  29. [18:27] <DM> GREETINGS, MORTALS and welcome to the first session of IRC&D2013.
  30.
  31. [18:31] <DM> After a long and bitter war, the human province of Whiteglen and the dwarven city of Tobulgast have finally signed a peace treaty.
  32.
  33. [18:32] <DM> In celebration, the Duke of Whiteglen is hosting a great feast for the visiting dwarven dignitaries, and has extended an open invitation to the residents of his realm.
  34.
  35. [18:32] <DM> As relatively prominent adventurers, word of it reached all of you, and you came to the capital of Whiteglen to take part in the festivities.
  36.
  37. [18:33] <DM> The duke intends to put on a grand tournament in honour of the visiting dwarf king, promising considerable riches to the victor.
  38.
  39. [18:35] <DM> Merchants of all kinds have descended upon the city, hoping to take advantage of the influx of visitors to hawk their wares to customers they would normally never see.
  40.
  41. [18:36] <DM> Whatever your reasons, you have arrived in town with one such merchant caravan, and find yourselves left standing at the city gates as the merchants run to the markets.
  42.
  43. [18:38] <Leah_Howland> Never been one for the bigger cities
  44.
  45. [18:38] <Leah_Howland> So many people about
  46.
  47. [18:39] <Jett> If you'll excuse me, friends, I must make my way to the market myself.
  48.
  49. [18:39] * Jett heads off into the crowds and disappears
  50.
  51. [18:39] <DM> Sigh. Jett, meet me in #split1 and do you really need your first action to be splitting the party.
  52.
  53. [18:42] * Jett , from what everyone else can see, is a relatively average sized human in traveling clothes, with long dark hair and grey eyes.
  54.
  55. [18:42] <DM> Jett heads off to buy a single item I am already aware of, without any #splits involved.'
  56.
  57. [18:42] * Kraaxek hops off his faithful steed/hound and quickly rummages through his travel sack for a piece of meat, which he feeds to the near snow-white huskie.
  58.
  59. [18:43] * Leah_Howland is a realatively reserved looking human mage. She has blond hair, tired-looking hazel eyes, and is wearing scholar's clothes
  60.
  61. [18:43] * Kraaxek is a white-hided winged kobold; a most unusual sight. He's dressed in fine clothes and a fine hat, wearing various pieces of jewelry and wings. As with all kobolds, he doesn't even make it to a human's waist in height, but his wings make his size somewhat deceptive.
  62.
  63. [18:46] * Kraaxek looks completely out of place, but acts like he's been here for years. He continues tending to his hound while glancing at the passers by. He seems to be in no real rush.
  64.
  65. [18:47] * You are now known as Pendleton
  66.
  67. [18:47] <Pendleton> Help! Thief!
  68.
  69. [18:47] * You are now known as DM
  70.
  71. [18:48] <DM> A frantic man storms towards you, and then falls onto his knees, panting.
  72.
  73. [18:48] * You are now known as Pendleton
  74.
  75. [18:48] <Pendleton> You there! You look like adventurers... I'm afraid someone has stolen my ledger!
  76.
  77. [18:48] <Pendleton> Please, I'll give you thirty gold apiece, just get that man!
  78.
  79. [18:48] * Kraaxek quickly bounds over to help.
  80.
  81. [18:49] * Pendleton points at a man in a blue coat weaving through the crowd
  82.
  83. [18:49] * You are now known as DM
  84.
  85. [18:49] <Kraaxek> "While I'm no adventurer, help ish shtill shomething I'm familiar with, good shir!"
  86.
  87. [18:49] <DM> Kraaxek, make a Dexterity or Strength check to get through the crowd.

  93. [18:51] <dice_god> DM, Dexterity: 10 [1d20=7]
  94.
  95. [18:51] <Leah_Howland> We'd be happy to help you, sir
  96.
  97. [18:52] <DM> Kraaxek slowly catches up to the thief. He is now within ten feet.
  98.
  99. [18:52] * Leah_Howland follows quickly as possible behind Kraaxek to assist
  100.
  101. [18:52] <DM> Leah, roll Dexterity or Strength to get through the crowd.
  102.
  103. [18:52] <Jett> 1d20+9 spot the commotion
  104.
  105. [18:52] <dice_god> Jett, spot the commotion: 23 [1d20=14]
  106.
  107. [18:53] <DM> Jett notices that there is an awful lot of running and shouting going on in the street.
  108.
  109. [18:53] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+2 Dextarity check
  110.
  111. [18:53] <dice_god> Leah_Howland, Dextarity check: 13 [1d20=11]
  112.
  113. [18:53] * Kraaxek 's size in a crowd is horrid for being seen, but works wonders for getting from A to B; he makes good time in catching up to the perpetrator!
  114.
  115. [18:53] <DM> Leah has trouble getting through the crowd.
  116.

  127. [18:54] <DM> Kraaxek, roll Strength or Dexterity to catch up with the perp.
  128.
  129. [18:55] <Kraaxek> 1d20+1 Dex check
  130.
  131. [18:55] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Dex check: 5 [1d20=4]
  132.
  133. [18:55] <DM> 1d20+3 thiefery
  134.
  135. [18:55] <dice_god> DM, thiefery: 12 [1d20=9]

  141. [18:57] <dice_god> Jett, Dex: 14 [1d20=10]
  142.
  143. [18:57] * Kraaxek attempts to call out to the thief in a jovial manner, but to little if any avail as he's caught in the jam.
  144.
  145. [18:57] <DM> Jett starts to dash through the crowd.
  146.
  147. [18:57] <Kraaxek> "Shir! I shay, good shir! Mmmpth, could I, exshushe me, could I have a word?"
  148.
  149. [18:58] <DM> The thief is staring intently at the bundle he has grasped in his arms, and does not seem to even notice what Kraaxek is saying as continues to run.
  150.
  151. [18:58] <Kraaxek> "Auch, get away; folksh, I'm very bushy!"
  152.
  153. [18:58] <Jett> "I'll handle this"
  154.
  155. [18:58] <DM> Kraaxek roll Intimidate or Diplomacy to try and get the crowd to disperse.
  156.
  157. [18:58] * Jett goes past Kraaxek
  158.
  159. [18:59] <DM> Jett promptly trips, because he should have known that something like this would be on my side of the screen.
  160.
  161. [18:59] <Kraaxek> 1d20+20 Diplomacy check
  162.
  163. [18:59] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Diplomacy check: 34 [1d20=14]

  168.
  169. [19:00] * Kraaxek tips his hat as he continues to give chase.
  170.
  171. [19:00] <Kraaxek> "Thank you again; come by later for an ode!"
  172.
  173. [19:02] <DM> With the crowd gone, the thief makes one more desperate sprint for a nearby alley.
  174.
  175. [19:02] * Jett gives chase with full speed
  176.
  177. [19:04] * Leah_Howland tries to follow behind everyone
  178.
  179. [19:04] * Kraaxek gauges the distance to his quarry... Yup, that should do it. While continuing to jog ahead, he focuses his hands and whispers a quick chant.
  180.
  181. [19:04] <DM> With the crowd gone, Jett is going just about as fast as the thief.
  182.
  183. [19:04] <Kraaxek> "Shoesh, may you give me flight upon the shand..."
  184.
  185. [19:05] * Kraaxek suddenly shoots off into the alley at twice his previous speed, as if by magic!
  186.
  187. [19:07] <DM> Kraaxek catches up with the thief effortlessly.
  188.
  189. [19:10] <Kraaxek> "I shay shir, could I have a word? It won't be but a moment!"
  190.
  191. [19:10] * Kraaxek dashes in front of the man; he'd have to run over him to keep going ahead.
  192.
  193. [19:11] <DM> The thief, clearly somewhat panicked, jumps back and stares at Kraaxek.
  194.
  195. [19:11] * Kraaxek straightens his hat and tie; running has made him quite the mess!
  196.
  197. [19:12] <Kraaxek> "It'sh simply that, your vesht, my good shir, your vesht is shomething truly wonderful!"

  385. [19:36] <DM> Kraaxek gets high enough to catch a glimpse of the goods.
  386.
  387. [19:36] <Jett> What kind of book is this? Should we look inside?
  388.
  389. [19:36] * Leah_Howland snaps out of her trance and wanders over to be of some use
  390.
  391. [19:37] * Leah_Howland casts detect magic on the book
  392.
  393. [19:38] <Kraaxek> 1d20+9 Bardic Knowledge check (What's that book?)
  394.
  395. [19:38] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Bardic Knowledge check (What's that book?): 26 [1d20=17]
  396.
  397. [19:38] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+10 knowledge history
  398.
  399. [19:38] <dice_god> Leah_Howland, knowledge history: 21 [1d20=11]
  400.
  401. [19:38] <DM> You both recognise the coat of arms as that of the duke's family.
  402.
  403. [19:39] <Leah_Howland> Oh goodness, it's the duke's. I'd rather not get caught with this in bad circumstances... better find somebody who can return it.
  404.
  405. [19:39] <DM> You detect the presence of a faint magical aura on the book.
  406.
  407. [19:40] <Kraaxek> "Why find shomeone, ma'am, when we can return it ourshelvesh?"
  408.
  409. [19:40] <Kraaxek> "The lessh handsh that hold it, the better."
  410.
  411. [19:40] <Jett> I agree, I'm sure the duke will reward us for bringing this back to him.
  412.
  413. [19:40] <Leah_Howland> Because Nobility, in my experience, tend to fly off the handle for nothing at all, and this is actually something.
  414.
  415. [19:40] <Kraaxek> "And, if I might shay, I know my way around palashesh~"
  416.
  417. [19:41] <DM> Do you continue the Detect Magic spell to find out what the aura is?
  418.
  419. [19:41] <Leah_Howland> Then you keep it...
  420.
  421. [19:41] * Kraaxek bows and doffs his hat.
  422.
  423. [19:41] * Leah_Howland continues the detect magic on the book
  424.
  425. [19:41] * Jett puts the book in her handy haversack
  426.
  427. [19:41] <Kraaxek> "Kraaxek Dr'Dvaapgin, at your shervish. You might have heard of me."
  428.
  429. [19:42] <Jett> I have heard of a kooky kobald bard in this area, yes
  430.
  431. [19:42] <DM> There is only one aura present on the book.
  432.
  433. [19:42] <Leah_Howland> Not really. Not a people's person myself...
  434.
  435. [19:43] <Kraaxek> "Kooky? Clearly I haven't been here long enough, in that cashe."
  436.
  437. [19:43] <Jett> My name is Jett, I don't deal in last names.
  438.
  439. [19:43] <Leah_Howland> Leah Howland, pleasure...
  440.
  441. [19:44] <Kraaxek> "All mine, missh; shertainly."
  442.
  443. [19:44] <Jett> Well, shall we head for the palace?
  444.
  445. [19:44] <Leah_Howland> Doubtful...
  446.
  447. [19:45] <Kraaxek> "Here here; Sir Jett. If you'll allow me to regain my possheshions from the city gate; a moment pleashe."
  448.
  449. [19:45] <Jett> I can accompany you. It should be no trouble, and I want out of this damnable alley
  450.
  451. [19:45] * Leah_Howland tags along with the weird people, with nothing else to do in town before the celebration
  452.
  453. [19:45] <Kraaxek> "Ash you wish."
  454.
  455. [19:46] <DM> As you exit the alley and approach the gate, you find the man who ran into you before.
  456.
  457. [19:46] * You are now known as Pendleton
  458.
  459. [19:46] <Pendleton> Oh thank the gods! My ledger!
  460.
  461. [19:46] <Leah_Howland> Oh, do you work for the duke?
  462.
  463. [19:46] * Pendleton bows briefly and reaches for his coinpurse.
  464.
  465. [19:47] <Pendleton> Ah, you recognise the heraldry. Simon Pendleton, Lord Treasurer of Whiteglen. For what it's worth.
  466.
  467. [19:48] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+4 Sense motive on this weird person (everyone's weird here aren't they?)
  468.
  469. [19:48] <dice_god> Leah_Howland, Sense motive on this weird person (everyone's weird here aren't they?): 16 [1d20=12]
  470.
  471. [19:48] * You are now known as DM
  472.
  473. [19:48] <DM> He seems truthful.
  474.
  475. [19:49] <Jett> It is wonderful to meet you.
  476.
  477. [19:49] * You are now known as Pendleton
  478.
  479. [19:49] <Kraaxek> 1d20+7 Knowledge(Local) (What do I know about the local Lord Treasurer?)
  480.
  481. [19:49] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Knowledge(Local) (What do I know about the local Lord Treasurer?): 9 [1d20=2]
  482.
  483. [19:49] <Leah_Howland> How did you let this... ledger as you call it?... get away from you?
  484.
  485. [19:49] <Pendleton> Oh, I assure you, I'm very lucky to have met the three of you!
  486.
  487. [19:49] * You are now known as DM
  488.
  489. [19:50] <DM> You do not know anything in particular about the duke's treasurer.
  490.
  491. [19:50] * You are now known as Pendleton
  492.
  493. [19:50] <Pendleton> I'm afraid I was, well, bludgeoned. Sapped. Hit about the head, so to speak.
  494.
  495. [19:50] <Pendleton> He wasn't very strong, but it was enough for me to drop the ledger...
  496.
  497. [19:50] <Kraaxek> "Happensh to the besht of ush, Lord-shir."
  498.
  499. [19:51] <Pendleton> Oh, I'm just so glad you got it back! I'd hate to have lost all that work, all those records, just because some thug with a club saw the gold!
  500.
  501. [19:51] <Leah_Howland> *Quietly* That 'ledger' word again...
  502.
  503. [19:51] <Jett> Ouch... Well, this is the man who did it
  504.
  505. [19:51] * Jett roughly drags the man around in front of her
  506.
  507. [19:51] <Pendleton> I say... you did quite a number on him. Very... impressive?
  508.
  509. [19:51] * Jett then searches his pockets
  510.
  511. [19:51] * Pendleton is clearly a bit nervous
  512.
  513. [19:51] <Pendleton> Anyhow! I believe I promised you a reward...
  514.
  515. [19:52] <Leah_Howland> Please, tell me of the nature of this... ledger...
  516.
  517. [19:52] * Pendleton pulls nine platinum coins from his coinpurse and hands three of them to each of you.
  518.
  519. [19:52] <Jett> Thank you kindly.
  520.
  521. [19:52] <Pendleton> Oh, you know. It's the month's expenses for the duke's household. Quite worthless, other than the decorations, but invaluable to me and my lord.
  522.
  523. [19:53] <Leah_Howland> Why, then, is it so important to steal?
  524.
  525. [19:53] <Kraaxek> "The looksh, dear lady, the looksh."
  526.
  527. [19:53] <Pendleton> I can't say; perhaps he saw the ornamentation and thought to sell the gems?
  528.
  529. [19:54] <Leah_Howland> Inside the packaging, that wasn't opened?
  530.
  531. [19:54] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+4 Sense motive again
  532.
  533. [19:54] <dice_god> Leah_Howland, Sense motive again: 15 [1d20=11]
  534.
  535. [19:54] * Kraaxek spins the coins around in his hand. Shiny~...
  536.
  537. [19:54] <Pendleton> I was just carrying it in my arm... I don't know what you mean by packaging...
  538.
  539. [19:54] <Pendleton> Maybe the thief thought to cover it, lest one of the guards recognise the crest?
  540.
  541. [19:55] * You are now known as DM
  542.
  543. [19:55] <DM> Leah, he still appears to be truthful, albeit a little uncomfortable.
  544.
  545. [19:55] <Leah_Howland> Why would he waste the time, in such a rush?
  546.
  547. [19:55] * You are now known as Pendleton
  548.
  549. [19:56] * Leah_Howland feels as though things just don't add up here
  550.
  551. [19:56] <Pendleton> I'm afraid I don't know, madam. I am not well-versed in the thoughts of thieves.
  552.
  553. [19:56] <Pendleton> But please, do come with me; my lord will be interested to hear of this! I'm afraid I don
  554.
  555. [19:56] <Pendleton> 't usually have anything exciting to tell him.
  556.
  557. [19:57] * Leah_Howland pulls the other two comrades over to her and speaks to them quietly
  558.
  559. [19:57] * You are now known as DM
  560.
  561. [19:57] <Leah_Howland> *Quietlike* that book has some magical aura with it. It is much more than he is making it out to be...
  562.
  563. [19:58] * Kraaxek furrows his brow quizzically.
  564.
  565. [19:58] <DM> 1d20-2 Pendleton listens intently
  566.
  567. [19:58] <dice_god> DM, Pendleton listens intently: 2 [1d20=4]
  568.
  569. [19:58] <Jett> It may be some mundane spell to keep tabs, hell if I know...
  570.
  571. [19:58] <Leah_Howland> *Stillquietandsuch* Hold on to it if you can until we get to the castle
  572.
  573. [19:59] <Kraaxek> "Nobility often makesh ushe of shimple shpellsh for convenienshe. They can afford it."
  574.
  575. [19:59] <Leah_Howland> *with all degrees of quietness* I distrust those of high standing
  576.
  577. [20:00] <Jett> This is true. Let's just accept his offer and grab a free meal. I'm starving already.
  578.
  579. [20:00] <Leah_Howland> *Loudly to the one treasurer person guy* We would love to acompany you!
  580.
  581. [20:00] * You are now known as Pendleton
  582.
  583. [20:00] * Kraaxek smirks. Heh... "starving". What an antiquated concept...
  584.
  585. [20:01] <Pendleton> Well then. We shall be off!
  586.
  587. [20:01] * You are now known as DM
  588.
  589. [20:01] * Jett turns back to pendleton
  590.
  591. [20:01] <Jett> Agreed!
  592.
  593. [20:01] <Kraaxek> "And again!"
  594.
  595. [20:01] <Kraaxek> "Your hoshpitality will not fall upon blind eyesh, Sir-Lord Pendleton."
  596.
  597. [20:02] <Jett> Absolutely. We will be glad to take you up on your invitation.
  598.
  599. [20:02] <DM> Pendleton leads you through the city's streets at a slow but steady pace, chatting idly about his hopes for opening trade negotiations with the dwarves.
  600.
  601. [20:02] <DM> After a while, you reach a horse-drawn coach which appears to be waiting for him; he smiles to the driver and gestures for you to get on board.
  602.
  603. [20:02] <DM> A short while later, you approach the duke's palace.
  604.
  605. [20:04] <Leah_Howland> So fancy...
  606.
  607. [20:04] <DM> The road is framed by two gardens of exotic flowers, one being tended by a loudly humming gardener. The palace itself is four or five stories high and made of intricately-engraved marble.
  608.
  609. [20:04] <Jett> How ornate...
  610.
  611. [20:05] * Kraaxek tries to act like he's used to this.
  612.
  613. [20:05] <DM> The coach pulls up in the main courtyard, flanked by two wings of the palace. In the centre is a statue of a great silver dragon roaring at the sky.
  614.
  615. [20:06] <Kraaxek> "Quite. If you look at thoshe columnsh there, you can shee the shtyle is quite modern for thish area."
  616.
  617. [20:06] <DM> Men and women in lavish garb flit about the entrance, with the occasional dwarf seen among them.
  618.
  619. [20:07] <Leah_Howland> What other era is there?
  620.
  621. [20:07] * Jett is now dressed in a fancy dress, though nobody knows when she changed.
  622.
  623. [20:08] <DM> Pendleton exits the coach and motions for you to follow.
  624.
  625. [20:08] * You are now known as Pendleton
  626.
  627. [20:08] <Kraaxek> "Sheveral, obvioushly. Hishtory ishn't exactly short, you know!"
  628.
  629. [20:08] * Leah_Howland follows close behind this one guy
  630.
  631. [20:08] <Pendleton> By the by, may I have my ledger back now? I'm loathe to let it out of my sight much longer, not after all this.
  632.
  633. [20:09] <Leah_Howland> Soon Soon... Pendleton my dear
  634.
  635. [20:09] * Kraaxek spends a few spare seconds to admire the dragon statue over there. So beautiful...
  636.
  637. [20:09] * Pendleton blushes
  638.
  639. [20:09] <Pendleton> I-I say, madam!
  640.
  641. [20:09] * Jett pretends not to hear Pendleton as she rushes inside, as fast as her newly seen high heels will take her.
  642.
  643. [20:10] <Pendleton> Roll Dexterity for rushing in high heels.
  644.
  645. [20:10] * You are now known as DM
  646.
  647. [20:10] <Jett> 1d20+4 high heel trip?
  648.
  649. [20:10] <dice_god> Jett, high heel trip?: 20 [1d20=16]
  650.
  651. [20:10] <DM> You successfully enter the great hall without incident.
  652.
  653. [20:11] * Jett looks around the great hall, admiring the beauty.
  654.
  655. [20:11] * Kraaxek pulls out a pocket mirror and does his best to pat out the wrinkles in his clothes. He's always dressed his best, but it's hard to keep it that way.
  656.
  657. [20:12] <DM> The interior of the building is even more elaborate than the outside; grand tapestries hang around the walls, and the domed ceiling is engraved with an elaborate diorama in marble, ebony, and gold leaf.
  658.
  659. [20:13] <Leah_Howland> No expense spared, apparently
  660.
  661. [20:13] * Kraaxek is now beginning to look a little nervous. So official... Can't screw up, gotta make a good first impression...
  662.
  663. [20:15] <DM> Pendleton gestures to a very large man in a satin doublet sitting at a table with some very old-looking dwarves. He bows as soon as the man notices him.
  664.
  665. [20:15] * You are now known as Pendleton
  666.
  667. [20:15] <Pendleton> Milord, may I present...
  668.
  669. [20:15] * Pendleton blanches
  670.
  671. [20:15] <Pendleton> I'm afraid I never asked your names!
  672.
  673. [20:15] * Jett strides over gracefully, with little shame to bow to the duke.
  674.
  675. [20:16] <Jett> You may call me Jett, sire.
  676.
  677. [20:16] * Leah_Howland shyly steps out behind Jett
  678.
  679. [20:16] * Jett bows graciously
  680.
  681. [20:16] <Pendleton> Nonetheless, these fine ladies and, well, kobold helped me out of a rather horrid little quagmire today.
  682.
  683. [20:16] * You are now known as DukeGranfell
  684.
  685. [20:16] <Leah_Howland> *Shyly* L-Leah Howland, s-sire.
  686.
  687. [20:16] * Kraaxek flicks his eyes up at Pendleton with that somewhat-botched introduction he received.
  688.
  689. [20:17] * DukeGranfell stands up and beams
  690.
  691. [20:17] * Kraaxek tries not to eye those dwarves too hard. Dwarves, grrr...
  692.
  693. [20:17] <DukeGranfell> Come, take a seat! You two gentlemen wouldn't mind a few more guests, would you?
  694.
  695. [20:17] * DukeGranfell gives one of the dwarves a friendly slap on the back
  696.
  697. [20:18] <Leah_Howland> Oh no, s-sire! We couldn't t-t-trouble you to make a place f-for us!
  698.
  699. [20:18] <DukeGranfell> Well now, if everyone said that, it'd make the feasts dreadfully dull, wouldn't it!
  700.
  701. [20:19] * Jett comes over to sit next to one of the dwarves, before they get a chance to answer
  702.
  703. [20:19] * Kraaxek does a full one-legged kneel on the ground as he sweeps off his hat with a flourish.
  704.
  705. [20:19] <Jett> Thank you kindly for your invitation!
  706.
  707. [20:20] * Leah_Howland slowly inches towards the closest non-end seat to her, and slides in it
  708.
  709. [20:20] <Kraaxek> "My Duke, Kraaxek Dr'Dvaapgin, a mosht humble bard, at you shervishe. Your hoshpitality ish beyond all exshpectashion."
  710.
  711. [20:20] <Leah_Howland> Th-thank you, sire
  712.
  713. [20:21] <DukeGranfell> If it's not too improper, sir, might I ask about the wings? I've seen kobolds in my time, well mostly engravings of them, and to my understanding you're flightless.
  714.
  715. [20:21] * Jett starts grabbing at the food in front of her and begins to eat, not very ladylike.
  716.
  717. [20:22] * You are now known as LordAthel
  718.
  719. [20:22] <Kraaxek> "Your information ish mosht correct, milord. I wash blesshed at birth with the blood of the old dragonsh; you've likely sheen no white koboldsh in your time either. It is at timesh a heavy burden, but one I would bear every day without regret."
  720.
  721. [20:22] * LordAthel laughs
  722.
  723. [20:22] <LordAthel> I say, girl, you're quite the avid eater!
  724.
  725. [20:22] * LordAthel straightens his beard
  726.
  727. [20:23] <LordAthel> Athel Osalmat. Can you drink?
  728.
  729. [20:23] * LordAthel offers Jett a flagon
  730.
  731. [20:23] <Jett> Jett, and yes. Yes I can.
  732.
  733. [20:23] * Jett takes the flagon from Athel.
  734.
  735. [20:23] * Kraaxek continues to kneel, until asked to rise, as is the custom.
  736.
  737. [20:23] <LordAthel> Well then. Five gold to the better?
  738.
  739. [20:23] * You are now known as DukeGranfell
  740.
  741. [20:23] <Jett> Agreed.
  742.
  743. [20:23] <DukeGranfell> Stand, bard! How about a tale while we eat?
  744.
  745. [20:23] * You are now known as DM
  746.
  747. [20:24] <DM> Jett, roll your Constitution check.
  748.
  749. [20:24] <DM> (Apply any bonuses against poison you might have.)
  750.
  751. [20:24] * Kraaxek pops up to his feet almost instantly.
  752.
  753. [20:24] <Jett> 1d20+2 tasty
  754.
  755. [20:24] <dice_god> Jett, tasty: 14 [1d20=12]
  756.
  757. [20:24] <Kraaxek> "If it pleashesh the hosht, shertainly!"
  758.
  759. [20:25] * Leah_Howland gazes upon a golden brown roll on the table, considering it's origins
  760.
  761. [20:25] <DM> Kraaxek roll Perform.
  762.
  763. [20:25] <Kraaxek> 1d20+14 Perform(Oratory) check
  764.

  809. [20:31] <DM> Jett finally manages to drink the dwarf lord under the table, and he grumbles as he passes over five gold.
  810.
  811. [20:31] * Jett smirks in the direction of the dwarf
  812.
  813. [20:32] <Kraaxek> "I musht congratulate your realm on it's succsheshful peace at long lasht, Duke Granfell."
  814.
  815. [20:32] <Jett> Can't hold your mead?
  816.
  817. [20:32] <DM> One of the other dwarfs is choking back laughter.
  818.
  819. [20:32] * You are now known as LordAthel
  820.
  821. [20:32] <LordAthel> Eh, you won it faaaaaair'n square.
  822.
  823. [20:33] <Jett> Thank you. I'll treasure this moment.
  824.
  825. [20:33] * Leah_Howland finds this roll to be delightfully baked, most likely of the wheat variety, with a touch of butter on it's golden brown exterior. She then continues staring
  826.
  827. [20:33] <Kraaxek> "I've heard my fair share of commoner'sh shortiesh about the problemsh the war hash caushed with travel and shuppliesh."
  828.
  829. [20:33] * You are now known as DukeGranfell
  830.
  831. [20:34] <DukeGranfell> Indeed; such a great waste of life. All over a little stretch of land by a river... I think we're all quite glad it's over now.
  832.
  833. [20:35] * Leah_Howland stops, suddenly angered, and grabs the roll hastilly and takes a large bite out of it
  834.
  835. [20:37] <Kraaxek> "War, ash they have shaid, ish hell. And hell canot shtay far enough away from the land of the living."
  836.
  837. [20:39] <DukeGranfell> Well said, sir.
  838.
  839. [20:39] * Jett goes back to chowing down on the delicious food before her.
  840.
  841. [20:39] * DukeGranfell pokes Lord Athel
  842.
  843. [20:39] <DukeGranfell> Well, he'll be out for a while. Can't say I'd like to be in his shoes when everyone hears of this back in the mountains!
  844.
  845. [20:39] <Jett> Pelor knows I'll be telling everyone I meet about this night!
  846.
  847. [20:40] * Leah_Howland is finished with her roll, and, not wanting to be a plot catalyst, is now glaring at a different baked item of undisclosed nature
  848.
  849. [20:41] * You are now known as DM
  850.
  851. [20:42] * Kraaxek is later excused from the table to regale the other party-goers with tales gleaned from other regions. Never a dull moment with a bard nearby!
  852.
  853. [20:43] <DM> The celebration continues on long into the night. Kraaxek, roll Perform for how well you do with the rest of the courtiers.
  854.
  855. [20:43] <DM> Eventually, the duke starts to yawn and calls an end to the night's festivities before wandering off to his quarters. Pendleton thanks you again for recovering his ledger and wanders off to his office.
  856.
  857. [20:44] <Kraaxek> 1d20+14 Perform(Oratory) check

  863. [20:44] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Perform(Strings) check: 27 [1d20=19]
  864.
  865. [20:44] <DM> Kraaxek manages to impress most of the partygoers, particularly with his fiddle.
  866.
  867. [20:45] <DM> One of the duke's servants offers you room and board for the night, and offers Leah a plate of the rolls.
  868.
  869. [20:48] * Jett enters the room, sits down, and pulls out the ledger
  870.
  871. [20:49] * Jett then examines the ledger closely
  872.
  873. [20:49] <Leah_Howland> *Out of sight of other party goers, with Jett* Let me see that too
  874.
  875. [20:49] * Leah_Howland [Detect Magic]
  876.
  877. [20:50] * Leah_Howland tries to determine what the spell is on the ledger
  878.
  879. [20:50] <DM> You detect the same faint aura as before. With more time to examine it, you discover it is on the pages of the book. You may roll Spellcraft to determine what kind of magic it is.
  880.
  881. [20:50] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+12 Spellcraft on book
  882.
  883. [20:51] <dice_god> Leah_Howland, Spellcraft on book: 25 [1d20=13]
  884.
  885. [20:51] <DM> It is faint transmutation.
  886.
  887. [20:52] * Kraaxek relaxes in the royal library, reading late into the night. Books he cannot reach himself are easily accessible with the aid of his Unseen Servant.
  888.
  889. [20:52] <Leah_Howland> It's a transmutation, but I don't know what to do about it
  890.
  891. [20:53] * Kraaxek casts Unseen Servant, doubling it's duration with his Extend Spell rod.
  892.
  893. [20:53] <Jett> Hmm... what could that be for?
  894.
  895. [20:54] <Jett> I wonder...
  896.
  897. [20:59] * Leah_Howland reads the book
  898.
  899. [21:00] <DM> The book contains strings of numbers and letters without any apparent pattern.
  900.
  901. [21:00] <Leah_Howland> This just seems like gibberish
  902.
  903. [21:06] <Leah_Howland> I say we give it back to him and hope nothing major comes about it
  904.
  905. [21:06] <Leah_Howland> And if it does, hopefully we can stop it before anything gets out of hand
  906.
  907. [21:06] <Jett> Yes... that would be for the best.
  908.
  909. [21:19] <DM> You shuffle off to bed for the night and wake up the next morning. Servants are rapidly scurrying about the mansion; the revelry of the previous night is gone.
  910.
  911. [21:20] * Jett moves slowly out of bed. It is clear she is not as gorgeous as she seemed the night before.
  912.
  913. [21:22] * Leah_Howland wakes up and contemplates the ceiling, as is her custom
  914.
  915. [21:23] <DM> After you all wake up, you hear servants knocking on your respective doors.
  916.
  917. [21:23] * Kraaxek has been up for some time already; early to bed and early to rise, etc.!
  918.
  919. [21:23] * Jett heads to the door and opens it with a sour look on her face.
  920.
  921. [21:23] * Leah_Howland gets out of bed and ambles to the door
  922.
  923. [21:24] <DM> You are asked to dress yourselves and come to the great hall; apparently something terrible happened overnight.
  924.
  925. [21:24] * Kraaxek is shocked! He immediately checks his possessions to make sure nothing has gone missing.
  926.
  927. [21:25] <DM> Everything you had is still there.
  928.
  929. [21:25] * Jett closes the door, then almost immidiately opens it to reveal a cleaned up, more formal looking Jett, ready for whatever she has to hear.
  930.
  931. [21:25] * Leah_Howland is mildly surprized, but maintains her demeanor and gets ready to accompany the servant at her door
  932.
  933. [21:27] * Kraaxek spent plenty of time last night brushing up his clothes; he's looking much sharper today as he trails the servant.
  934.
  935. [21:27] <DM> You are escorted by the servants to the great hall, where a group of furious dwarves are arguing with Duke Granfell in the midst of a flurry of servants. The tables have all been overturned, and a pool of blood is clearly visible in the centre of the room.
  936.
  937. [21:28] <DM> A distraught Pendleton is standing off to the side, visibly quivering.
  938.
  939. [21:28] * Jett checks her belongings, making sure she didn't sleepwalk and "leave anything behind"
  940.
  941. [21:28] * Kraaxek halts his steps as soon as he sees the blood. Death... Death is not exactly his most familiar subject.
  942.
  943. [21:29] <Kraaxek> "Shervant... What happened here?"
  944.
  945. [21:29] * Leah_Howland stares blankly at the slightly familiar situation in front of her
  946.
  947. [21:29] * You are now known as Servant
  948.
  949. [21:29] <Servant> Er... Lord Athel, was, ah...
  950.
  951. [21:29] * Kraaxek 's tone is grave, and quiet, so as not to seem like yet another gawker.
  952.
  953. [21:29] <Servant> I, er... I'm sorry, I don't want to talk about it right now.
  954.
  955. [21:30] * Jett checks harder to make sure she still had all her weapons where they should be, and clean as she left them last night
  956.
  957. [21:30] * Zanian is now known as Valtteri
  958.
  959. [21:31] <Servant> Lord Pendleton, one of Lord Athel's aides, and one of milord's knights managed to chase off the assassin, but...
  960.
  961. [21:31] <Kraaxek> "Be at eashe, my man; shilencshe may be for the besht."
  962.
  963. [21:31] * Servant gestures slightly toward the blood
  964.
  965. [21:33] * You are now known as DM
  966.
  967. [21:33] * Kraaxek wants to ask questions of the assassin's appearance, but best not to seem too nosy. He's only a guest here, after all...
  968.
  969. [21:33] <DM> The Duke walks over to you, his face solemn.
  970.
  971. [21:34] * You are now known as DukeGranfell
  972.
  973. [21:34] * Jett pulls her head out of her haversack, feeling better, and faces the Duke.
  974.
  975. [21:35] <DukeGranfell> A dreadful affair, I'm afraid. Lord Athel was a good man.
  976.
  977. [21:35] <Jett> A pathetic drinker, but a good man. I will miss his rowdy soul.
  978.
  979. [21:35] <DukeGranfell> Sir Valtteri, would you come over here, please?
  980.
  981. [21:36] * Valtteri walks to the Duke
  982.
  983. [21:36] <Valtteri> What do you need M'Lord?
  984.
  985. [21:37] <DukeGranfell> We cannot let Lord Athel's death go unpunished, but I'm afraid I don't know where to start. These fellows helped Pendelton yesterday, and I think them trustworthy. I would like you to assist them in discovering the identity of this murderer, and parading his head from my palace to the Great Atrium at Tobulgast.
  986.
  987. [21:38] * You are now known as DM
  988.
  989. [21:38] <DM> Valttieri, roll Spot to see if you saw much of the assassin's appearance.
  990.
  991. [21:40] <Valtteri> 1d20+6 Spot
  992.
  993. [21:40] <dice_god> Valtteri, Spot: 9 [1d20=3]
  994.
  995. [21:43] <DM> You saw nothing.
  996.
  997. [21:44] <Kraaxek> "Milord, I cannot shay my shkillsh are shuperior, but I honor the opportunity to bring you your jushtishe."
  998.
  999. [21:45] * You are now known as DukeGranfell
  1000.
1001. [21:45] <DukeGranfell> I shall leave you to your deliberations.
  1002.
1003. [21:45] * DukeGranfell turns to walk away, then looks back.
  1004.
1005. [21:45] <Jett> I will be happy to help in whatever way I can.
  1006.
1007. [21:46] <DukeGranfell> Oh, and Pendleton wanted to see you about something... poor man.
  1008.
  1009. [21:46] <DukeGranfell> \nick DM
  1010.
1011. [21:46] * You are now known as DM
  1012.
1013. [21:46] <Valtteri> I will bring you the head of the fiend who did this M'Lord.
  1014.
1015. [21:46] * You are now known as DukeGranfell
  1016.
1017. [21:46] <DukeGranfell> I trust you shall, Valttieri. Make it a pike worthy of a grand parade.
  1018.
1019. [21:47] * DukeGranfell continues to walk towards the dwarves
  1020.
1021. [21:48] * Kraaxek turns to his three "companions" of sorts.
  1022.
1023. [21:48] <Kraaxek> "It sheemsh we have become 'involved'."
  1024.
  1025. [21:51] <Kraaxek> "Sir Valtteri? Kraaxek Dr'Dvaapgin. An honor."
  1026.
1027. [21:51] * Kraaxek holds out his hand to the knight for a greeting.
  1028.
1029. [21:51] <Jett> Jett, It is nice to meet you, sir knight.
  1030.
1031. [21:52] * Jett bows, still with a distant look in her eyes.
  1032.
  1033. [21:52] * Valtteri shakes Kraaxek's hand
  1034.
1035. [21:52] <Valtteri> I wish we could have meet under more fortunate circumstances
  1036.
1037. [21:52] * Leah_Howland holds her hand stiffly out in front of her
  1038.
1039. [21:53] <Leah_Howland> Leah Howland, a pleasure to meet you
  1040.
1041. [21:53] <Kraaxek> "To have met at all ish fortune, my friend."
  1042.
1043. [21:53] * You are now known as DM
  1044.
  1045. [21:53] * Valtteri shakes Leah's hand
  1046.
1047. [21:54] <Valtteri> It is fortunate to have capable people like yourselves here to aid me.
  1048.
1049. [21:54] * Kraaxek heads over to another nearby servant and asks him to point out the aid of Lord Athel who saw the assassin.
  1050.
1051. [21:54] * Jett goes to inspect the body
  1052.
1053. [21:54] <DM> The servant directs you to a young dwarf staring blankly at a mug of mead.
  1054.
1055. [21:55] <DM> The body has been moved, presumably to a morgue. The blood is pooled around the table where you and Lord Athel were drinking the night before, with some of it dripping off the chair he was sitting in.
  1056.
1057. [21:55] * Kraaxek inhales deeply. Dwarves... Why does it have to be dwarves?
  1058.
1059. [21:56] * Jett , resisting the urge to check her weapons again, tails Kraaxek to see what he's up to.
  1060.
1061. [21:57] * Valtteri approaches the grieving, drinking Dwarf
  1062.
1063. [21:58] * Kraaxek exhales softly, inwardly glad that Valtteri approached the dwarf first. He goes to find Pendleton instead.
  1064.
1065. [21:59] <Valtteri> You look like you've been through the wringer...
  1066.
1067. [21:59] * Jett continues to follow Kraaxek, happy to see that he is heading away from the only other person who could see the assassin last night.
  1068.
1069. [22:00] * You are now known as Urist
  1070.
  1071. [22:00] <Urist> Ah, Sir Valtteri...
  1072.
  1073. [22:00] <Urist> 1d20+1 Spot
  1074.
  1075. [22:00] <dice_god> Urist, Spot: 6 [1d20=5]
  1076.
  1077. [22:00] <Urist> I wish I could help, really, but, well... I didn't really see the killer.
  1078.
  1079. [22:00] <Urist> I mean, Lord Athel was...
  1080.
  1081. [22:00] * Urist quivers
  1082.
1083. [22:01] <Urist> It's hard to imagine him dead, you know?
  1084.
1085. [22:01] * Valtteri lays a hand on his shoulder
  1086.
  1087. [22:01] <Valtteri> I know, certain people just don't seem like...
  1088.
  1089. [22:03] * Valtteri sighs
  1090.
1091. [22:04] <Valtteri> When someone so lively, just isn't there anymore.
  1092.
1093. [22:04] <Urist> Indeed. May his murderer burn in the lowest of the Nine Hells.
  1094.
1095. [22:05] <Valtteri> Sorry, but he's going to be stuck with a pike first.
  1096.
  1097. [22:06] <Urist> That's the least he deserves.
  1098.
1099. [22:04] * You are now known as Pendleton
  1100.
  1101. [22:04] <Pendleton>
  1102.
  1103. [22:05] <Pendleton> Ah, Mr Dr'Dvaapgin. I assume this is... you know.
  1104.
  1105. [22:06] <Pendleton> 1d20-2 Spot
  1106.
  1107. [22:06] <dice_god> Pendleton, Spot: 12 [1d20=14]
  1108.
  1109. [22:06] <Kraaxek> "It ish, I'm afraid, Lord Pendleton."
  1110.
1111. [22:06] <Pendleton> Well then... I was the one with the torch, so I guess I got a better look at the, ah, the... assassin than the others.
  1112.
1113. [22:07] <Pendleton> I only saw a little; they were wearing a dark, hooded cloak. I'm afraid I didn't see their face, but when they were going out the window... I think I saw dark hair?
  1114.
1115. [22:07] <Pendleton> It might have been a trick of the light.
  1116.
1117. [22:07] <Pendleton> Whoever they were, they didn't want us to recognise them.
  1118.
1119. [22:08] <Kraaxek> "Anything at all ish better than naught. Size, good shir? Height? Race?"
  1120.
1121. [22:09] <Pendleton> Average height, if they were human; short, if they were an elf. I didn't see anything under the cloak... they could've been a really sneaky orc for all I saw.
  1122.
1123. [22:09] <Pendleton> Two legs, two arms, I think. Wish that narrowed it down...
  1124.
  1125. [22:09] <Pendleton> Definitely not a dwarf or a halfling.
  1126.
1127. [22:09] * Jett nervously looks at her haversack again, then looks back.
  1128.
1129. [22:10] <Kraaxek> "From what I've sheen, shir, you'd be shurprished what you can do with that."
  1130.
1131. [22:10] <Pendleton> I'm sorry, I really am, but... you can't really think clearly when something like that happens, you know.
  1132.
1133. [22:10] * Kraaxek rests his hand comfortingly on his calf.
  1134.
1135. [22:11] <Kraaxek> "You've done more than many would have; be proud."
  1136.
  1137. [22:11] <Pendleton> T-Thank you, I suppose.
  1138.
1139. [22:12] <Pendleton> Oh, and, er, not to be crass, but... have you seen my ledger? I was, ah, out looking for it last night, when I found...
  1140.
1141. [22:12] * Pendleton tilts his head towards the pool of blood and pales
  1142.
1143. [22:12] <Kraaxek> "You're mosht welcome. Ahh, ohh, yesh... I believe my asshoshiatesh shtill have your tome? In the revelry, we must have forgotten."
  1144.
1145. [22:12] <Pendleton> Ah, yes, of course. I forgot myself, you see, so...
  1146.
  1147. [22:12] <Jett> Ah yes.
  1148.
1149. [22:13] * Jett reaches into her haversack, and pulls out the ledger
  1150.
1151. [22:13] * Kraaxek turns around to Jett.
  1152.
1153. [22:13] <Jett> I appologise for not returning it earlier. Too excited you see.
  1154.
1155. [22:13] * Jett hands the book to Pendleton
  1156.
1157. [22:13] <Pendleton> Ah, yes, thank you very much.
  1158.
1159. [22:14] * Pendleton mutters an Elvish word and begins looking over the book, muttering to himself.
  1160.
1161. [22:17] * Jett turns to the rest.
  1162.
  1163. [22:17] <Jett> So
  1164.
1165. [22:17] * Kraaxek gives Pendleton his space.
  1166.
1167. [22:17] <Jett> What are we going to do about this?
  1168.
  1169. [22:17] * Leah_Howland searches the area a little
  1170.
  1171. [22:17] <Jett> Hmm...
  1172.
  1173. [22:17] * Jett searches as well
  1174.
  1175. [22:17] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+4 search the area a little
  1176.
  1177. [22:17] <dice_god> Leah_Howland, search the area a little: 16 [1d20=12]
  1178.
  1179. [22:18] <Jett> 1d20+13 Search
  1180.
  1181. [22:18] <dice_god> Jett, Search: 25 [1d20=12]
  1182.
1183. [22:18] * Kraaxek informs Leah and Val of what Pendleton saw of the assassin.
  1184.
  1185. [22:18] <Leah_Howland> Facinating
  1186.
1187. [22:19] <Pendleton> Jett: are you searching a specific area, or the room in general?
  1188.
1189. [22:19] * Jett is searching the crime scene
  1190.
1191. [22:20] * Kraaxek thinks out loud while the group looks for clues.
  1192.
1193. [22:20] * Jett also now seems to have deep golden hair, though it is unsure when it became that color.
  1194.
1195. [22:21] <Kraaxek> "We know the crime has happened in the lasht eight hoursh. Plenty of time to be far away by now, if they'd have wanted."
  1196.
1197. [22:21] <Pendleton> Jett finds a scrap of dark silk pinned underneath a heavy stone chair.
  1198.
1199. [22:22] <Kraaxek> "The killer may look common enough to passh unnoticshed."
  1200.
1201. [22:22] * Jett picks it up and examines it
  1202.
1203. [22:23] <Kraaxek> "Perhapsh one who would have benefitted from a continuashion of the war?"
  1204.
1205. [22:23] <Jett> I see no other reason at present for this murder.
  1206.
  1207. [22:23] <Kraaxek> "But not a dwarf, hmm..."
  1208.
1209. [22:24] <Valtteri> About average for a human he said, right?
  1210.
1211. [22:24] * Kraaxek stares at the crime scene. He's never been good at looking for physical clues. But magical...
  1212.
1213. [22:24] * You are now known as DM
  1214.
1215. [22:24] * Kraaxek casts Detect Magic, and concentrates for several rounds.
  1216.
1217. [22:26] <DM> You sense a moderate aura of magic. Roll Spellcraft to see what it is.
  1218.
  1219. [22:27] <Kraaxek> 1d20+5 Spellcraft check (What is that...?)
  1220.
  1221. [22:27] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Spellcraft check (What is that...?): 16 [1d20=11]
  1222.
  1223. [22:28] <DM> You sense it is a moderate-level transmutation spell.
  1224.
1225. [22:29] <DM> It appears to be coming from the scrap of cloak.
  1226.
1227. [22:29] * Kraaxek looks at the scrap in Jett's hand.
  1228.
  1229. [22:29] <Kraaxek> "Shir Jett, that shcrap..."
  1230.
  1231. [22:30] <Jett> Yes? What about it?
  1232.
1233. [22:30] * Leah_Howland has quit IRC (Software caused connection abort)
  1234.
  1235. [22:33] * Leah_Howland (Leah_Howla@rox-1B8A3425.rovernet.mtu.edu) has joined #dandd
  1236.
1237. [22:34] <Kraaxek> "I'm detecting a magical aura emanating from it. Shome short ofโ€ฆ transhmutashion? And nothing to be shcoffed at either."
  1238.
1239. [22:35] <Jett> Hmm... really? Here, you can have a closer look at it.
  1240.
1241. [22:35] * Jett hands the scrap to Kraaxek
  1242.
  1243. [22:35] * Kraaxek graciously takes it. He's helping!
  1244.
1245. [22:38] * Jett proceeds to search the rest of the room
  1246.
1247. [22:38] * Kraaxek continues to examine it, both magically and physically, but he's usually the kind of guy that gets other people to do fine detail work for him.
  1248.
1249. [22:38] <DM> Jett roll search. Any specific area, specify with the roll.
  1250.

  1254.
1255. [22:40] * Kraaxek walks over to Leah, and has his Unseen Servant tap her on the shoulder.
  1256.
1257. [22:40] <DM> You find nothing of note.
  1258.
  1259. [22:40] <Kraaxek> "Madam Leah."
  1260.
  1261. [22:40] <Leah_Howland> Yes?
  1262.
  1263. [22:40] * Kraaxek presents the scrap.
  1264.
1265. [22:41] <Leah_Howland> What would you like me to do with this?
  1266.
1267. [22:41] <Kraaxek> "I've found thish at the shcene. I've detected a magical transhmutashion upon it, and not a shmall one either."
  1268.
  1269. [22:41] <Kraaxek> "Your asshesshment?"
  1270.
  1271. [22:43] <Leah_Howland> 1d20+12 Spellcraft this silly fragment
  1272.

  1287. [22:49] <dice_god> Jett, Failure is bitter: 10 [1d20=10]
  1288.
1289. [22:49] <DM> Jett finds nothing at the main entrance.
  1290.
  1291. [22:51] <Leah_Howland> I can't discern anything from it, sorry
  1292.
1293. [22:52] <Kraaxek> "Are you shertain? We may not have any other leadsh. How thorough do you feel you were?"
  1294.
1295. [22:53] * Kraaxek takes the cloak and looks it over again. Dark silk. Not very big.
  1296.
1297. [22:54] <Kraaxek> 1d20+9 Bardic Knowledge check (This fabric feels familiar...)
  1298.
1299. [22:54] <dice_god> Kraaxek, Bardic Knowledge check (This fabric feels familiar...): 15 [1d20=6]
  1300.
  1301. [22:54] <DM> Nope.
  1302.
1303. [22:55] <Valtteri> I have some experience with goods like these, let me check
  1304.
1305. [22:56] * Valtteri pulls outs his appraisal glasses
  1306.
  1307. [22:56] <Valtteri> 1d20+16
  1308.
  1309. [22:56] <dice_god> Valtteri, 1d20+16: 36 [1d20=20]

  1319. [22:59] <DM> The fabric is a high-grade processed spider silk.
  1320.
1321. [23:02] <Valtteri> Hmm, its very fine silk. Spider silk in fact.
  1322.
  1323. [23:02] * Kraaxek raises his eyebrows.
  1324.
  1325. [23:02] <Kraaxek> "Shpider?! Indeed..."
  1326.
  1327. [23:04] <Kraaxek> "Couldn't just pick THAT up anywhere."
  1328.
1329. [23:05] * Kraaxek begins pacing. He's not really used to solving mysteries. Mysteries can't be talked to to fix them.
  1330.
1331. [23:08] <DM> The duke is still dealing with the remaining dwarven emissaries; they seem to be united in their anger at the assassin.
  1332.
1333. [23:10] <DM> Pendleton seems to be paging quickly through the ledger, still muttering to himself and occasionally smiling. Strange man, Pendleton.
  1334.
1335. [23:11] * Kraaxek reconsiders getting a word in about the peace treaty. Clearly the angry pile of dwarfs is the answer to that question.
  1336.
1337. [23:14] * Jett suddenly realizes something in that swirling vortex of her memory
  1338.
  1339. [23:14] <Jett> OH CRAP!

  1344.
  1345. [23:14] * Kraaxek hears an exclamation!
  1346.
1347. [23:15] <Jett> We never turned in that thief! Pendleton dragged us off!
  1348.
1349. [23:15] <Jett> And he was wearing a dark colored coat!
  1350.
1351. [23:15] * Kraaxek freezes as his eyes start the lose focus.
  1352.
  1353. [23:15] <Kraaxek> [*start to]
  1354.
  1355. [23:16] <Kraaxek> "I am grabbing my gear. NOW."
  1356.
1357. [23:16] * Jett rushes out the door, kukri's ablaze
  1358.
1359. [23:17] <Kraaxek> "Pendleton! Lord Pendleton! My companionsh never turned in the thief of your ledger!"
  1360.
1361. [23:17] * You are now known as Pendleton
  1362.
  1363. [23:18] <Pendleton> I thought he escaped...?

  1366.
  1367. [23:18] <dice_god> Pendleton, 1d20-2: 13 [1d20=15]
  1368.
  1369. [23:18] * Pendleton shakes his head
  1370.
1371. [23:18] <Pendleton> No, no, you had him... but he had to have gotten away?
  1372.
  1373. [23:18] <Pendleton> I don't understand...
  1374.
1375. [23:19] <Kraaxek> "It doesn't matter; his appearanshe matchesh what we know of the asshasshin, and he wash involved from the shart."
  1376.
1377. [23:19] <Kraaxek> "He ish now our chief shushpect. We must begin a sherch for him at oncshe!"
  1378.
1379. [23:20] <Pendleton> Excellent. I just hope I can be of service... here, take this.
  1380.
1381. [23:20] * Pendleton hands Kraaxek a signet ring from his pocket.
  1382.
1383. [23:20] <Kraaxek> "I can provide a physhical deshcripshion of the thief. Hmm?"
  1384.
1385. [23:21] <Pendleton> I'm well, pretty well known among the city's scholars and archivists. This should let them know you've helped me, and you're helping the Duke.
  1386.
1387. [23:22] <Pendleton> Lord Athel's death makes me think, well, obviously, they're targeting the negotiations. They'd have to have done some research first; maybe someone saw him.
  1388.
1389. [23:22] * Kraaxek bows quickly; there's always time for formalities!
  1390.
1391. [23:22] <Pendleton> If there's anything else I can do to help, please, come let me know. I want to see this murderer in chains as much as any of us.
  1392.
1393. [23:23] * You are now known as DM
  1394.
1395. [23:23] <DM> Oh, and Jett, meet me in #split1.
  1396.
  1397. [23:24] * Leah_Howland follows behind Kraaxek
  1398.
1399. [23:24] * Valtteri has quit IRC (Software caused connection abort)
  1400.
1401. [23:24] <Kraaxek> "I thank you thricshe, Lord Pendleton. Now, we musht shtart the shearch. The local guard musht be alerted and informed of the theif's appearanshe."
  1402.
1403. [23:25] * You are now known as Pendleton

  1407. [23:25] <Pendleton> 1d20-2
  1408.
  1409. [23:25] <dice_god> Pendleton, 1d20-2: 11 [1d20=13]

1413. [23:28] * You are now known as Unknown
  1414.
1415. [23:28] <Kraaxek> "The captain of the guard. I should shpeak with him. Could you point me in his direcshion, sir?"
  1416.
  1417. [23:29] <Kraaxek> [*shir]
  1418.
1419. [23:29] * You are now known as DM
  1420.
1421. [23:30] <DM> Pendleton sends you to an office elsewhere in the palace, where a surly-faced man with a large mustache and equally large jowls sits hunched over a desk.
  1422.
  1423. [23:33] * Zanian (Artillery@rox-C29F1C52.dhcp.mrqt.mi.charter.com) has joined #dandd
  1424.
1425. [23:34] * Kraaxek cannot even hope to see over the desk.
  1426.
1427. [23:34] * Kraaxek just stands to its side instead.
  1428.
  1429. [23:34] <Kraaxek> "Oh captain, my captain!"

  1438.
1439. [23:36] * Kraaxek proffers the Duke's signet ring, though he can't help but hold back a smile. The man remembers him!
  1440.
1441. [23:36] <CommanderFergus> What might you be wanting with me, then? Very busy day in the guard.
  1442.
1443. [23:36] <Kraaxek> "I represhent Duke Granfell with urgent newsh! We have a shushpect in lasht night'sh murder!"
  1444.
  1445. [23:37] <CommanderFergus> Really?! Spectahculah news!
  1446.
1447. [23:37] * CommanderFergus clears his throat again, even louder this time
  1448.
  1449. [23:37] <CommanderFergus> Who is it, then?!
  1450.
1451. [23:37] * Kraaxek relates the physical description of the thief from yesterday, and how he was involved in the theft of the most peculiar ledger.
  1452.
1453. [23:38] * Kraaxek stresses the importance of the thief wearing a dark spider-silk cloak that is highly magical.
  1454.
1455. [23:41] <CommanderFergus> Hm... can't say this is ahltogether very useful, but it's certainly more useful than "an ahsahssin" with no ahsociated description.
  1456.
1457. [23:42] * You are now known as DM
  1458.
1459. [23:42] <DM> At this time, Jett returns to the palace.
  1460.
1461. [23:42] <Kraaxek> "One of our companionss ish shcouting ahead to that very shame alleyway. Aid may be of great ushe to him. We'll be joining him shortly."
  1462.
1463. [23:42] * Jett wanders through to the great hall
  1464.

  1466.
1467. [23:45] <CommanderFergus> Thank you very much, sah. I shahl have my men put out the watch immediahtely.

  1480.
1481. [23:49] * Kraaxek returns to the great hall; seems like a good meeting place for the time being.
  1482.
  1483. [23:49] <Kraaxek> "Shir Jett! You return!"
  1484.
  1485. [23:50] * Kraaxek scampers over.
  1486.
  1487. [23:50] <Jett> Ah, hello Kraaxek
  1488.
  1489. [23:50] <Kraaxek> "Any luck?"
  1490.
1491. [23:51] <Jett> I'm afraid not. I searched high and low in that alley and found squat.
  1492.
  1493. [23:51] * Leah_Howland wanders over
  1494.
1495. [23:52] <Leah_Howland> We aren't much closer than where we started....... are we?
  1496.
  1497. [23:52] <Jett> Pretty much...
  1498.
1499. [23:53] <Kraaxek> "Loshe not your heart, friendsh! We have the appearanshe of the thief, and the Duke's guardsh to shearch!"
  1500.
1501. [23:53] <Kraaxek> "Shomething is sho much closher than nothing!"
  1502.
1503. [23:53] <Jett> That's good. I just wish we knew where to start looking.
  1504.
1505. [23:56] <Jett> I mean, there was absolutely nothing in that alley. There was no thief, no clue to where the thief was, or any struggle that even took place there. Honestly, if he was there, he got out of dodge fast.
  1506.
1507. [00:01] <Kraaxek> "Sho he knowsh we know, perhapsh..."
  1508.
1509. [00:02] * Kraaxek slams his cane on the ground angrily.
  1510.
1511. [00:02] <Kraaxek> "And to think we were sho foolish to let him go!"
  1512.
  1513. [00:03] <Jett> 1d20+1 Will Save
  1514.
  1515. [00:03] <dice_god> Jett, Will Save: 9 [1d20=8]
  1516.
1517. [00:07] <DM> Now then, to draw the session to a close. After the death of the dwarf lord Athel Osalmat, you have been tasked by the Duke of Whiteglen to find the murderer and bring him to justice.
  1518.
1519. [00:08] <DM> Your only clue was a thief you struggled with in an alley less than a day before the murder; searching the alley showed no signs of him, and though the city guard is putting out posters you fear the trail may have gone cold.
  1520.
1521. [00:10] <DM> The thief encountered you after the theft of the Lord Treasurer's ledger, an enchanted book that requires a special command word to be read, and contains information on the financial state of the duke's household.
  1522.
1523. [00:10] <DM> Next time, on IRC&D: will you guys learn to read between these lines?
