  1. Bakumatsu Kourinden Oni (幕末降臨伝ONI)
  2. Walkthrough / Guide
  3.
  4. Platform: Snes / SFC
  5. Released: 02.02.1996
  6.
  7. Based on: NTSC-J-version (SHVC-A2OJ-JPN)
  8.
  9.
  10.
  11. - Stats:
  12. HP (Tairyoku)
  13. MP (Maryoku)
  14. SP (Reiryoku)
  15. Str: Base ATP (Kougekiryoku)
  16. Con: Base DFP (Bougyoryoku)
  17. Agi: Base Spd (Binsokuryoku)
  18. Int: Base Mag (Seishinryoku)
  19.
  20. - The base damage calculation for physical attacks is ATP - DFP. After
  21. that, we have two random variables. The first one is a multiplier that
  22. increases damage at most by about 12%. The second one seems to be a simple
  23. +0~3. Criticals deal double damage (takes effect before the second random
  24. variable) and defending cuts damage by half (enemies in this game like to
  25. defend rather often).
  26. - Damage for spells is base + Mag*4. The base values are listed in the
  27. misc. file. Your magic defense is Mag*4. This value is simply subtracted
  28. from received spell damage. Enemies don't have an MDF value, but they may
  29. be resistant (25% damage) or immune to magic.
  30. - Elements work in a simple way. There are 6 elements in three opposing pairs:
  31. Fire (F) <> Water (W), Lightning/Wind (T) <> Earth (E), Light (L) <> Dark (D).
  32. Enemies can have a certain elemental affinity, in which case their physical
  33. attack uses this element, they are immune to or absorb their own element,
  34. and take double damage from attacks that have the opposing element.
  35. - There are three different types of special attacks:
  36. × Houjutsu (essentially magic), learned by leveling up.
  37. × Kenjutsu, learned by leveling up the ultimate weapons.
  38. × Kamioroshi (summon spells), obtained through various tasks. Some can
  39. be taught to any character, while others are character-specific.
  40. - Certain buttons act as shortcuts during battle:
  41. Y | Jutsu
  42. X | Item (Dougu)
  43. B | Attack (Kougeki)
  44. L | Defend (Bougyo)
  45. R | Flee (Tousou)
  46. - When casting a spell, press right (in the menu) or R/Up (during battle)
  47. to target all. Multi-targeting divides potency by the number of targets.
  48. - Battles consist of rounds, where turn order is defined by Speed. Subjects
  49. with higher Speed act before those with lower Speed. You don't choose a
  50. command until it's time for the character to act.
  51. - Fleeing from battle only applies to a single character at a time.
  52.
  53. - Status ailments:
  54. Doku (Poison) | Lose 12,5% mHP each turn
  55. Chinmoku (Silence) | Unable to use magic
  56. Konran (Confuse) | Attack allies
  57. Nemuri (Sleep) | Unable to act
  58. Mahi (Paralysis) | Unable to act
  59. Ningyou (Doll) |
  60.
  61. - Only humanoid(ish) enemies drop money.
  62. - Dead characters are automatically revived with 1 HP after battle.
  63. - When you level up, any leftover Exp is lost. Level up gains are
  64. randomized to an extent. Exp is not divided.
  65. - When you're loaded into an area with random encounters, a number is
  66. rolled between 10-29 and stored in 00DE. It drops by one each step, and
  67. once it reaches 0, you have a chance of triggering a battle each step.
  68. - Enemies don't appear in fixed formations, with the exception of large
  69. enemies, who appear solo.
  70. - Many areas are arbitrarily deemed off-limits until you've reached a
  71. certain point in the game.
  72. - The game features a Karma system, where certain actions increase or
  73. decrease your Karma rating. The game doesn't show the actual figure,
  74. just a title. Reaching max Karma can be tricky, as there's a finite
  75. amount of Karma you can gain, but there's some room for error.
  76. - The potency of some stat-boost items is affected by your Karma.
  77.
  78. HP,MP|SP
  79. Futsuu | 20 10
  80. Ii Hito | 24 12
  81. Zennin | 28 14
  82. Oerai | 32 16
  83. Odeekan | 36 18
  84. Sennin | 40 20
  85. Kamisama | 44 22
  86.
  87. - If your Karma title is Odeekansama or above, item drop rate is increased.
  88. - If your Karma title is Senninsama or above, you gain 50% more gold
  89. from enemies, and summon spells gain a small damage boost (maybe a 10%
  90. increase in base power. Either way, not significant).
  91. - If / When the music gets too annoying, just go with the mute button.
  92. That's what I always do.
  93. - The play time counter pauses while you're in the menu, so it's not
  94. going to be accurate.
  95. - If a poisoned enemy runs away, the visual effect of the poison will
  96. still remain, even showing poison damage.
  97. - After some of the events in Shikoku, if you use an item in the small
  98. dock areas west of Okayama, north of Umibe no Mura, or north of Beppu,
  99. the game will crash.

  153. in most cases) should you choose to pick one up.
  154. - Press Start in the menu to access the Config menu. You can change
  155. the text scrolling speed (set it to fast), window colors and the way
  156. you input commands during battle.
  157. - You can press Select to review your current objective, but unless you
  158. know a little Japanese, it won't really help you. Then again, you have
  159. this guide, so...
  160. - Go grab the chest in the little warehouse then return to your mother.
  161. - Afterwards, you can get Naozane (behind a tree) to join you as an NPC
  162. ally. NPC characters that join you will occasionally appear to help you
  163. in battle. At most, you can have 8 NPCs active at any given time. Press
  164. Y in the menu to enter the NPC menu where you can activate NPCs or set
  165. them on standby.
  166. - Make sure you save your game by the Jizou statue before heading out.
  167. Dying means restarting from the last save.
  168. - You can rest at your place by talking to your mother.
  169. - Note that, in most occasions, the d-pad has to be on neutral in order
  170. for A and B input to register.
  171. - Once you're prepared, head to the mountain northwest.

  185. - 120 HP, 2 MP, 22 ATP, 7 DFP, 18 Agi, 14 Int, 25 Exp, 160 G
  186. - Aside from his normal attack, he's got a water spell (4*Int dmg, 1 MP)
  187. and a DFP Up skill, the former of which he can only use twice.

  206. PC: Juurouta Lv5 Waraji (Unique)
  207.
  208. - An old man at the inn asks for a Yakusou (Karma +2).
  209. - Talk to Juurouta. After she joins, it's possible to cross the bridge
  210. west to reach Kyou. There's some nice gear there, so go pick something
  211. up if you have the money. Either way, your next official destination
  212. is the mountain east.

  216.
  217. Items:
  218. Yakusou Ganyaku
  219. Kyahan Seisui
  220.
  221. - Good place to get money. The Edo region south from here is even better,
  222. but you should buy at least one Zantetsuken before going there.
  223. - If you trigger an encounter in a specific spot outside, the graphics
  224. will glitch out a bit, but it'll go back to normal if you leave.
  225. - Check the wall where the demon entered to get inside. This is the only
  226. time you get to explore the cave. It's only two areas. After the events,
  227. it's time to head to Kyou.

  248. - This is the best gear you can buy in quite a while, so try to get it
  249. as soon as possible. Fully equipping both Yamatomaru and Juurouta will
  250. cost 3740 G.
  251. - You can pass up on the Hozutsu for now, but you'll eventually need
  252. one for an NPC. Get one Shunmin no Kona.
  253. - Head to the shinsengumi headquarters (the building with four guys
  254. blocking the entrance). After the event, you need to talk to the people
  255. inside (they'll temporarily join as NPCs) and fight a demon somewhere
  256. in town. You have to do them one at a time. Some of them are immune to
  257. physicals, so you need to use your spells. All but two of the NPCs are
  258. in the kitchen area, as seen below. 5 is the lone one at the end of the

  304. - This is the mountain just south of Izumo. As soon as you enter, Natsume
  305. will join the party.
  306. - You'll find an entrance to a cave, but you can't enter. After checking
  307. it, a new bridge will appear east of Toyama, allowing you to reach northern
  308. Honshuu. You can check it out if you want, but there's really nothing of

  369. - You can find Goemon in the inn.
  370. - The Kujaku no Hane allows you to warp to any town you've previously
  371. visited. At Lv25, Juurouta learns a spell that has the same effect.
  372. - Talk to the man hiding behind one of the lamps on the northern side
  373. of town, then check the lamp closest to the southwest entrance. Offer
  374. the following five items to it, and you'll obtain your first summon

  418.
  419. - Take the Seika to the monk, and you'll temporarily gain access to the
  420. warehouse and the cave within (step on where the seal was to enter the
  421. cave). Opening the chests in the warehouse results in Karma loss.
  422. - At the end, you'll receive the Oodenta, Juurouta's ultimate weapon.
  423. The ultimate weapons are weapons that can be leveled up and very much
  424. require you to do so in order for them to live up to their name. Leveling
  425. them up also allows you to learn Kenjutsu. Having one of these weapons
  426. equipped halves the amount of Exp the character gains, although the weapon
  427. still gains the full amount.
  428. - Kenjutsu consumes SP. You recover 1 SP per step. There are also items
  429. that recover SP, but you won't be able to buy them until late in the game.
  430. - Return the key to the monk before leaving the mountain or you'll lose
  431. a fair bit of Karma. Returning it increases your Karma a little.
  432. If you leave with the key, you can still go back to return it, and
  433. (probably) gain the same amount of Karma as when you return it without
  434. leaving, but you'll still end up with Karma lost.

1432. - The game says that Ihika b's healing is stronger than Sora's (and the
1433. visual effects would suggest that as well), but this isn't actually the
1434. case. It's possible this is another small error, and it was supposed to
