THE FIRST LIBRARY OF ASGARDIA

Vision

We will build the world`s first orbital library. Located in space. We start on Earth.

Purpose

Constitution of Asgardia Chapter 2 Article 14.3 (Scientific Resources):
"Asgardia shall accumulate intellectual resources by digitising and storing the wealth of human knowledge in space."

The Body of Knowledge

The library shall foster a body of knowledge that encourages the use of Asgardia`s resources to incorporate Asgardia`s supreme values.
In this spirit, entries in the library shall be categorized according to the two dimensions defined by the Constitution Chapter 2 Article 4 (Asgardia`s Supreme Values) and Chapter 4 (Asgardian Resources).
Additional categories may be introduced as needed, if they do not fall into any existing one. The classification scheme will be documented as a standard and continuously updated.

Organisation

The library could be set up in partnership and collaboration with Civic Asgardia or the Ministry of information and communication.
Librarians and subject matter experts will actively gather and curate information resources around thematic collections, and catalogue incoming information resources provided by Asgardian citizens.
Technical experts will design and implement the technical infrastructure of the library.
The implementation of the roadmap should take place as a project in collaboration with Civic.Asgardia.

Technical Platform

The technical infrastructure should be integrated with and accessible from Asgardia.com website and authentication & authorisation mechanisms.

The design should be modular, lightweight, and distributed, so that future instances of the library can easily be implemented and moved across space, even interplanetary.

It was proposed that files could be text, pdf or similar e-reader defaults.

Roadmap for version 1

- Document first draft of classification scheme as outlined above
- Setup communication infrastructure (mailinglist and productivity tools)
- Populate roster of technical experts, librarians and subject matter experts
- Priorititze thematic areas and start compiling a critical mass of initial information resources
- Analyze requirements to the technical platform
- Sketch technical design
- Implement prototype
- Document and establish process for access to the library
- Document and establish process for upload of information resources, reviewing and indexing by librarians / subject matter experts
- Gather feedback and plan for the next version
