  27. >Blitzo growled, rolling the cigarette between his fingers
  28. >God damn it, Moxxie!
  29. >how did the little slut manage to become such a fucking pervert, he'll never know...
  30. >...
  31. >...or rather, the OPPOSITE of a pervert
  32.
  33. >if he were to be honest, he actually enjoyed seeing their cutesy private life, ESPECIALLY because the marksman tried to keep it so private!
  34. >"The Forbidden Fruit", and all that
  35. >nowadays, though?
  36. >they were unbearable
  37. >really disruptive
  38. >he almost wanted to yell "GET A ROOM!", but he was certain Moxxie would just reply "We ARE in a room!" and just go back to smooching
  39. >that's what he would've done
  40.
  41. >sighing, he took a not another long drag, and tossed the butt aside
  42. >exhaling the smoke, hand in his pockets, he glanced up at the building
  43. >he REALLY didn't want to get back in there
  44.
  45. >and that was, when it hit him:
  46. >the sound of sobbing
  47.
  48. >it was the quiet sort, that would drew people around the corner, only to be whacked by a big burly fuck holding a cosh the size of a tree trunk
  49. >however, as he turned the corner, he only found a woman
  50. >long, white hair, wide hips, keyhole sweater and boots
  51. >nothing much else, by the looks of it
  52. >and she looked EXHAUSTED
  53.
  54. >taking a few deep breaths, she called out
  55. >"MORTYYYYY! WHERE ARE YOU, SWEETIE?!"
  56. >and listened
  57. >nothing
  58. >with a deep, hiccuping sigh, she began to walk...
  59. >...only to bump into Blitzo
  60. >alerted, she looked up, startling the imp
  61. >she'd been crying a lot
  62.
  63. >"Something wrong, Miss?"
  64. >the impette sniffed
  65. >"I lost my baby."
  66. >"Oh!"
  67. >he raised an eyebrow
  68. >"...How did you managed THAT?"
  69. >she wiped away her tears
  70. >"I was taking him out for a nice stroll, when a Hellhound ran up to us, and kicked him out of my hands, stroller and everything!"
  71. >she shuddered, trying not to break down
  72. >"SECOND time it happened!"
  73. -
  74. >Blitzo frowned
  75. >"What did this Hellhound look like?"
  76. >she sniffed again, taking out a tissue
  77. >"...Gray fur, ratty clothes, red eyes... Like she had an infection, or something... I don't get it! I've done nothing! She just ran up to me out of nowhere, snarling, and kicked the stroller into the air right in front of me!"
  78.
  79. >as the gears kicked into motion in his head, the imp's eyes widened
  80. >"Right..." he muttered "Did you see where it land?"
  81. >"Somewhere around block." she replied "I've been searching for it since this morning..."
  82.
  83. >"This morning..." he thought, and shook his head
  84. >"Lemme help."
  85. >she looked at him like he just offered a suitcase full of cash
  86. >"...Really?" she asked, hopeful, before retreating "I mean, I wouldn't want to hold you up if you have other things to do, it's my problem, and--"
  87. >but she felt his sharp finger on her lips
  88. >"It's no bother." he replied "Now... Whereabout did you see it, exactly?"
  89.
  90.
  91. >it didn't took him all that long to find it - the stroller was perched precariously atop a pile of garbage at the nearby dumb
  92. >he was screaming something awful, and, by the sound of it, had been doing it for a good hour
  93. >"How the fuck did she didn't hear you?" Blitzo asked, rhetorically, as he climbed the pile "You sound like a grown-ass man!"
  94. >several tumbles down the jagged scrap, and one burial under garbage later, he pushed the somewhat dented stroller out of the dump
  95. >Lil' Morty had stopped crying, and just stared at him, with big, sad eyes
  96. >"Boy, you're not a pretty one..." the older imp exhaled "But at least you're cute..."
  97.
  98. >her eyes widened when she saw him, limping across the street with the wobbly stroller, the telltale horns of her baby poking through the canopy
  99. >to her, he looked like he just clambered out of a warzone
  100. >with all the heroism that it implies
  101. >"H-Here's your baby..." he muttered, before being abruptly cut off, as she wordlessly wrapped herself around him
  102. -
  103. >frozen still, he felt her arms envelop his torso, and her chin coming to rest in the nook of his neck
  104. >he could FEEL her sigh of relief, and the heat of her body through the fabric
  105. >good thing, though, as it reminded him to breathe
  106. >she let go, after a bit, but her hand suddenly slipped up to his head
  107. >grabbing his cheeks from either side, she drew him in, planting kiss after kiss, on his too cheeks, his forehead, his snout, and finally, on his mouth
  108. >slightly breathless, she staggered back, sighing happily
  109. >looking up, her mouth formed a silent "oh", and she giggled at the sight of the black lipstick-covered Blitzo
  110. >soon enough, she drew out a fresh kerchief, and began to wipe him down - at which point, he came to as well
  111. >"D-Don't bother!" he blurted out grabbing her hand "I can manage! You-You take care of that baby!"
  112. >she just stared at him
  113. >"M-Maybe try to go a different route? I'll try to take care of... That Hellhound."
  114. >she still just stared, as a blush spread on her cheeks
  115. >wondering what was up, he looked down, and his eyes nearly popped out
  116.
  117. >in an effort to stop her ministrations, he ended up holding her hand
  118.
  119. >he withdrew his hand like she was on fire, and, all at once, the spell broke, causing her to retreat as well, both fidgeting with embarrassment
  120. >"W-Well, anyway..." he began "Where was your husband? Why wasn't he helping?!"
  121.
  122. >all at once, the impette's body seemed to slump
  123. >"He's gone." she replied "Last purge took him."
  124. >"Oh..."
  125. >Blitzo's tail slumped to the ground
  126. >"I... See, I'm... Sorry to hear... Wait."
  127. >he looked up
  128. >"So... How did you manage without him? You got a job or--?"
  129. >but he cut off, seeing her turn away, and pull her sweater lower on her legs
  130. >a different sort of blush spread on her face
  131. >one of shame
  132. >"I... Work during the night..:" she muttered
  133. >no more needed to be said
  134. -
  135. >hurriedly, he dug through his coat, producing a small scrap of paper
  136. >"Here's my number." he said, offering it to her
  137. >again, she just had her eyes dance between it and his own
  138. >he felt like he could get lost in those
  139. >"J-Just call me if you need some help." he stuttered "I'm available most mornings and evenings."
  140.
  141. >she just stared
  142. >and then...
  143. >...she smiled
  144. >he felt like he was burning up, as her hand carefully took the card from him, chastely avoiding his touch
  145.
  146.
  147. >on his way up the stairs, his brain was working overtime
  148. >all these ideas, all these new thoughts and emotions...!
  149. >he felt energized
  150. >empowered
  151. >and suddenly, a thought stuck
  152. >it all clicked
  153.
  154.
  155. >he entered the room with a broad smile
  156. >"Welcome back, everyone! Hope you enjoyed the break!" he said, grandly
  157. >"Where the fuck where you?!" Loona snapped angrily, causing him to pause "You've been gone for hours! I messaged you several times! Did you lost your phone, or some shit?!"
  158. >"I'm fine, Loona." he replied "And, I'm back, so you can stop worrying."
  159. >she could only gape at this
  160. >"Now, have I missed any important calls?"
  161. >"...No." she said, upset
  162. >now HE wasn't reacting to her properly, either!
  163. >"Well, good! I have some important news!" and he turned to the others
  164.
  165. >"As you've all noticed..." he began "Hell's going through a number of changes, thanks to you-know-who..."
  166. >he still didn't dare to call her by her name
  167. >"...So, I figured that it'll be in the company's best interest to stay ahead of the curve!"
  168. >"What do you mean?" Millie asked
  169. >"Glad you asked." he replied with a smile "Starting from today, the middle letter of our acronym will no longer stand for "Murder", but rather, for "Mortal". And don't worry, murder will still be a part of our services. However, I think our connection to the mortal realm can be used for something better!"
  170. >"What sort of something?" Moxxie asked, deciding to play along - for once, their boss seemed to be actually onto something
  171. -
  172. >"Well, as you could guess from the change of acronym, we'll be offering broader services to Sinners. Not just to settle scores, or take out wrongdoers, but also, allowing them to reconnect with their lost ones. Deliver messages from the grave, or solve unfinished business, that sort of thing..."
  173. >"Just one question about that." Moxxie began, raising his hand "Will we be bringing THEM back to the surface? Because that may brake some pretty fundamental laws, and get us into trouble."
  174. >"...Excellent observation, Moxxie!" the older imp replied, causing the former musician to beam "I'll have to contact Stolas about it... Now, if only he'd pick it up..."
  175.
  176.
  177. >Prince Stolas stared at the screen
  178. >another missed call
  179.
  180. >part of him was overjoyed that the imp would call him, instead of the other way around
  181. >but another part of him just felt sad
  182. >his wife rested in his other arm, and their bed was covered in feathers
  183. >all the self-isolation, all the worry over the young Magne's debauchery, and all the preparation had only managed to draw them closer, rather than push them apart, like he feared
  184. >he couldn't complain
  185. >he just had the best sex with his wife he ever had, and, in a couple of hours, he'll be up and about, preparing a home-cooked meal for Octavia
  186. >with a sigh, he put the phone down
  187.
  188. >the Princess had changed them, all of them, as it seemed
  189. >but he wouldn't have it any other way
