend to yield a high mortality rate, the victims of such currently reach into the triple digits.
- Feria: A Hero of Darkness, she's a sultry-looking woman who specializes in getting others to indulge in their temptations. She appears to have some prior history with Courge, and the two tend to constantly be at odds with each other, leading to some rather violent clashes.
- Melanie: A Hero of Balance. Nobody's sure where she came from, so most people assume she's just always been here. She enforces balance into the lives of other heroes, which more often than not means throwing a monkey wrench into whatever plots they cook up. Overwhelmingly neutral, she's not very well-liked among the heroes but not really hated either. Either way, she's something of a rascal.
- Physical Appearance: Melanie can shapeshift into any form that pleases her, but her default appearance is that of a skinless humanoid decorated in porcelain plating and a serpentine lower body.
- HARGMAL: A Hero of Water. One of the eldest known heroes, HARGMAL(yes, the all caps are required) is a giant fish who defends the nearby seas, lakes, and just about any body of water he can fit in.
- Fallen Heroes: These people were once Heroes, but later turned sour. The few listed here aren't all of them - they're just the more famous or recent ones, that haven't been forgotten or hidden from public memory.
- Bridget- A Hero of Ice from many years past, she single-handedly destroyed every member of a ruthless tribe of cannibalistic warriors. However, her violent and power-hungry personality caused her to be sealed away into a lair deep underground. Bridget's lair is a popular spot for people who want to dispose of items (or people) so that they may never be seen again.
- Physical appearance: It's said that the darkness in her heart caused Bridget to morph into a hideous creature comprised of multiple lashing appendages. Of course, the exact details vary from artist to artist.
- Kai: A Hero of Nature, and also easily among the most dangerous. From the moment she became a hero, she was less of a person and more of a force of nature. She casually spreads a miasma of deadly viruses and pollen corrosive enough to dissolve metal, marked by a garden of beautiful flowers in her wake. She's usually active in places surrounded by flora, but her rare stops by unnatural settlements more than often results in disaster.
- Physical appearance: Once resembling a human, Kai turned into a surreal fusion of flora and fauna upon becoming one with nature. Very few people have gotten a good look at her in her current state and lived to tell the tale.
- CITIES:
- Halcyon City: A large city home to quite a few Heroes and Vassals, Halcyon is named after its ancient founder, Sir B. Halcyon, said to be one of the world's first Heroes. While not the biggest city in the worst, it's probably the most famous and visited. Most of the large buildings are styled after different types of castles and other sorts of royal abodes, such as Egyptian and Persian palaces, Japanese pagoda, Mayan temples, and so on. Notable places of interest include Huey's main blacksmithing residence and the Jitih Inn, which was purportedly built on the very spot the gods were fully defeated centuries ago. About fifty years ago, it was renamed from "Jiti Inn" for unknown reasons.
- Denize: A quaint village a couple dozen miles from Halcyon City, Denize is most known for being home to Cierra and another, lesser-known Hero of Metal, Roger. Not many Heroes rest here, as there is no Inn; those that do typically end up staying just outside of town, or with Roger and Cierra. However, the small but well-stocked marketplace is quite an attraction to merchants and shoppers. A few people have reported seeing some very rare items for sale.
- More to come on, uh, everything, probably, later.
