58. A race of non-corporeal, parasitic aliens who go from planet to planet looking for hosts have come to Earth and basically taken over the human race. It's believed that, once inside a body, all memories of the host human are gone. Some few free humans remain hidden from them, forming a resistance group. When an alien Seeker captures a girl named Melanie and puts a Wanderer in her body, she hopes to find out where the remaining humans are gathered, but Melanie, a strong fighter able to converse with the alien in her commandeered body, convinces the Wanderer to say nothing. Disappointed by the lack of progress (though suspecting an empathy for the human), the Seeker informs the Wanderer that she'll be removed and placed in a new host while she herself will enter Melanie. With human lives at risk, Melanie convinces Wanderer to run away and hide out with the humans, but finding them doesn't mean they'll allow an alien presence among them. Jared (Melanie's boyfriend) wants her dead, but Jeb (Melanie's uncle) wants to wait, and Ian, tasked with guarding her, finds himself siding with Jeb. As Ian begins to fall for Melanie, a strange love triangle develops, with Ian wanting Wanderer (inhabiting Melanie's body), Jared wanting Melanie (imprisoned inside her own body), and no one knowing any way to separate the two without killing both.
 59. When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.
 60. It is more of a romance film than sci-fi. It's got alien invading planet Earth (& its HOST) but the limelight is stolen by love. Not an absolute entertainer, but I rate it 4.7/10 for the innovative plot & music.

Cast is good like the editing is bad. Stephenie Meyer has once again tried hard to bring up the other-worldly stance to the reel and boy, was I amazed? Yes, to a certain extent. But the slow pace of the character driven story induces enough ennui towards the second half to eventually turn you off. And all the kisses will make you more sleepy.

Music is brilliant & some stunts/actions MAY make you enthralled. The idea of the film is inventive & the execution with a message of humanity & love is pretty awesome for this YOLO generation. I, personally enjoyed some parts and hated some parts.

BOTTOM LINE: You may like it or may not. Ways to find out is either wait for the DVD or DTH. Theater viewing may be a tad expensive & time- consuming. And if you are going to watch it for any factor you love, you will be terrified by the idea.

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

Language: No | Sex: No | Mouth-Kiss, Foreplay: Mediocre | Violence: Strong | Gore: Mediocre | Alcohol, Smoking: No | Drugs: Very Mild
 61. Another dawn, another Stephenie Meyer book-to-screen adaptation. But with aliens in the place of vampires and some fast-speed flashy car chases along the way, this high-budget flick does have something else to offer.

Once again audiences are brought back into the world of Meyer, only this time we are placed many years into the future in a dystopian world where aliens have possessed the minds of humanity to build harmony and to perfect our crumbling planet Earth.

Despite the number of typically awkward kissing scenes, the glowing fluorescent eyes, the swanky vehicles, and the touch-and-go pacing; this film isn't actually half bad. I believe the story wants to focus more on the theme of survival, with the rebellion of humanity against the aliens and also for their own protection. We have a number of genuinely captivating scenes including gun combat, and epic car/van/helicopter chase scenes. The film doesn't wave a hand to the Twilight saga, these are two different items.

The Host might appeal to the occasional sci-fi junky with the girlfriend who enjoys the steamy romances, or even vice-versa. I believe this film represents a possible middle-ground between the twi-hards and the other cinema-goers who so solemnly swore against the Twilight franchise. Now we have a Meyer-movie that might have something more to offer.

With a potential sequel to the original book in rumour, what's the chances that this will bleed into another saga? The chances are high, but Saoirse Ronan's performance as Melanie Stryder and her capturer, Wanderer, might just be able to sustain it. (Also with the hope that we will have a reappearance of William Hurt as Jeb. If you find this film hard to watch at any point, try and stick with it solely for his performance.)

A new step forward for the unexpected.

6/10
 62. Watch closely and you might even spy a better film inside, straining to break free.
