- [16:44:04] YeesusIsDaMvp: F1 have always been very close to european fashion
- [16:44:50] YeesusIsDaMvp: now when Rindt died there was a question of safety for the drivers if anything could be done or not
- [16:45:07] YeesusIsDaMvp: however FIA decided that nothing could be done and that drivers had to live with the dangers of driving
- [16:45:39] YeesusIsDaMvp: In the mid 70's a legendary rivalry formed that would eventually be turned into a hollywood movie called "Rush"
- [16:45:46] YeesusIsDaMvp: The rivalry of James Hunt and Niki Lauda
- [16:46:20] YeesusIsDaMvp: the two drivers were so different in style and manner
- [16:46:51] YeesusIsDaMvp: James Hunt was the rich playboy who'd party everyday and always had time for models and his cigarettes
- [16:46:53] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://cdn.snacksports.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/3-James-Hunt-.jpg

- [16:47:08] YeesusIsDaMvp: He was loud and had an ego not seen in the sport before, and on track he was reckless and took major risk to win.
- [16:47:34] YeesusIsDaMvp: In Britain he got the nickname "Hunt the shunt" because he was so reckless that often he'd cause crashes
- [16:47:53] YeesusIsDaMvp: On the other side you had Niki Lauda who was the down to earth technical racing driver who didn’t party and on track he was calm and focused
- [16:48:01] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2d/Lauda_at_1982_Dutch_Grand_Prix.jpg/220px-Lauda_at_1982_Dutch_Grand_Prix.jpg

- [16:48:21] YeesusIsDaMvp: Niki Lauda quickly got the nickname of "the rat" or "king rat"
- [16:48:30] YeesusIsDaMvp: I'm going to ask you guys now if you got any idea
- [16:48:35] YeesusIsDaMvp: why people would call him "the rat"
- [16:48:58] complexities?: Would it happen to be his facial features
- [16:49:05] YeesusIsDaMvp: indeed it would
- [16:49:18] YeesusIsDaMvp: he got the nickname because of his teeth
- [16:49:29] YeesusIsDaMvp: tho he has embraced the nickname
- [16:49:47] YeesusIsDaMvp: in fact I think he'd rather look like that than what he does after this next part I'm about to say
- [16:49:53] YeesusIsDaMvp: The Hunt-Lauda rivalry lasted from 1973-1979. In their early career they had shared a flat and where friends however their differences would clash in the peak of their careers as they both fought for the championship.
- [16:50:16] YeesusIsDaMvp: their rivalry laid ground for one of the most legendary F1 seasons of all time in 1976
- [16:50:58] YeesusIsDaMvp: Lauda had built a lead in the championship and hunt seemed to be out of the running however Lauda crashed at the nurnbergring race in germany and had near fatal injuries
- [16:51:25] YeesusIsDaMvp: the crash scarred him for life as his face was left disfigured
- [16:51:31] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/film/Rush/jameshunt.jpg?imwidth=450
- [16:51:31] |html|<div class="infobox"><a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/film/Rush/jameshunt.jpg?imwidth=450"><img src="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/film/Rush/jameshunt.jpg?imwidth=450" width="400" height="229"/></a></div>
- [16:52:23] YeesusIsDaMvp: Lauda’s injuries only kept him out for two races which allowed hunt to close the lead in the championship that lauda had. The return Lauda made was so fast and miraculous that he was not completely healthy however he didn't want to give up on the championship
- [16:52:38] YeesusIsDaMvp: The season came down to the last race in Japan where Hunt needed 4 more points to overtake lauda.
- [16:52:57] YeesusIsDaMvp: Lauda had to retire in Japan as he had some problems with blinking due to damage from the near fatal crash earlier in the season.
- [16:53:08] YeesusIsDaMvp: Due to the retirement Hunt won the championship by 1 point in what is known as one of the best F1 seasons ever.
- [16:54:00] YeesusIsDaMvp: now this next part of the lecture had me kinda crying when I was writing it because the events around Senna are tragic
- [16:54:21] YeesusIsDaMvp: Ayrton Senna the Brazilian legend that is to this day known as the greatest legend in f1 history
- [16:54:33] Andy30: grats on % dp :o

- [16:54:50] Andy30: oops
- [16:55:14] YeesusIsDaMvp: He won the championship 3 times however his life was cut short in what would be known as F1's darkest hour
- [16:55:26] YeesusIsDaMvp: darkest (weekend) not hour but it's an expression
- [16:55:44] YeesusIsDaMvp: At the 1994 San Marino grand prix one of the darkest race weeks in F1 History. Senna complained about car performance to his engineers during friday practise.
- [16:56:12] YeesusIsDaMvp: during the same day Rubens Barrichello, one of senna’s friends and fellow country men had been in a crash and suffered serious injuries. (he would return to f1 later though and is also a legend)
- [16:56:26] YeesusIsDaMvp: During Saturday Qualifying Austrian rookie Roland Ratzenberger died after his front wing broke while he was going 310 km/h and the car slammed into a concrete wall.
- [16:57:26] YeesusIsDaMvp: After Roland's crash Senna immediately visited the accident scene and medical center. Here he met the FIA Medical Chief Professor Watkins who told a tearful Senna that this race was too dangerous and it would be best to stop racing and go fishing instead.
- [16:57:59] YeesusIsDaMvp: Senna however was a man born to race and said he could not stop racing. He lived for racing and he could not just stop even knowing the dangers
- [16:58:18] YeesusIsDaMvp: Sunday morning race day would be Senna’s last. He used the morning talking to his friend and former rival Alan Prost about recreating the former Grand Prix Drivers association.
- [16:58:40] YeesusIsDaMvp: Senna wanted to improve safety in F1 and he saw the best way was for the FIA to include drivers in decisions instead of people who didn’t race and know the dangers of it.
- [16:59:20] YeesusIsDaMvp: Alan Prost had retired in 1993 and was now a media presenter
- [16:59:30] YeesusIsDaMvp: As the most senior driver in the grid Senna felt that he had to take the lead of the association starting at the monaco grand prix.
- [17:00:19] YeesusIsDaMvp: During the last drivers briefing before the San Marino race at imola concerns were raised about the race and if it was a good idea to even have the race at all as people would risk their life on a track that was not all safe
- [17:00:31] YeesusIsDaMvp: FIA ignored complaints and the race would start anyways
- [17:00:57] YeesusIsDaMvp: Senna started the race in front however their was a stoppage after Pedro Lamy crashed in his lotus and debris flew up into the stand and injured 8 fans and a police officer. (this weekend was not only the darkest for drivers)
- [17:01:14] YeesusIsDaMvp: The safety car used was an opel Vectra and it had driven so slow that tyre pressure had fallen too low in the cars making them more unsafe to drive. Senna pulled alongside it and gestured it to drive faster.
- [17:01:33] YeesusIsDaMvp: When the race was set off again Senna set a high pace however lost control going into Tamburello at 307 km/h and he smashed into the concrete wall at around 233 km/h. Telemetry showed that brakes where applied 2 seconds before the crash.
- [17:01:46] YeesusIsDaMvp: The red flag (race conditions are too dangerous to drive so force race stop) was waved as FIA Medical team had called for immediate airlift and was keeping Senna barely alive.
- [17:02:05] YeesusIsDaMvp: Senna died that evening at the hospital as his injuries was too extensive. Watkins the FIA Medical Chief Professor said that as soon as he had seen Senna after the crash he knew it was over.
- [17:02:41] YeesusIsDaMvp: When the car was investigated an Austrian flag was found which Senna had put their in honor of Ratzenberger who died the day before.
- [17:02:59] YeesusIsDaMvp: Back in his home country of Brazil his death was viewed as a National Tragedy and the government of Brazil instated 3 days of national mourning. Millions came out in Sao Paulo for his funeral
- [17:03:00] (Lionyx notes: I feel like there arent a lot of people interested :/)
- [17:03:05] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DcboSxyXcAAkNiD.jpg
- [17:03:05] |html|<div class="infobox"><a href="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DcboSxyXcAAkNiD.jpg"><img src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DcboSxyXcAAkNiD.jpg" width="400" height="277"/></a></div>
- [17:03:32] YeesusIsDaMvp: Over Three million people attended his funeral to give their favorite Brazilian driver a last salute
- [17:04:09] YeesusIsDaMvp: FIA President at the time Max Mosley decided to not attend Senna’s funeral and instead went to the funeral of Ratzenberger in Austria giving the reason "I went to his funeral because everyone went to Senna's. I thought it was important that somebody went to his."
- [17:04:38] YeesusIsDaMvp: After that race week FIA stepped up their efforts to ensure the security and safety of their drivers and the Drivers Association that Senna wanted was recreated and in many eyes Ratzenberger and Senna’s death became a wake up call that arrived a little too late.
- [17:05:45] YeesusIsDaMvp: Senna life ended in tragedy but his death inspired safety regulations that saved lives in the future so in many race fans eyes it was a sacrifice nobody wanted but that formula 1 needed
- [17:06:23] (warrdd notes: i say let him finish and we will make a guideline for lectures from now on )
- [17:06:35] YeesusIsDaMvp: Now I'm going to talk about the most winning driver ever and even more tragedy because well F1 legends haven't been lucky
- [17:06:41] YeesusIsDaMvp: Now the most winning racer ever in F1 is Michael Schumacher who won an impressive 7 championships.
- [17:06:49] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/78/590x/Michael-Schumacher-health-944757.jpg
- [17:06:49] |html|<div class="infobox"><a href="https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/78/590x/Michael-Schumacher-health-944757.jpg"><img src="https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/78/590x/Michael-Schumacher-health-944757.jpg" width="400" height="237"/></a></div>
- [17:07:04] YeesusIsDaMvp: I grew up on this guy and he was one of my heroes as a kid
- [17:07:22] YeesusIsDaMvp: Every time F1 was on I'd be sitting in front of the tv with a Ferrari hat on cheering him on
- [17:08:10] YeesusIsDaMvp: Schumacher left F1 however the tragedy comes in his personal life as he was in a skiing accident in which we do not know the extent of the damage of due to his family staying very private about it
- [17:08:45] #Lionyx: 💔
- [17:08:46] YeesusIsDaMvp: Recent news however suggest that he’s capable of thinking and expressing emotion and as sad as it sounds it has to be said. He often cries when the family make him look at beautiful landscapes and when he hears his children's voices and his wife.
- [17:09:28] YeesusIsDaMvp: signs suggest Schumacher as I saw him as a kid will never be back but his legacy remains and as long as he can be happy with his family and his family can be happy with him then I'm happy for him
- [17:09:49] YeesusIsDaMvp: now I'm going to focus on the future of F1 and the current drivers and POSITIVE stories YAY
- [17:10:03] YeesusIsDaMvp: Currently in F1 there are two drivers who are at the top battling it out at the top in a rivalry that has similarities to the James Hunt and Niki Lauda one.
- [17:10:27] YeesusIsDaMvp: Lewis Hamilton the british driver for Mercedes is like Hunt a very ego filled and party animal (tho to less extent than hunt) He is seen by many as whiny if he doesn’t get his way in races and often comes off as a sore loser.
- [17:10:32] YeesusIsDaMvp: However there is no doubt that off the track he is overall a nice person, he is just so used to being number 1 that he gets easily frustrated. He has won the championship 4 times and is set to make more records and is one of the most talented drivers the sport has ever had.
- [17:10:52] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/18/Lewis_Hamilton_2016_Malaysia_2.jpg/220px-Lewis_Hamilton_2016_Malaysia_2.jpg

- [17:11:36] YeesusIsDaMvp: he's also the first black f1 champion
- [17:11:42] YeesusIsDaMvp: and also the first black f1 driver ever
- [17:12:14] YeesusIsDaMvp: On the other side we have German driver Sebastian Vettel who after a successful career start at red bull where he won 4 Championships he eventually joined Ferrari. Vettel is like Lauda very much down to earth
- [17:12:24] YeesusIsDaMvp: .link https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/Sebastian_Vettel_2015_Malaysia_podium_2.jpg
- [17:12:24] |html|<div class="infobox"><a href="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/Sebastian_Vettel_2015_Malaysia_podium_2.jpg"><img src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/Sebastian_Vettel_2015_Malaysia_podium_2.jpg" width="200" height="300"/></a></div>
- [17:12:37] YeesusIsDaMvp: Vettel is my current favorite driver
- [17:12:47] YeesusIsDaMvp: Vettel is also set to make more records and him and hamilton still have years left in the sport and they’re already seen as legends of the sport.
- [17:13:03] YeesusIsDaMvp: Currently the future looks bright for F1 and it has never been healthier and is now run by Liberty Media as it was taken over this season. They have changed the look of F1 and have “Americanized it” to make it easier for Americans to digest in order to attract more fans.
- [17:13:13] YeesusIsDaMvp: The racing is still the same however more focus is being put on the broadcasting layout and interviews than before.
- [17:13:34] YeesusIsDaMvp: Formula 1 is very much tragedy and triumph in its essense
- [17:13:57] YeesusIsDaMvp: F1 often lead the way for road cars to change as well
- [17:14:26] YeesusIsDaMvp: the first hybrid cars was F1 cars and eventually hybrid was transferred into road cars as F1 is the top of technological advancement in cars
- [17:14:49] YeesusIsDaMvp: To end the lecture now I leave you with a Daniel Ricciardo Shooey
